Square Enix has temporarily removed Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver from Steam which sparked some rumors about an HD Remaster/Remake. However, this won’t be happening so you should temper your expectations.
According to an official note, Square Enix has temporarily removed the game from sale to work on some important updates. These updates, however, are mostly Quality of Life improvements and nothing more. From the looks of it, Square Enix plans to release the game on GOG, and that improved version will also come out on Steam.
Modder ‘wrace’, creator of the Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver Enhanced Mod, got in touch with GOG. As GOG told him, the new version of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver will be ready in about two weeks. This version will have a number of quality of life and compatibility fixes but it will not have any major enhancements. So yeah, don’t expect an HD Remaster as it won’t be happening.
Here is the message that wrace received from GOG.
“The new version will have a number of quality of life and compatibility fixes but it will not have any ‘enhancements’ from your fix like the higher resolution intro, New Game+, achievements etc. What we could do, however, is to highlight your work on the game’s product page with a link to a forum post where users will be able to enhance their experience if they choose to by using your product.
I realise that technically we won’t be able to match your work (especially since we will just making the game work and look as it did back in the day without making any improvements), but we will do our best here!”

mhe i have the original boxed ones , not much of a loss
Wrace’s patch is great, especially for the upscaled intro, but i’ll stick to the emulated DC version with upscaled textures, it’s miles better and easier to run than the PC version
It will be enough if they make it playable.
Interesting. Let’s see what they make.
Like anyone should want this garbage woke company to even attempt a remaster or remake of this classic. SquareEnix couldn’t produce a simple game of tic-tac-toe, without f**king it up entirely.
I remember my Dreamcast version being better than the PC version. And that was over 20 years ago
man I never played this game but I know about it and I really want a remake
What is his reason for not doing it?
Wish they could add the cut content.
