I Am Setsuna, JRPG with a battle system inspired by Chrono Trigger, is now available on Steam

Square Enix has announced that the debut title from Tokyo RPG Factory, I Am Setsuna, is now available on Steam. I Am Setsuna promises to deliver an emotional and unforgettable story of bravery and sacrifice, along with beautiful art design and masterful character development.

The game follows the story of Setsuna, a young woman of incredible power and inner strength, on her journey of sacrifice to save the people of her land.

“The word “setsuna,” derived from the Japanese “setsunai,” conveys bittersweet sorrow and serves as the foundational theme of the game. The aim of the development team was to help global audiences better understand this concept through the fullness of the game.”

I Am Setsuna promises to offer beautiful art and game design that harken back to Japanese role-playing game classics of yesteryear, and includes various features inspired by legendary titles from the golden era of JRPGs.

Enjoy!

  1. All that fluff in the title -.-

Anyway, was planning to get into JRPGs again, it’s been awhile. Not going to be with this one though, too fluffy -.-

    1. They got me with the Chrono Trigger inspiration. Chrono Trigger was singularly responsible for making me think I liked Jrpgs for years, when in fact I just really liked Chrono Trigger lol.
…so many jrpg purchases that I never finished sigh… Never beat a FF game, honestly outside of CT, the only other JRPG that I really got into was Lost Odyssey.
Whelp that got the $40 from me, so I’ll check out if Setsuna is actually any good or not

      1. I don’t remember ever finishing one lol (well aside from one or two Pokemon games), but the ones I was really hooked where Chrono Trigger, Tales of Phantasia on SNES and Breath of Fire IV on PSX (this one I got really close to finish). Tried a lot of SNES and PS1 ones but by the time I got a PS2 I was already into the modern action/RPG and hack/slash battles so it’s hard to go back to the methodical turn based. I blame this on being a fan of Zelda games. 😐

        1. Well finally got a minute to try I am Setsuna, people are right, its basically Chrono Trigger set in a Game of Thrones winter lol. The battle system feels exactly the same as CT’s active time battle, right down to many of the techs having the same names as those in CT, and strategies like double/triple combos of tecs is torn right from the CT playbook. Graphically its pretty looking and what I’d wanted Chrono Trigger sequal to have looked like more so than Chrono Cross.
I’m definitly more of a Western Rpg player, I cut my teeth on Bioware games like DA:Origins and the Mass Effect series before jumping into Witcher 2/3. But I will say I am enjoying I am Setsuna immensly so far.

        1. Woah, you are absolutely right, finally had the time to sit down and try this one out, when you learn the first tech and its the Cyclone spin from CT I knew this game was in good hands

  2. I was very excited a while ago, but I decided not to buy the game after the short lenght, incomplete features and bugs reports.
