Legacy of Kain fans, get ready for a treat. It appears that Crystal Dynamics may be working on remasters of the first two Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver games.
The following images were captured from this year’s SDDC event. And, as we can see, the statue that was being displayed there was from Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver I & II Remastered.
My guess is that this will be a remastered collection that will have these two classic games.
Now while we don’t know much about it, the title of the collection reminds me of the one for Tomb Raider. If that’s the case, you should expect some graphical improvements. The games will most likely look similar to the original 32-bit versions. So, don’t expect high-polygon 3D models, 8K textures or Ray Tracing.
As said, Crystal Dynamics hasn’t announced anything official as of yet. In theory, we should get a confirmation of this collection at Gamescom 2024.

Did I miss an ending? No, I didn't. The story isn't finished and they're doing remasters? Really? Just finish the damn tale already! The voice actors are gonna die of old age before this series gets a proper ending at this rate.
Never played the games but I am aware that Tony Jay had a prominent role in this franchise. He died back in 06. It sucks because guys like him and Michael Ironside have exceptional voices which I don't think can easily be replicated by anyone else unless AI really takes off.
Dude, when Tony Jay passed, I died a little. He had one of the most iconic voices. Michael is much too old to play Raziel now. A recast will definitely be necessary, but it is what it is. I'm sure people will make AI mods for the voices as well. lol
Indeed. The Polish version of Cyberpunk 2077 used AI to replicate one of the voice actors who passed away after getting the approval from his family so there's always that possibility. The problem with the hiring process these days is that it's too political and they tend to go for biggest names rather than the most fitting talent.
As for Tony Jay, I was still relatively young when he passed so I wasn't aware at the time nor did I know him by name or anything. I just know he had a major impact in my childhood because The Hunchback of Notre Dame was actually one of the first few movies I saw in the cinema when I first migrated in the UK. It left a huge impact on me and it's probably where I developed my love for great storytelling. Just rewatched the movie recently for the first time as an adult and loved it. He absolutely nailed his role. I have a feeling I'll be blown away by all the the other voice talents in the LoK games so I'm looking forward to that.
Here's a fun fact: I used to live in the same town where Tony Jay grew up (Pinner) but still live relatively close to it. A pleasant, quiet and posh area which is unfortunately becoming tainted now with violent crimes. Still a better place to live than most areas in London.

Crystal dynamic should stick to this game instead of ruining tomb raider.
That may explain why the first title has been made unavailable for purchase on Steam and GOG for while now. But not really since the second game can be purchased just fine. Never played these games beyond the demo disc of the first SR on the PS1 as a kid and I remember it creeping me the hell out despite playing it over and over again lol.
They don't make games like this any more which is a total shame. Scorn is probably the closest we've ever gotten to in terms of aesthetics.
These games look very dated now. I don't think a remaster would do many favours. Full-on remakes would be lovely though as there are not many games these days in this genre; perhaps the Darksiders games are as close as it gets.
They cannot make any remake today for Legacy of Kain saga,because Raziel is not black and Kain is not gay.
As a matter of fact,Legacy of Kain games are pure masterclass in creative choice for vampire lore, also some voice actors are gone.
But since 2003 after the end of LoK Defiance i wait for a sequel or something.

This is definitely cool news, but why not give Legacy of Kain: Defiance some remaster love as well?
Yes,and call it Legacy of Kain Trilogy.
Soul reaver 1,2 and defiance are base story arc.
Blood Omen 1 and 2 are prequels to soul reaver's and defince represents finale of Raziel's trial,becoming right hand of Kain.
Shame this series was forgotten.

I prefer the Kain games over Raziels but this is a good news.
I used to be in favor of Remasters just being 1 to 1 copies with upgraded graphics.
After playing Tomb Raider remastered, I realised my rose-tinted glasses forgot how horrible (the old and new) controls and camera are.
So I changed my mind, Remasters should be as close to the original gameplay-wise, BUT they should include fixes to gameplay where necessary.
I am also not against games having difficulty settings added to them, some old games are just purposely difficult because they're straight up arcade copies where the goal was to get as many coins out of people as possible.

Wow! 😀 this is a good news… It's about time, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver is a masterpiece, i really hope this remastered version worth the wait. Specially if they add the cut contents.
It says Remastered in the signs, so that's abundantly clear what they are.
But i get you, these could use thorough remasters like the Tomb Raider collection, or straight up remakes.

I would've preferred a ground-up remake, but I guess they'll just upscale to 4K textures. however when I filled in the questionnaire I specifically said that I'd prefer a remake over a remaster because of how good this series is, to keep the original story in tact and voice actors, just the world needs to be remade. that was my two cents for Crystal Dynamics. I just hope that they don't screw around with characters, knowing the state of the world we live in today…. Even a remaster that is fully untouched seems to be a dream scenario nowadays.
What I want from current Eidos-Crystal,
Third part in Deus Ex's Adam Jensen's prequel story and link to JC Denton's time period.
1:1 remake of Deus Ex 1 and a improved remake of Invisible War.
And then third part in JC Denton's timeline.
One new Tomb Raider, thats it. We got enough of 'em.
1:1 remake of the first 3 Thief games and then a new sequel, learning from Arkane and omitting the reboot.
Remake first three Legacy of Kain games, or remake first and remaster the next two
and then make whole new sequel(s) for the series.

nowadays i can only play a game for 20 minutes before i get bored and uninstall it to install one random game from my Steam library only to play it for arround 20 minutes and repeat the process..
Why port two trash games ?
