There is no doubt – at this point – that the retail version of Dark Souls 2 looks awful and lacks the lighting system that was advertised when the game was original advertised. In fact, we’ve been saying how horrible the game was looking on our galleries, but that’s irrelevant at this point. Thankfully, Namco Bandai will make an announcement about this whole thing really soon.
NeoGAF tried to pressure Namco’s PR and according to ‘jschreier’, Namco PR is working with Japan in hopes of saying something next week.
“In case anyone’s curious, Namco PR told me today that they’re working with Japan in hopes of saying something next week. It’ll be on Kotaku whenever I get it.”
NeoGAF also aims to find out whether the PC version will also be downgraded or not.
Here is hoping that Namco will justify its decision of using an inferior lighting system, and that the PC version will not be affected by this.

I’d much rather have the rumored next-gen version of GTAV on PC rather than a rushed current-gen version. If such a version does indeed exist, I don’t think waiting is going to be a bad thing.
I think I’ll be giving Ubisoft my money for Watch Dogs instead of Rockstar for GTA V. That is of course if rumors are true and the pc version didn’t get downgraded like the console trash did.

I wouldnt say the game was “ported” to pc. Cryengine 3 allows to develop simultaneously on the engine. Yes the game is based on consoles in terms of map design and interactivity but its a dx11 game utilizing multiple cpu cores, its anything but a port.

No because Crysis was a proper PC game with sharp, crisp fidelity, MSAA and effects that were cut out in the console version, even the console version couldn’t play it at the same fidelity as the PC in 2007, still can’t. They had to use CE3 and claim it was better because of the new engine which used deferred lighting, forgetting to tell dumb console users all the effects they cut out from the PC version.

there is a whole new engine built for halo 4 , the sound effects alone is way better than any other game you can feel the chif is like a tank in his heavy armor just by the animation and the sound ITS A BRAND NEW ENGINE .

Not sure wtf you smoking, this generation is the longest one yet, most generations are 5-6 years the reason it was the longest was because they were actually quite powerfull and both sony and ms had to make their money back since the development of those consoles was expensive as hell and they couldnt make anything better without spending bilions each year for research and development, thus they gone to amd to do it for them.
ps2 started in 2000 and stoped getting AAA games in 2005.
x360 started in 2005 and 9 years later it still gets games. X360 was ahead pcs at its time. Ps3 was originally not gonna have a gpu it was cpu powerhorse and it came out in 2006.
Those consoles were powerfull with uknown architectures.
PS4/XBO are weak especially the xbo so there is a big gap there and their architectures are well known these consoles wil last 6 years at best. Even sony admited this gen will be shorter.

Tomb Raider 2013 has DX9 support, BF3/4 has DX10 support, my goodness even a 8800 has DX10 support and that was released in 2006. You don’t even know if GTA V will require DX11 support, my guess is that it won’t, just like Max Payne 3.

Get your facts straight, BF4 will run on any DX10 card. DX10 cards came out in 2006. XBox360 was slightly ahead of PC’s when it came out in terms of power, so factor in that.

Devs already know x86, they’re not going to magically get performance out of the hardware 2 years later like the crappy CELL CPU in the PS3, what a dreadful piece of hardware to program for.
Games on the XB1 and PS4 are already being maxed out, they know the hardware, it’s easier then ever, they have the software, they’re PC’s and the only tricks they can pull is better code like the PC itself.
yeah but because the consoles will last for at least 8 years the devs will have to change the look of the games and make it look better and that will be the effects of the engines , maybe they’ll use fake lighting and effects like what devs use on 360 and PS3 to make them look good , but the thing is they will looks better every year and gameplay will evolve , that’s what i liked in consoles and kept me a console player ^_^
It’s only been 8 years because Microsoft and Sony didn’t make any money for the first 3-4 years, I wouldn’t say that has been much innovation in gameplay either. I feel sorry for devs programming for such old hardware, they can’t innovate at all with it and it’s actually held back games in graphics and gameplay.
hmmm lets see , this gen get AC games witch was innovative and continued to be innovative through its life circle 2 and 4 shows what im saying
fps games got way better than last gen thx to MW4 then got sucks thx to MW3 (ironic huh)
3D person games shows that this gen was great for them from gears of war to uncharted
GTA V alone is the most innovative game ive seen from AI to the ambition to the small missions scattered in the huge world
im telling you if the consoles sold as good as the current gen consoles or better a lot of devs well be working on them (specially MS sends free xbox one’s to small development companies witch will encourage them to work on consoles even more)
and with the architecture of one and 4 and PC being close small companies can make games for them together well need less the time witch means a bit cheaper 🙂
GTA is pretty much a guaranteed hit, most games don’t even come close to that in sales. If GTA V failed it would be really bad for Rockstar since, they’ve invested so much in the game franchise and they get paid loads of money to keep it for consoles for a while before releasing it on PC, which is nasty business.
yeah ive heard the game coasted them 250m or something like that , but the sales got them 10 times what they’ve paid for making it
hmmm idk there are a lot of rumors lately about its gonna be for PC and next gen with updated graphics and more features , like game of the year edition with all the DLC’s
this is a reply for the halo comment , the first one is MP , and the corridor missions is just one or two .
maybe they used fake stuff to make it looks great but it does looks great and feels great believe me i felt like im playing a next gen game
look i was a PC player then my PC needed overwhole it needed a new PC and when i saw the games i was playing on the console (ps2 that time) they looked for me better that’s why i changed , im not a lapled guy like a MS fan or sony fan or PC fan i just find a machine that make me happy as a gamer then get it i had PC then PS2 then 360 yeah consoles doesn’t have the graphics of PC for me they was better .

