Windows 10 feature 2

Microsoft confirms that Windows 10 KB4482887 update can degrade graphics & mouse performance in certain games

On March 1st, Microsoft released a brand new update for Windows 10 that brought a number of quality improvements. However, and after various reports, Microsoft has confirmed that this latest update can degrade graphics and mouse performance in certain games (like for example Destiny 2).

As Microsoft noted in the official page for the Windows 10 KB4482887 update:

“After installing KB4482887, users may notice graphics and mouse performance degradation with desktop gaming when playing certain games (eg: Destiny 2).”

Microsoft claimed that it’s currently working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release. Still, and as a workaround, PC gamers can uninstall KB4482887 to regain performance.

Microsoft has not explained/detailed the reasons behind this performance degradation. Moreover, this issue may not affect everyone therefore we strongly suggest uninstalling this update only if you are experiencing worse performance in your favourite games after applying it.

Kudos to our reader “Metal Messiah” for bringing this to our attention!

  1. Kudos to our reader “Metal Messiah” for bringing this to our attention!

include him in staff :p it’s not the first time he’s bringing news and not the second

    1. Metal Messiah should be the Editor-in-chief and John should work under him. All John contributes to this website is nude mods and AI enhanced textures.

      1. And the occasional “BEAUTIFUL screenshots” article that consistently measures up as some of the ugliest games and graphical screenshots (and Reshade presets) I’ve ever seen featured anywhere.

  2. It’s sad the state of MS testing before dumping these updates on millions of their gaming customers. There was a time when they had a Quality Assurance Dept. and there wasn’t so much of this nonsense.

    1. Then you better not use your PC for online use after Jan 2020 because that’s when MS pulls the plug on extended support and that means no more security updates.

      1. The only thing Windows Update has provided for the past 2 years is monthly updated Windows Malicious Software Removal Tools, Quality Rollups for .NET frameworks, Quality Rollups for Windows 7 x64, and daily Security Essentials updated definitions.

I wonder if between now and January there will be a way to continue those post MS’s official update system.

      2. FWIW, I’ve been using WIndows 7 OS since a long time, and will continue to do so even after MS drops the official support on JAN 2020.

I might also use a “Win 7 pirated” copy instead, because this Windows 10 OS is still in BETA stage, and each new update breaks things, rather than fixing them properly, which makes it unstable, so that’s why I’ve been avoiding installing this OS.

But some users are not facing any serious issues, so it’s kind of a mixed bag.

Anyways, even though I have a LEGIT copy of both Windows 7 and Windows 10 pro OS 64-bit versions, I haven’t installed Windows 10 since past 11 months or so.

        1. And menus change every bigger update. I have been relearning simple things (was in Win7) like adding new keyboard language, switching layouts on it. Like 3 times they changed locations of those in current lifetime of Win10

        2. And menus change every bigger update. I have been relearning simple things (was in Win7) like adding new keyboard language, switching layouts on it. Like 3 times they changed locations of those in current lifetime of Win10

        3. When you say you’re using a ‘Win 7 Pirated’ copy, other than not being registered, what is different about it?

          1. I’m not using any pirated copy right now. I said, I’m going to try the pirated/cracked version, once the official support drops, just to check it’s stability and performance.

Though, I should also be able to use my LEGIT copy of Windows 7 even after Jan 2020, but my system might become prone to threats as well, because MS won’t provide any security patches.

But the same can be said for the “pirated” copy as well, though I’m going to have more control over the REGISTRY and other Windows 7 settings with this version of Windows installed.

          2. I see. Do you know where the best place is to keep an eye on for possible ways to circumvent, or adapt to the changes once the official support stops, be it by any official or non-official means?

      3. My last update was in 2016 and it works perfectly!
The story of “security update” is a big bul..hit by microsoft.

  3. Not sure what’s going on with my Windows 10 Pro but from time to time updates won’t update at all. I’m stuck at Windows version 1809 (which is Falls Creators update) and version 17763.253. I can’t update to “KB4487044” and “KB4483452” since it is giving me error “0x8e5e03fa” in both of them.

Had this issue before with other updates (plural…yes many updates had this problem before) and had to install Windows again with a new updated ISO file with the latest version (which is the thing I will do once a more stable version comes out).

Now looking at these problems I’m glad my version is not upgrading itself. My PC perhaps is protecting itself from Windows alone thinking it is a virus or something. lol

      1. This. I jumped ship four years ago and couldn’t be happier. My system is my own that does what I want when I want.

      2. You’d be surprised how much works great in Wine nowadays. RE2make released, within the day we had people confirming “it runs, just drop this .dll in the folder,” and within a week someone had confirmed you could beat it.

And I saw a video of Metro Exodus running pretty well under Wine.

