Hero has released a playable demo of his upcoming 3D Sonic game in Unity Engine, Sonic – Project Hero. Sonic – Project Hero aims to launch Sonic, Tails & Knuckles into, simply, a fun three dimensional adventure through various locales, to stop Dr. Eggman’s new scheme.
The game aims to introduce new and unique mechanics and mix-n’-match existing ones from the Sonic series, in order to create a fresh experience.
Do note that this demo is a prototype version of the game. As such, you should all temper your expectations. Still, the demo features all of the core gameplay elements. Therefore, it will at least give you an idea of what Hero aims to achieve.
In the demo, you can assume the role of Sonic, Tails or Knuckles. You can also explore an environment, collect rings and fight some enemies.
You can download the Windows demo from here, and the Mac demo from here.
Lastly, Hero released a new video for the demo of Sonic – Project Hero. This video is ideal for those that don’t want to download the demo, but are still interested in the project.
Have fun!

Another fangame announced before it’s finished, it’s as if every fangame dev wants to get their project C&D’d into oblivion. More like Sonic Project An Hero.
TBF, Sega has a long history of letting Sonic fan games slide.
I really like what’s on show here in terms of physics, momentum and character abilities, but I suspect there’s a reason why 3D Sonic games have linear paths: trying to navigate towards a goal in an open 3D space is difficult to do (especially at speed).
There are two choices I see around that i. make it a collectathon with collectibles in places that require mastery of the game to reach or ii. have waypoint markers in the direction of the next checkpoint.

SURPRISE BUTTS3X
I miss playing Sonic on my Mega Drive, but this one is just garbage!
I mean it looks nice but ….
How many 3D fan games have a demo and never go anywhere despite praise?
This looks FANTASTIC.
