Things are not looking good for Konami and FOX Engine fans, as the Konami’s worldwide technology director Julien Merceron has left the company. Not only that, about according to the latest reports, Konami has ceased all triple-A games development for consoles and PC.
Metal Gear Online fans, fear not as that particular mode has not been cancelled. Metal Gear Online is still under development and will be coming to the PC this January.
Moreover, Konami will also keep developing games for its PES series (in fact, it’s the only series that’s not affected by Konami’s decision to cease triple-A games development). Whether this is good or bad news for PC gamers – especially after those weird hybrid versions of PES 2015 and PES 2016 – remains to be seen).
As Gameblog claimed, Konami will be now focusing on mobile games and pachinkos

While he is a die-hard PC gamer, his gaming roots can be found on consoles. John loved – and still does – the 16-bit consoles, and considers SNES to be one of the best consoles. Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2. Konami, PLEASE sell Metal Gear if you are abandoning your AAA game division. Also, sell off the Fox engine as well.
But those Metal Gear pachinko machines are going to sell superbly, right next to the Castlevania and Silent Hill ones.
no. i want MGS6 pachinko edition.
What makes me most upset about Konami’s situation is we’ll probably never see Silent Hill 2-4 on digital distribution. What a shame such awesome games are gonna get relegated to abandonware.
Its time Japanese Developers/Publishers realize they cannot compete with Western Publishers unless they fully support the PC Platform because console gaming is not the most populated or biggest money maker anymore. PC and Mobile gaming is where most of the gamers are. Hardcore gamers are mostly on PC and casual gamers are mostly on mobile. Console gaming is the middle ground that is being crushed from both sides and I don’t see it having a future beyond this gen unless they become more PC like with upgradeable hardware components.
Consolses will become pc like in less than 2 months with Steam Machine release. The future of pc and console is Steam machine a machine that will be both a pc and console.
Again with this “steam machines will be the next consoles” joke? Give it a rest guys…he had our fare share of laughter on reddit PCMR…move on pls
Future is only PC. That includes Alienware PC, Steam Machine PC, custom built PC, every type of PC.
So true. This is what happens when a stagnant platform like the consoles try to compete with gaming platforms that evolve every 1.5-2 years or so…it’s just going to get pwned and old by the time it reaches it’s supposed midlife cycle.
Glad Konami pulled the plug…and here’s hoping for a trend start for the rest of the gaming industry:
Either develop/innovate for PC or GTFO on mobile land.
you must have serious problems bro, seriously…
Yet Kojima Productions Set a Giant Bar for Western Developers to meet when it comes to PC optimization. Since the Majority of them can’t Optimize for PC hardware and they been making PC games for how many years? And yet Kojima Productions comes in and smashes the Industry.
If only Konami agreed with Kojima’s Ideals.
It feels like they ceased game development before they finished MGSV, second part of the game is a mess.
I agree it’s filled to the brim with filler missions from chapter 1, it is evident that it was rushed to meet a deadline.
Honestly, MGS franchise got crap after MGS4.
Wasn’t MGS4 sh*t?
MGS4 was crap, at least in TPP you see some gameplay, repetitive but still
TPP is too repetitve, it became boring after I liberated the outpost for the 3409342th time to clear a side op.
I like the map design, the locations, but feel that a “major” onsite camp, like kiba camp, airport, should be only used once as a mission. It becomes boring after the 3rd time you do a different mission in the exact same area.
yeah, game took it’s replay value too seriously and force people to replay the same mission on the same location with the same objective over and over again. liberate a camp then 5min later it’s in enemy’s hands again 😀
the least they could do was to not call it chapter 2. they could call it for what it was…the scattered “aftermath” of what happened after Skullface. otherwise what kind of story ends in it’s chapter 2….
I felt the story is about the get started in mission 30 and then stuff happened, and i was like” Wait, what?, thats it?”

I read somewhere that there’s supposed to be a chapter 3 but I guess the conflict got between and got cancelled
Well, even chapter 2 is barely there, it contains missions from chapter 1, but on hard difficulty.
No, I meant story wise. Many fans are saying MGS V ended abruptly and many questions are left unanswered that’s meant to connect to the timeline (though I have no idea coz I’ve only played MGS V). Maybe even a third area was meant to be created 0_0?
From what I’ve noticed from official gameplay videos, there was going to be 3rd big area apart from Afghanistan and Africa. Was surprised to see there weren’t more than two.
NO NO NO!!!!! END OF AAAA GAMES?! So then no more MGS and Castlevania games?! Konami sell them to another company and not turn them into crap tablet games!
It’s been years since the last “true” Castlevania game. It should’ve told you something when Koji Igarashi had to make his own Kickstarter for a spiritual successor.
without Kojima i assume MGS VI would turned out to be just a tweaked version of MGS V with weaker story so we should be glad. they are probably gonna use the IP for mobile gaming though somehow.
as for Castlevania…just look forward to bloodstained, the kickstarted game. that’s the best we can get i assume.
