Forza Horizon 3 has sold 2.5 million units

Microsoft has announced that Forza Horizon 3 has sold 2.5 units worldwide. Forza Horizon 3 is an Xbox Play Anywhere title, meaning that those sales numbers are for both the Xbox One and the PC platforms.

As Microsoft stated:

“As of December, more than 14 million unique players were involved in the Forza community on Xbox One and Windows 10, the award-winning Forza Horizon 3 sold through 2.5 million units”

Furthermore, Microsoft revealed that over three million players joined them online each month.

It’s just sad that the PC version of Forza Horizon 3 was never fixed. The game still suffers from major stutters and underwhelming performance due to its single-thread CPU issues.

      1. GTX 1070 running this game sub par 60 fps, meanwhile Forza Apex running cleanly over 100fps. It was a bad port, graphics are crap, can’t even tell if it’s stuttering or the game engine’s to stupid to contemplate non 30fps performance.

        specs i5 3570k stock
        16gb ram 2400mhz

        1. You can’t compare it to Forza Apex though. Forza 6 runs at 60fps on Xbone, and it isn’t demanding as FH3 on max settings.

      2. They launched it as a mess on PC and never did any real fixing via patches now they are just pumping out DLC and ignoring the complains about the performance on PC. Any developer who does that doesn’t deserve sales.

  1. So Microsoft are in effect boasting of all the money they’ve made from selling this product while never having bothered to fix its problems on PC despite them trying to convince us with PR statement of them taking PC gaming seriously now? smh

Oh, and that’s without even factoring in how they prioritised the Xbox version ahead of the PC version with when the demo was released plus that of some DLC having been reserved exclusively for Xbox owners.

On the plus side, it’s great that Microsoft treated PC gamers as second class citizens once more because the lack of respect shown to us will hopefully deter folk from buying in to the anti-consumer UWP model and its godawful Windows 10 Store.

      1. I don’t know if they promised to fix it. Either way they still have not fixed many if any of the performance issues.

  2. Hopefully they will fix this game eventually. Even on a 1080 I have problems with the game. The latest patch dropped my performance even more. I have everything pretty much on Ultra, turned off AA and DSR from 4K to 1080p. Even if I run the game at a straight 1080p it still has almost the same performance as 4k.

  3. Best racing game I ever played including sim racing hands down. I never had an issue with stuttering since day one with the game even running at 4k (High settings then eventually to Ultra). I dont have a 4 core machine tho. I have a 6800k and 1080GTX and the game always ran better and better each patch. I now can play at 5k DSR Ultra @ 60fps. In 4k Ultra settings, Fxaa off and MSAA 8x, 16AF, The game runs closer to 70fps. But if graphics are the main concern for people, it hasnt been for me. TBH, the wheel support for anything but a Thrustmaster T500 is somewhat an issue to me. I just upgraded from my G920, then tried the G29 (which was a better feeling wheel) then to the almighty and most very tunable and amazing FFB wheel the T500. It’s like night and day difference. What I am concerned about is, the difference in wheel settings and how they work. It’s really interesting learning about the dynamics of these settings. I spent lots of time learning what they do, and although with the latest patches giving us more features, (now there is more wheel settings and graphic settings to tweak with) I feel this is an area they can improve alot more with. Also too, no one seems to give credit to thier awesome servers! I live in California and play people in Europe without Lag on a satelitte connection! Thats really something to be said as even BF4 cant do that! I think this is one of the best games ever as far as tecnique is concerned.

  4. More fleecing of suckers who refuse to learn from history and think that MS actually cares about PC Gaming. How to know MS actually cares. UWP gets removed. DX 12 is opened up so that the people who make things like Reshade/SweetFX give a single @$%# about the API.

MS either sabotaged Forza Horizons 3 so that 60 FPS was not easily achievable (it should be, just like Witcher 3 can do 60 in a 30 FPS game that is truly CPU bound) or UWP just kills performance on CPU, which very might well be the case seeing even AMD performs the exact same in Quantum Break DX 11 and UWP and AMD DX 11 drivers are getting better but still way behind Nvidia. Either are not acceptable and if you support UWP/MS after this you are part of the problem.

