Yesterday, Konami announced that Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 will release on PC on October 24th. However, it appears that this collection requires a controller, and it won’t officially support keyboard and mouse.
Konami launched – and then took down – the official Steam store page of the collection. And as the Steam page states.
“Notice: METAL GEAR SOLID – Master Collection Version requires a controller in order to play. Playing with a keyboard and mouse isn’t supported.”
My guess is that the first two games will still be playable with a keyboard and mouse. I mean, both of the original versions of Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2 support K&M. So yeah, I don’t think Konami has completely removed support for it. Or I could be wrong. Anyway, K&M players will have to rely on mods in order to enjoy the game (if the collection is friendly to modders). That, or they’ll have to get a controller.
To Konami’s credit, they did list this on the Steam page. Other companies have not done this, so kudos to them for at least letting PC gamers know about it.
This collection will feature the first three main parts of the MGS franchise (as well as Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake and the NES versions of Metal Gear and 1990’s Snake’s Revenge).

What kind of dickish non-thought out reply is this? “Designed around a gamepad” is still valid and yes, it’s lazy development, but as a hobby game designer you DO explicitly have to design around a gamepad, keyboard/mouse controls, and/or both, even with tools that make it EXTREMELY easy to implement, there’s a design choice to support gamepad, keyboard or both. You’re reading a lot into a simple statement. They didn’t excuse anything, gamers need to demand more compatibility and stop supporting games that don’t have proper support and keybinding.

Lol except playing these games in particular on mouse and keyboard would be a horrid experience. I remember trying to play the original MGS PC port with keyboard and it was garbage. Especially MGS 2 and MGS 3 they’re built for dualshock 2’s pressure sensitive face buttons. Not to mention the finger gymnastics required to pull off certain actions in game would be a NIGHTMARE on keyboard as it can already be convoluted on controller. So yes, you could make the stubborn argument that a game is a game is a game and they should all have KB/M support, but then you’d also be the first one here complaining about the keyboard control scheme being subpar

Mouse & keyboard are arms and legs of pc. Gamepad does not define pcgaming. Mouse & keyboard do. Gamepad is a console accessory first & foremost as much as mouse & keyboard are for pc.

First two games already work great and have mods. And with keyboard and mouse. I just want MGS3 on PC which can’t be emulated properly on any emulator. Then hopefully we get Twin snakes, Peace walker, and MGS4 on Vol 2
There’s no mouse support and pcsx2 works fine.
Pcsx2 have major slowdowns in this game. You can experience it in the first tutorial missions alone if you played it.

PCSX2 is vastly faster nowadays in both OpenGL and Vulkan. The slowdowns are a thing of the past, especially on modern hardware (and drivers).
Maybe upgrade yout rig instead of blaming emulation? Also the HD version of MGS3 on 360 works 100% no glitches on xenia emulator with just two option changes. And before that I played subsistance on pcsx2 with no slowdowns on my old 1060.
I’d be surprised if MGS4 would get a proper port to PC, given that it uses a predecessor to Fox engine custom-built around PS3’s very “unique” Frankenstein system architecture.
At best, we could hope for an officially optimized build of RPCS3 specifically for MGS4, which still would require AVX-512 support for decent performance.
MGS4 on RPCS3 does not require AVX 512 for decent performance anymore. I have tried all those recent updates for past 6 – 7 months on a regular basis on an i7 – 13700KF and the results are damn impressive. But, there are few places where FPS drops down to 45 – 48.
What build do you game MSGIV on buddy? The official one or that modded build that arguably offers higher fps but requires each scenario to load separately?

I’ll just refer to the story of MGS4 on 360. MGS4 on PC is not that crazy.

However, keep in mind that Xbox 360 also had an IBM PowerPC CPU, similar to the PS3’s main core of the IBM Cell architecture.
Porting that to the x86 ISA used on PCs is not as straightforward.
MGS3 is emulated properly on PSCX2, RPCS3 and even Xenia these days, what are you talking about.
The problem with PCSX2/RPCS3 is you need pressure sensitive buttons for the CQC.
MGS4 most certanly got licensing issues due to the IPod and will never be re-released. Or the famous PS3 Engine is too hard to port idk. One can dream

Twin snakes has never been ported and the code probably went up in flames alongside Silicon Knights.

It’s better to have a soulless remake that has better pc support and better controls. If the publishers and developers actually bother to preserve their classic console games for all platforms, they should provide platform specific support.

This is how you know this is done by people who have no idea what they are doing. The nes versions suck, completely different games not made by kojima, the msx versions, specifically 2 is like playing a demake of metal gear solid.
It says “AND” and the NES versions. From what I remember, Snake Eater Subsistence had the MSX versions of MG1 and MG2 bundled in already.
Except this collection also includes the MSX versions so I don’t see the point in griping about the inclusion of the crappy NES versions too. Hell, having the MSX versions readily available to play almost makes this collection worth buying. But if the Solid trilogy is just the base versions and not Integral, Substance, and Subsistence, then I’m not as interested as I would have been otherwise.
The fact you can remap the inputs in the pcsx2 and rpcs3 emulators to mouse and keyboards makes whatever reason for not supporting m/k ridiculous

Which I’ve always found ironic since when the Japanese make PC games they tend to be pretty based. You would think with all the mature themes they like to include in their games that are incompatible with the regressive console market we would have seen Japan fully embrace the PC by now.
I guess Capcom and Kojima Productions are the only exceptions.
Japanese companies are just utterly HORRIBLE in porting their games to PC with the exception of Capcom. Just horrible. Same thing happened with Ninja Gaiden Collection last year. No keyboard and mouse support.

Just typical lazy-ass PC port nonsense. They want your money but don’t want to put in the effort. The modders will fix it for them, after all!
Just play it on controller. It’s made for controller and difficulty is balanced with that in mind.
People never think how easy these games are that depend on slowly aiming with twin sticks if you give them full mouse and keyboard. You could just run around headshotting everyone with ease and the tension and gameplay is totally ruined.

There are already better ways of playing these games:
– MGS Twin Snakes on Dolphin w/ HD Textures
– MGS2 on PC w/ 3rd person mod and V’s fix
– MGS3 on Xenia
– MGS4 on RPCS3
– MGS Peace Walker on RPCS3
Add some Reshade and use ReWASD for mouse support, and there’s no reason to support Konami again.