I say graphics not visuals eg crysis has better graphics than uncharted 2 but uncharted 2 has better visuals same goes for wind waker.
Graphics wise halo 4 isnt much, also have you noticed its halo game has smaller maps? Thats because to make big maps with “next gen” details takes alot of power so they make maps smaller.
NOTHING is like ps2 era anymore. PS2 was the greatest console ever made, tons of exlusives, sony respected people and it was weaker than xbox and gamecube but it had the best games.
Now pc gamings is cheaper and pc has far more exlusives than ever before, pc gaming now is nothing like back then, people bought ps2 back then for the main reason of being a cheaper way to play games than pc and plug and play, now it isnt, consoles have mp fees, games are 60-70 bucks while on ps2 they were 50 and they got installs and firmwire updates and errors.
Might as well buy a pc unless you care about exlusives.
yeah halo doesn’t have big maps maybe a couple of descent ones but not big ones , oh yeah i remember the old xbox didn’t have much great games maybe just halo and star wars knights games those two was the most memorable games in the xbox but sony made PS2 legendary and tell now its one of the best
i know that PC have a lot of exclusives but most of them is not my type of games like MMO and strategy games , they’re good games but i don’t play them (like diablo its great but not for me) , i bought my PS2 just because i saw god of war i was a huge fan of hack n slash and ive played DMC3 on PC after i saw GOD i just had to get one 😀
maybe , like ive told you im not a fanboy of any company but i only choose one platform every gen , so at the end of 2014 my decision will be made (so far im into X1 but second son might change my mind , and if i had a chance to get a high tech PC that’s not expensive i might try to return to PC gaming)

Shadowrun returns, cyperpuk tactical squad rpg like moves like johnny mnemonic and bladerunner.
outlast, horror game with a camera in a mental asylum.
among the sleep, again horror game but you play as a baby hding from monsters in the darkness and going to a “imagination land”
red orchestra 2, mp REALLISTIC world war 2 shooter with a sp option, you can even plays a nazis if you want to see a campaign from that perspective.
Natural selection, mp games that you have to defend yourself form aliens..BUT one player gets to be the commander and play in strategy mode and command other players and build the base.
those are just what i am playing right now.

yeah its a horror game also there is serious sam 3 and the sequel to socom called H hour and there is start star citizien a dogfight game.
yeah star citizen is really awesome , i don’t think i can run it on my laptop -_- but ill try anyway 😀 , the graphics is really great and crytic is working on the facial animation so its gonna be SICK 😀
the console version has invisible walls and the koreans have blurrier textures and inferior geometry, something that evne you put on the lowest settings didnt happen on pc.They re done every model in the game and all lighting effects.
to tell the truth crysis 1 still beats anything on console. Kz 3 has better textures in some places…again SOME places ,but thats just that.
i played it on 360 and it looked good enough 🙂
it was a joke compared to the pc version, they remade most models tone down lighting and destruction and draw distane if you compare crysis 1 with halo 4 THEN YES the x360 version doesnt reach halo 4 but the pc version does. Consoles did not became magically more powerfull its just that devs used tricks to render games while consuming less resources eg inferior lighting and a overal simplified engine.
Hell unreal engine 4 had some pretty impressive lighting but now they removed it from the engine because next gen consoles cant handle it.
what destruction do in a crysis game we parley destroy anything , its just a pretty game with no destruction , if you want to talk about destruction then tell me BF3 , yeah BF3 in PC have more destruction but not bad on 360
and there is a saying that goes “hardware doesn’t get powerful software does” and that only apply for consoles not PC .
Actually in crysis 1 you could destroy huts, cut down trees and then cut them again and throw them in tiny pieces of any size, i have not seen that in any other game.

