Microsoft has announced the next part in its GoW series, Gears of War: E-Day. Gears of War: E-Day will be powered by Unreal Engine 5, will be developed by The Coalition, and will be a prequel to the first Gears of War.
The game takes place fourteen years before Gears of War. War heroes Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago return home to face a new nightmare: the Locust Horde. These subterranean monsters, grotesque and relentless, erupt from below, laying siege on humanity itself.
Gears of War: E-Day promises to deliver unprecedented graphical fidelity thanks to UE5. And although MS and The Coalition did not share any additional details, we can assume that the game will take full advantage of both Lumen and Nanite.
To celebrate this announcement, MS shared the following in-engine cinematic trailer. As you will see, it looks absolutely stunning. The last panoramic shot, in particular, looks phenomenal. So I’m curious to see whether the game will be able to match these visuals during gameplay.
Finally, there is no ETA on when Gears of War: E-Day will come out.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

the writing already seemed pretty good in this trailer. this is more for the fans that remember the characters. definitely got vibes from seeing Dom once again. so long ago the original games were. the trailer also seemed very good in quality and detail.
good animations and expressions too. amazing work.
Writing? what are you talking about, the "ugh, argh, stomp, thud…" effects?
The reason Xbox is dead outside of the US, is because Xbox is all about space-marine FPS, US sports, US superhero games, etc.
Game genres the rest of the world doesn't care about.
Yeah, its too American. Need more EU and Asian themes.
Yeah, its too American. Need more EU and Asian themes.
They tried appealing to the Asian market nearly two decades ago with RPGs like Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon on the Xbox 360, but unsurprisingly it failed. Some people just refuse to buy American.
"Some people just refuse to buy American."
Smart choice.
I think you're failing to see that Xbox has now just become a windows user acquisition for Microsoft. The shareholders don't see Xbox as losing money because of games people aren't interested in, It's spun as Xbox has been spending money to acquire and retain users to the Windows Ecosystem.
False. They're failing on all fronts because they haven't been making enough interesting games to entice people on why they should buy their system in the first place. Since when did Microsoft produce sports games outside of motorsports? Every modern game from the genres you listed are available on all platforms. And when it comes to space marine FPS games they've only made 2 within the last 10 years (GOW 4 & 5). That doesn't sound like a lot to me.
It's usually the Asian markets but more specifically, Japan, where Microsoft has always struggled to make an everlasting impression on the populace there. The reason for that is because they're a pacifist society which considers guns to be taboo and I guess they're just not all that keen on foreign products. They've had that kind of mindset since the end of WWII and is the reason why shooters don't do well over there. Just like how JRPGs don't always do well in the West since most Westerners aren't into colourful, anime, childlike RPGs.
The rest of the world doesn't care about US superheroes?
No.
Yes they do
Excuse you?
Im hoping this makes for an interesting story. We know Dom and Marcus have to make it so there's not really anything to be worried about for them stakes wise.
The first two games in the series were phenomenal. They were simple, yet the atmosphere was fantastic and the level design was top-notch. However, after Microsoft's takeover, the games seemed to decline. I have zero hopes for these series.
Still waiting on Xenia to catch up so I can play the series.
I think it is playable, better than the console.
The only thing xbox can do right to give to it's classic audience. But we'll see how it goes
It's been nearly five years since the last one, and the best they can do is show us a two minute "in-engine" cutscene and not even have a target release year show up at the end of the video. Absolutely pathetic.
Basically the Halo Reach of the Gears series.
E day feels like a code name rather than a sub title. maybe they could have done like Gears 0, emmergence or Zero Day
Reminds me of the Doom / Military shooter hybrid that never made it.
Another prequel? And what happened to the girlboss, microsoft putting the woke away for once? Seems to be a trend.
Nice reveal trailer with Marcus and Dom, the OG team!
