New patch for Amnesia: The Dark Descent adds Hard Mode

Frictional Games has released a brand new update for Amnesia: The Dark Descent. According to the developers, this new patch adds a Hard Mode and as its name suggests… this mode that makes it harder to beat the game.

In Hard Mode, the environments are harsher, the monsters more unforgiving, insanity is deadly, and death is final. This new mode affects the Illuminatus achievement, and beating the game on Hard Mode will earn you a new trophy called Masochist.

As always, Steam will download this patch the next time you launch its client and you can find its complete changelog below.

  1. soma flopped so they gotta go back to there money maker even after whoring it out to a different company… lol

    1. They made a larger profit from SOMA with over half a million games sold, and turned a profit despite costing more then ten times the whole budget of Amnesia. As usual, you have no idea what you’re talking about.

      1. really? Funny, no one talked about soma the way they talked about amnesia and other horror games that came out at the time.

So what are the best mods for amnesia.

      2. “They made a larger profit from SOMA with over half a million games sold”

not only was it a more expensive game but the marketing budget was insane for a indie game. viral marketing, the high quality live action videos, etc. They nearly went bankrupt as they expected this to sell millions as did alot of other analysts. it was a flop and now they got to go back to amnesia because there talent less developers who got lucky on there first game and will be the next taletwll games

lol i laugh at people who think because a dev sold half a million or more that they are rich or financially stable. look at tell tale games kiddo.

        1. Tell Tale games is not Frictional Games, I could care about what other companies have gone bankrupt over, because they push out far to many games that don’t sell or make back their budget. Frictional did with SOMA, they’ve said this themselves and that they secured their funding. You said they didn’t, because you have zero real understanding of the economic situation of one game studio versus others that develop far to many games that don’t actually sell or make it back.

As usual, no idea what you’re talking about. I’d call you a kiddo or a child but that’s an insult to children since they have far more intelligence than you display on a daily basis.

        2. Amnesia is hardly Frictional first game. The evolution of the engine alone took quite a while in Penumbra series.

  2. This is awesome, so glad they went back and added in a little difficulty to Amnesia since it was effective game with great atmosphere although it wasn’t exactly the most difficult game. Going to have to re-download the game and try out the Hard mode. 4 Tinder boxes per save while sanity dropping to zero is going to lead to some death traps.

    1. The quality of game design shows in how the game could’ve been approached and played till the end by almost everyone that was interested.