Yes bf3 has more destruction but its scripted, buildings go down in smoke after a few hits rather parts of the building falling off. They basicly hide destruction from you and throw smoke to your face when you blow something up.
bad company 1 had destruction and it was a console game, But you cant have everything you gonna have to remove stuff to make the game run, dice and rockstar may do wonder in their games but everyone else has linear corridors with no destruction.

no BF4 is the one with the falling buildings BF3 is the one im talking about in MP in PC you can destroys a lot of stuff compared to consoles but in consoles they’re good too (current gen consoles)
like ive told you the destruction thing is rare in games i love halo but it doesn’t have it only BF games have it , R* is my opinion the gods of the games they can miracles in a 10 years old machines and that made me love my 360 even more 😀

Destruction is usually more trouble that its worth, big its not like red faction series sold well. They prefer to focus on graphics. Thats the deal with pc, infinite power= do everything, now having the money and time and workforce to cover the development of everything…thats another thing.
Ubisoft is putting everyone on it. Hell a dev who worked on ac3 didnt know that ac3 had lockpicking ubisoft puts multiple studios working on their games and at some point there are so many people touching the game that no one really nows what they doing and if its balanced or if the engine can handle it.
Thats why i think the old games are the best, games now take so many people ot make that its a mess, thus bugs and unbalanced gameplay.
Gta iv run at a superior ressolution on x360 while ps3 was more powerfull that was because it was easier to make games than ps3 which had a messy architecture, then again x360 had lots of red rings of death.
Now they know most of the new consoles there arent much to improve, sure the graphics will improve but they wont have such a big diffirence after 5 years like last gen. After a while the amount of time and work it takes to improve graphics to a point that its an actual “improvement” its too much and costs alot so no one is willing to do it.
Besides its about the gameplay.
but i think destruction will be the next big thing for military fps games (not sci-fi) even COD try to have destruction in their map but it couldn’t (cod sucks)
yeah ubi started to do that to make the games in shorter periods to be able to release them annually but they’ve failed to deliver great game the only good ones are 2 brotherhood and 4 the rest was meh (i didn’t like 1 too) , they should change their way of making games to make the ac series great again
yeah 360 was easier to made with simpler architecture than PS3 that’s why most multiplatform games looked better on 360 than PS3 , about the red rings thing i have an arcade 360 the old white one and still nothing happened to it , i think some people had it and then the story got over hyped (just a thought idk for sure)
yeah i think only big studios will keep pushing the graphics because they can (like R* and UBI) and they have the money to do so , and other studios might change the art of the games to cartoonish way like borderlands to make it look good but no need of high end graphics , and sony and MS will keep pushing the systems for an endless battle between them (but sony always release more games at the last one or two years of the platform)
Crysis 1 is all realtime, pretty much hardly anything is pre-computed(SSAO is pre-computed), even the clouds are volumetric which is one thing Crytek cut out of the console version. A lot of games just use 2D sky boxes still to this day. Crysis 1 also supported up to 16xMSAA on the PC, last-gen consoles don’teven have the power to use MSAA.
hmmm i can’t remember a lot of games but halo used a realtime clouds i sometimes just stare up when i take rests , V have it too , uncharted have those too , in some games yeah they’re computed like forza but they’re still looks good to the eyes and have great effects
the only thing i do like in some games in PC is the hair like in tomb raider the hair in the PC looks great that’s the only thing that made me feel the current gen is outdated , other stuff like BF destruction maybe but not that much

Max Payne 3 blows them anyway, 1080p/60fps as well on my GTX660 and 4 year old CPU, very high, no MSAA, FXAA very high, V-Sync, triple buffer.

Gabe newel was pretty pissy about ps3 architecture he started swearing, i read that sony made the architecture on purpuse so devs wont bother porting to third platforms because its too hard. (they thought they get ps2 sales thus all games made primarly for ps3)
