Kingmakers feature

Kingmakers, the action/strategy sandbox game with thousands of enemies on screen, has been indefinitely delayed

Redemption Road has announced that Kingmakers, its action/strategy sandbox game with thousands of enemies on screen, has been delayed indefinitely. The game was supposed to launch on Steam Early Access on October 8th, but at the last minute, the release was pushed back. Right now, there is no new release date.

The devs stated that this delay is so that they can further optimize the game. Kingmakers will have A LOT of enemies on screen. The team aims to push Unreal Engine 4 to its limits. And, instead of relying on Frame Gen and other techniques, it wants to provide a 60FPS experience, even on mid-tier PCs.

In Kingmakers, players will travel back 500 years, to medieval England, in order to change the course of a bloody war. The big feature of this game is that it can push thousands of enemies on screen. Not only that, but you can use modern weapons to kill your enemies. So, for instance, you can use an AK-47 to shoot knights. Or you can use grenades and rocket launchers to wreak havoc on the battlefield.

As the devs have noted, every soldier on the battlefield is controlled by a next-gen multi-threaded AI that controls their decision-making, pathfinding, and loyalty. This, combined with a unique procedural animation system, will allow Kingmakers to offer an unprecedented level of character and combat fidelity.

In Kingmakers, you can easily switch between two different ways of playing — fighting in the middle of the action or giving orders like a commander. This switch happens in real time, which means you don’t have to pause or stop the game to do it. It’s smooth and fast, so you can control the battle your way.

If you enjoy being in the action, you can grab your weapons and fight on the front lines. You can run, shoot, drive vehicles, and help your team by taking out enemies directly. But if you prefer to lead from above, you can zoom out and command your army like a general.

You can tell your soldiers where to go, whom to attack, or when to defend. The game gives you control over many types of fighters, like archers, swordsmen, spearmen, and cavalry. That means you can mix and match your army based on the situation. Need long-range attacks? Send in the archers. Want a strong charge? Call in the cavalry.

You can also build defenses, such as walls or barriers, to help protect your team. Planning your moves is a big part of the game, and you’ll need to think smart to win big battles. If you don’t want to control everything, the game’s smart AI can take over some parts for you. That way, you can focus on the parts of the game you enjoy most — either fighting or leading.

Now I know what some will say. “This is a scam.” Well, that’s inaccurate. I mean, you can’t even pre-order it on Steam. And I know. Some are definitely frustrated by its constant delays. But hey, at least they are not taking your money like some other companies do.

Stay tuned for more!

  1. Bummer, as I was looking forward to the performance on the Steam Deck, since they claimed it already works decently on their DF interview a while back.

Oh well, by the time it enters Early Access, SteamOS 3.8 should be out the door, which is going to be another nice incremental upgrade, as always…

  2. ". And, instead of relying on Frame Gen and other techniques, it wants to provide a 60FPS experience, even on mid-tier PCs."

just use LODs instead of nanite.

Also a bunch of other indie games were supposed to come out on October and were delayed.

  3. Cool concept but looks and plays like a tech/concept demo, not a full fledged game. I enjoyed Road Redemption even tough it got similar issues.

      1. You are too illiterate for sarcasm. I said it “looks like”, and also based my opinion on a previous game made by then, which is full of roguelite stuff and procedurally generated stuff (for a racing game).

        1. You said "Looks AND PLAYS like". It's literally the post above mine, and you wrote it. Don't call people illiterate when you can't be bothered to read five words into your own sentences.

          1. You can have an idea of how it will plays based on how it looks. This is not cgi bruh, now stop being dense.

  4. This is really interesting, You’re a very skilled blogger. I’ve joined your feed and look forward to seeking more of your magnificent post. Also, I’ve shared your site in my social networks!

  5. Props for the dev, they actually care about optimization. Can't say the same for many other devs. I rather they spend their time and release a good game. Then a broken unoptimized mess.
