UE5 GDC 2023 Demo

Next-Gen Unreal Engine 5 GDC 2023 Demo available for download

At GDC 2023, Epic Games showcased a next-gen tech demo for Unreal Engine 5.2. And today, we are happy to report that this demo (or to be more precise, its environment) is available for download as a Sample Project.

Going into more details, the Electric Dreams Environment Sample Project enables you to explore the demo’s jungle environment, which was constructed using just a handful of Quixel assets. The demo features Procedural Content Generation framework (PCG), as well as a new material authoring system called Substrate.

The demo includes seven levels to better explore and understand the PCG tools. Furthermore, this sample project includes other UE5 features, including Lumen, Nanite, and Soundscape.

Those interested can download the project from here.

Have fun!

  1. For those curious about this this runs, here’s someone doing a walkthrough with various DLSS settings on his RTX 4090: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyjOPPQBxBc

At native 4K epic settings the FPS basically dips to low 20s and to achieve playable settings a combination of DLSS2 and 3 is pretty much required. We’ve still got a long way to go before environments like this become feasible in games.

  2. 1080p. is this a joke? am I the only one using a damn 2K monitor ffs. when will the idiotic masses finally adopt 2K so the even more idiotic content creators finally release 2K videos. its not like big monitors are still expensive

    1. You’re talking about the video? I think this is a replay of a livestream epic games did, which they only streamed at 1080p probably to save on bandwidth and for livestream stability.
With that said, it looks like other videos related to this demo on the official Unreal Engine YT channel are still in 1080p for some dumb reason. I don’t know why they didn’t upload in 4K, especially since they have plenty of other videos in 4K.

      1. I’m a degenerate normie because I watch a lot of youtube videos. 99% of them are 1080p max. it hurts mate. I’m so ahead of time, but all I did was buy a mid-tier 27″ 1440p monitor. why are the majority of people 1080p degenerates? that’s like napkin monitors. still waiting for the masses to catch up. maybe around 2050 or so

        1. IMO 1080p isn’t even much of an issue by itself. Heck, even 720p is okay. The main problems are youtube’s HORRIFIC bitrates and compression. Even at 1080p, videos on that platform look like they were recorded on the first ever smart phone with a camera. At 1440p, video starts looking like how 1080p should look like, and at 4k videos finally start looking good. Apparently they recently added an improved bitrate setting at 1080p for some videos (called “premium 1080p”) but they’re charging you shekels via their youtube red subscription for it. Just lol.
