Half-Life 3 fan demo, Project Borealis, releases on November 11th

The team behind the upcoming Half Life 3 fan game, Project Borealis, announced that its Prologue will come out on November 11th. To celebrate this announcement, the team also shared a new trailer that you can find below.

Project Borealis is a fan-made project inspired by the huge cliffhanger from Half-Life 2: Episode Two. This prologue chapter will let players step back into the HEV suit of Gordon Freeman, and offer a glimpse into the next chapter of his journey.

Players will explore a Ravenholm that has changed over time and been affected by nature. While moving through this eerie place, they will face familiar enemies that have been reimagined. They will also find new secrets hidden within.

Project Borealis will be powered by Unreal Engine 5, and not by the Source Engine. In other words, we’re looking at a completely standalone free HL game. The team also promises to faithfully recreate the Half-Life 2 movement and gameplay mechanics in UE5. So, it will be interesting to see whether or not they’ll be able to achieve this.

To be honest, I can’t wait to get my hands on it. We might not ever get the full version of it but at least we’ll get a playable demo. And, since we won’t have a new HL game anytime soon, I’m really looking forward to it.

Just make sure to temper your expectations. After all, this is a mod and not a full-fledged game. Still, it’s better than nothing.

Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

  1. It has been what feels like an eternity since the "Half-Life 3 Confirmed" meme was a thing, I doubt anyone still cares about Half-Life 3 by now, even after Alyx was released.

And it has been what almost feels like an eternity since this was announced to the point that I thought the project was silently cancelled or something, I guess after all of these years it will finally rele… wait,

    "Prologue"

…….yyyyyeeeeaaah it will never be finished.

      1. You are going to be disappointed bro, mark my words 2026 is the year of Valve. The next Half-Life game is on the work, and it's going to change the industry.

      2. I stopped caring about Half-Life a long time ago too. I'm just thankful that we have great games built on the Source engine that existed and more still get made even to this very day because of it, namely ones like Garry's Mod with its infinite replay value.

  2. It's the Prologue, not the entire Project Borealis game, dude it's on the name of the video, in the video itself and the Steam page, c'mon…

  3. Theres such an audience/fandom for this series that 20 years after release FANs are still making content, meanwhile Valve (with their African nations GDP wealth) are instead making F2P slop to make even more $$$. It saddens me to see how valve has WASTED their once in a generation wealth(and being privately held too), meanwhile starving Asian/Indie Devs have to sell their souls to make their dream Art.