Only real blocker at this point is anticheat programs using kernel hooks that aren’t implemented yet.

  4. Still sitting under v1803 thanks to OOSU10. Nothing of value was lost with these future ‘updates’.

  5. The latest batch of Windows 10 updates from yesterday (KB4480056, KB4482887 and KB4486553) have made my PC boot to command prompt every time. A totally black screen with only command prompt window open. So I have to type in and enter ‘explorer’ to proceed to Windows main screen every damned time I switch on my PC. I’ve searched online for a solution but to no avail. If anybody here knows how to fix it then PLEASE reply!

EDIT: Fixed! Malwarebytes had seemingly false flagged and quarantined a registry entry as being a bitcoin mining threat. I just restored said file and all is now well again.

    1. Are you sure there is no actual BITCOIN mining virus still left on your PC ? It’s kind of strange that MB flagged an actual registry entry as a threat.

Which Registry entry/file was it though ?

      1. Malwarebytes states,

        Category: Malware
        Name: RiskWare(dot)BitCoinMiner
        Object Type: Registry value
Location: HKUS (lots of numbers) SOFTWAREMICROSOFTCOMMAND PROCESSOR | AUTORUN

        1. As far as I’m concerned, this Windows command processor is a necessary Windows service related to command prompt that starts automatically on startup.

Removing it from startup or killing the process might freeze and/or crash any PC, imo.

Even though that’s a legitimate file, this Windows Command Processor has been reported as a Trojan/malware that seems to invite more threats via the internet, slow down one’s PC, freeze the system, and even cripple some of your insatlled antivirus and antispyware programs.

By adding a registry entry, this virus can add itself to the startup list therefore running automatically every time you restart your PC.

Sometimes writers of malware programs, such as viruses, worms, and Trojans deliberately give their processes the same file name to escape detection.

          1. It’s the sentiment expressed in your final paragraph that’s of concern to me. I just viewed network activity using task manager and there was next to nothing showing. After closing Steam and Firefox there was literally zero network activity showing. So if it is a genuine bitcoin mining virus/malware then it’s either not working right now or is fooling task manager into believing it’s not working.

      2. Point taken. Maybe it wasn’t a false flag? I’m not sure how else I would determine that though. Maybe running a virus scan (I have Norton) and spyware scan (I have Spybot)?

        1. Yeah, you can try scanning your PC once again by using some other AV.

Also, try looking in the LOG entries. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware produces 2 different logs, like the Protection log, and the Scan log as shown below. This allows the user to view and/or delete logs.

          https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/e375b98733266783f65b391a4d29884061eb0a50263f47328d9443888cb975e8.png

Apart from this, it also has a Daily Protection LOG Window, as shown below:

Anyways, a scan Log is created each time a scan is run and executed. Scan logs can be found here, if I’m not mistaken:

          C:ProgramDataMalwarebytesMalwarebytes Anti-MalwareLogs

You can view any log file by clicking the log to select it, then clicking the View button.

          1. GPU load/usage (core clock, memory clock, GPU load and memory used) is fine, i.e. at normal idling numbers. Fans are silent too. Nothing to indicate GPU or CPU is being used for anything more beyond idling activity.

          2. It seems that way what with activity results not indicating anything suspicious and Norton having not detected anything. Hopefully it’s a false positive by Malwarebytes but I’ll be keeping an eye on things just in case it’s not. Thank you sincerely for your advice and assistance!

          3. Try restarting your PC as well, just to further rule out this issue. If upon a system reboot, you don’t face that command prompt/black screen again, then we can safely say your system is 100% clean.

          4. Restarted twice now just to be doubly sure all is well and I’m happy to report that it is.

Trying to reason things through, it’s been several days since I last downloaded anything with the potential to be suspect and the problem hadn’t occurred in all of that time. The problem occurred first immediately after having powered on my PC the time after Windows Update installed the aforementioned three updates. So while that doesn’t rule out the problem having been my own doing it does nevertheless seemingly point more toward it being a Malwarebytes issue with Windows 10 updates on my PC.

          5. Cool.

Btw, if you wish, you can also try contacting the official Malwarebytes SUPPORT team, just to inform them about this issue. Who knows this indeed is related to the latest version of the MB Tool ?

You can create a Ticket via their official website, if need be. Happy Gaming !

    2. That’s my worry after having downloaded cracked Metro Exodus and a couple of SJW pandering games via torrents! CPU and GPU temps, loads and network usage are normal so nothing suspicious is happening in that respect.

  6. I deactivated all Updates since last year (stopupdates10) and i dont have any Problems since then…waiting for the big april update and hopefully they fixing all that sh*t then….

  7. Just FYI, as noted this update KB4482887 has been creating huge performance problems for quite few gamers on Windows 10, affecting mouse movements and graphics, and few other issues.