Sell of your castlevania games to someone who cares(you know who), the other games ran long enough, most of them are not what they once was so I no longer care.
We pc and console gamers must join forces together and tell konami to sell metal gear and castlevania o western developers!!! It is the only way to save the francices from extiction!!
”
konami to sell metal gear and castlevania o western developers!!
Nah… Metal Gear belongs to japaneses devs.
But it is the only way to save the gsames! No one wants them to be turned into mobile games. So what the point of keeeping them when they are not going to make new games of them? Both are AAA games that people play and on pc and consoles. When THQ shutdown their sold their games to others developers konami can do the same. There is LOT of rage and ANGER agaisnt konami after this news in all big gaming sites i see
with MGS they can use it to lure casuals into some mobile games, but doubt Castlevania is for casuals so it’s basically useless to them. non casuals usually know better to stay away from these types of mobile games.
if they are looking to cash in quickly, they should just sell Castlevania to it’s owner….let him call his new game what it is. he might not have the money though lol.
I think Metal Gear IS Metal Gear because of Hideo’s touch. An MGS without Hideo’s touch wouldn’t be MGS
Sad really. It’s the end of an era.
Damn looks so fugly on PS4.
well MGS V is really the last MGS game then. glad it came to PC where it also belongs. phenomenal gameplay, meh open world, great soundtracks, great graphics, highly optimized, good yet sparse story, bad ending which i blame both Konami and Kojima. i blame Konami for cutting edges and i blame Kojima for not being smarter with what he had. reading all the justifications fans come up with for the ending makes me wish he could at least come up with one of them himself when he had the chance and focus on it more.
what i will miss the most is…the Fox Engine….
That’s a real fuc*ing shame. MGS V was a great game 🙁
Come on guys, we all knew this was coming.
I just wonder what’s going to happen to the FOX engine, if Kojima is really in bad terms with Konami I imagine they won’t let him take the engine with him, but Konami doesn’t plan to do anything with it either.
See this post: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1107626 Maybe it’s not bad news for the PC…
technically Skull Face is responsible for the creation of the Phantom Pain. that’s why even the Medic dude kept seeing a Phantom of Paz around the mother base, since he is feeling the pain even as a Phantom himself….which is also resulted thanks to what Skull Face did. PhantomCeption.
basically, story-wise Skull Face already did his damage in Ground Zeroes even though he had his own plans with Parasites (also known as the Nano machines of MGS V…stupid). the only thing that was left to do was to stop him from going further. even Skullface himself said he knew he is ****ed. Zero made sure no trace of him was left in the history, so he did all that as a payback.
spoilers:
i think the idea behind the ending was, to make us feel how manipulative Big Boss has become by actually trolling us. however there wasn’t enough development behind it so it failed.
the least Kojima could do was to let go of MGS 1 and let the Phantom medic to be really a phantom…a guy lost in history. the one responsible for all the good deeds done in the name of Big Boss while Big Boss himself turns more and more corrupted, starting by manipulating us among other things he did.
I can’t really see BB as an evil character, in one of the tapes its mentioned that medic shielded BB from the blast, so he was ready to die for him. In the ending we can see how medic gets the briefing about the story of MG1, so i think he is not against playing the BB.
it’s not just mentioned. they literally showed the medic shielding BB and he smiled too when he heard about the truth.(he also got angry too though). he was also never against playing as BB. that’s the whole reason the Phantom plan worked. he unconsciously wanted it so he believed it rather easily. inevitably though, when he heard about the truth he wanted to be separated from the real BB thanks to all that happened and Kaz tells him that in the end there has to be one BB.
as for BB, he is not suppose to be a totally Evil character and imagining him otherwise considering the lack of needed development is not the best option but doing so is still better than the actual ending…which is my point. that’s how i feel anyway.
while the actual ending filled a hole from MGS 1, it made the whole MGS V experience feel empty in return. Diamond Dogs, Quiet etc…all were there in order for the Medic to get angry and turn evil….and then die in MGS 1…..they could even use something stupid similar to parasites to explain MGS 1’s ending without wasting their time with MGS V and nobody would care. the result would nearly be the same…
So this is it: no more Metal Gear Solid series.
Kojima out,Tech Director out,whos next?
Things are not looking bad for Konami, afaik they are making more money than ever. It’s just not in video games.
Japanese Developers are fine. Western Developers are not taking over the Japanese market.
PC is not taking over the PS4 and other Markets.
let’s learn the Game Business.
http://www.gamasutra.com
Should make for an interesting jimquistion video.
well, it’s a good news. he now is a free man
I think there is a common mistake, those are kojima fans, none are konami fans. So it is ok if konami is down lol
F’ KONAMI, MAY THEY BURN TO THE GROUND AND GO OUT OF BUSINESS
He destroyed MSF.
So they know no one will care about their future MGS games? I think Konami can be forgiven if they make a AAA MGS featuring The Boss in WW2, but at the same time I must be expecting too much.
Fox Engine is truly state of the art. Shame that it won’t be used in other big projects.