The problems are reportedly worse on games that are nearly a decade old, like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. However, the bug doesn’t affect games like the 2018 release, Battlefield V.

From Destiny 2, to Sea of Thieves and beyond, the performance hits themselves are reportedly ‘hardware agnostic’, it doesn’t matter if you’re running AMD, Intel or Nvidia, you’ll likely fall prey to both frame rate drops in game, and severe input lag.

    1. Despite the above issue, Windows 10 has gained 100 Million Users Since September.

More than 800 million devices are running Windows 10–which is 100 million more than there were six months ago.

With that caveat in mind, it seems like Windows 10 is reaching more devices faster than before. The operating system took 10 months to go from 600 million active devices to 700 million, but only six months to hit 800 million after that.

      1. Well, the only Windows OS that runs on new hardware is 10, that’s how they get the numbers going. Wonder what would be happened if that limitation didn’t exist.

  8. time to adjust some firewall settings, microshaft is getting on my nerves with their useless and garbage updates left and right.

  9. Quality control for games and software is really bad these days because rather than paying people to beta test, they get people doing it for free ( or even have them pay to be in a beta 😀 ) just so they get to experience things early. No-one is actually doing the actual job of beta testing.

  10. Windows 10… what a joke… It is meant to spy us and to sell SSD (Microsoft must have shares in the memory chip companies) since it’s make update 24/7/365 and litterally kill HDD performances… Not to mention the fact that they take us for real beta testers…. Shame on them.

  11. I don’t have KB4482887 installed but I’m definitely up-to-date. Is it possible Microsoft has already removed/replaced it with another KB?

EDIT: Nvm, just got it.. I think the article should say ‘March 7th’ not ‘March 1st’, cause I check for updates every day and never got this one until today.

  12. MS just loves to screw up PC gaming to make their little plastic Xbox looking better. Typical as usual. Game bar, forced update, faulty and backwards DX 12 and now this.

Top it all off with their crappy storefront and it looks like MS is still at it in terms of trying to make PC gaming look bad.

  13. Silly…Off Topic stuff.

Slime Rancher is now available for Free on the Epic Games Store, until March 21st”.

At the time of writing, Slime Rancher boasts a score of 81% on Metacritic and “Overwhelmingly Positive” reviews on Steam, making the game more than worth picking up on Epic’s storefront, given its current pricing levels, IMO.

Also, do you guys like LEGO ?

One creator who goes by the name ‘MinorMayo’, has presented his RTX 2080 Ti Lego Edition to the ‘Lego Ideas‘ website for consideration.

As the description reads, “”RTX 2080ti from Nvidia. This is a graphics card for full size computers. I built it because I love computers and their hardware and also love to build in LEGO progams. I believe it would a great LEGO set because it could bring computer nerds into the LEGO realm, and also bring LEGO enthusiasts into the pc world. It would also allow people to purchase a version of the card for a lot less money than the real thing”“.

    1. More OT news.. Google urges users to update Chrome immediately.

A serious Google Chrome security vulnerability has been spotted, with the company urging users to upgrade to the latest version immediately.

The vulnerability is dubbed CVE-2019-5786, and hackers are using it to hijack the software and run spyware and ransomware.

Google is urging Chrome users to update their browsers immediately after a zero-day exploit that could give hackers direct access to a user’s OS has been found. The most recent version is 72.0.3626.121, and it’s the version you want to be running to make sure you’re safe from this exploit.

  14. That why they shouldnt force garbage update on their users, especially since we can see they dont do proper testing at all.

  15. Off Topic, but related news. Windows 10 Could Automatically Delete Bad Updates.

Microsoft has rolled out a new feature for Windows 10 that allows the operating system (OS) to automatically uninstall broken or incompatible updates. Windows 10 will attempt to fix startup failures with automatic recovery attempts before uninstalling the updates. Users will see this message “We removed some recently installed updates to recover your device from a startup failure.”

The OS will prevent problematic updates from installing automatically for the next 30 days.

But the company said in its support article that Windows 10 specifically removes updates that caused startup failures. Updates that cause other issues will still need to be removed manually, which is probably good for people who don’t care if an update breaks games they don’t play.

  16. Some interesting OT stuff. Tim Berners-Lee Celebrates the Web’s 30th Birthday

Today is the web’s 30th birthday. Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web, commemorated the occasion with a blog post on the World Wide Web Foundation website in which he identified some of the web’s greatest problems..

Berners-Lee said that half the world is now online, which is quite the accomplishment considering the web’s only been around for three decades

Today, he published an open letter on the future of the web, noting that “while the web has created opportunity, given marginalised groups a voice, and made our daily lives easier, it has also created opportunity for scammers, given a voice to those who spread hatred, and made all kinds of crime easier to commit.