DX 12 without SMAA reshade injection is USELESS. Injected SMAA looks stupidly good and cost near NOTHING on performance. You are talking about jagged trees in Witcher 3 vs no jagged trees with a 1-2 FPS difference with the only other option being downsampling which is like 20. The performance gains you get in DX 12 are massacred when in game AA comes into the equation and DX 12 is such a %#$$ show that the maker of reshade refuses to even use Windows 10, let alone do anything with DX 12.

You are better off running every DX 12 game in DX 11 with reshade vs the in game AA or in addition to it if it is temporal, even on AMD GPU’s. Vulkan API needs to be adopted because DX 12 is a walled garden nightmare that will only get worse with time due to UWP.

  5. “The game still suffers from major stutters and underwhelming performance due to its single-thread CPU issues”… smh. This is BS. I have 3 different “gaming class” PC’s in my house and the game runs perfectly fine on each one. My main system runs the game flawlessly at 4K Ultra Settings at a vsynced 60fps. My two others systems run 1080p on High setting at a flawless 60fps vsynced… Again, you need to run the game on more then your two setups before you tell everyone “The game still suffers from major stutters and underwhelming performance due to its single-thread CPU issues”… It’s simply not the case. And besides that, the game on the XBOX ONE is running at 1080p@30fps on about “High Settings” and the PC can easily reproduce those results. And at that, the game is excellent at those settings, it’s very playable even at 30fps. The fact that on PC you can push through those settings for a better experience is just a major plus. Do I agree that the heavily loaded first core is an issue? Yes. But it doesn’t make the game an unplayable mess that your articles makes it out to be… That’s a fact. I am including a screen-grab from playing the game on “windowed/1080p/High Settings/60fps vync” with afterburners graph running beside it (that was about 5 mins a game-play). You can see that on high settings the 1st core being maxed issue doesn’t even happen (the blip at the end there is when i hit “Print Screen” and it obviously effected something…) . You can even see that I had other programs running in the background like Chrome and I still didn’t have the issue. The frame rate was locked to 60fps and that was all in the “Surfers Paradise” downtown area.

    1. The screengrab you just posted shows the game has CPU optimization as bad as DX 9 titles. When you are at 94 percent on one core the second you have heavy load the game will stutter. Do you think game runs similar on the Xbox One with it’s pathetic 1.7 ghz AMD CPU? Also the “it runs 30 on Xbox” excuse is ridiculous when we have games like Witcher 3 that care barely do 30 FPS on consoles with a NPC population in Novigrad below the lowest settings on PC, while 60 with much higher NPC population is a breeze for out much more powerful CPU’s.

Take a pick. MS either sabotaged the game as far as CPU threading or UWP is the cause in which case all CPU bound titles will suck on UWP. I am betting on the latter and that is probably why they made “game mode” to begin with. Too bad game mode does jack. Barnacules who worked at MS said UWP was more like emulation. Emulation has a performance cost.

      1. Like I said that was due to me pressing a button on my keyboard to take the screen grab. The game did NOT run at 94% while playing… Look again… It averages around 55%.

          1. Listen I am not lying. The game doesn’t load the first core on high settings. And even on Ultra the first core being heavily loaded is due to the “static geometry” option. That graph on that screen grab shows 5mins a game-play. The spike is literally for like one second at the end. I don’t understand how you can’t see that.

          2. You are saying everyone else is lying while giving empirical proof you are lying, while the game is a total ##%# show as evident by the games own PC forums. Crashes on Nvidia, CPU optimization, etc.

          3. You know what, I am done discussing this with you. You are obviously not interested in facts. You seem to be solely interested in ridiculous nonsense. I am absolutely not lying and ANYONE with the game can run the same tests I did and get the same results. Like I said I have 3 gaming PC’s in my house and I get the same results every time. You have issue my friend.. To be so intent on vilifying Microsoft to blind yourself to the facts is really sad. And In regards to the game on PC… I agree it’s not perfect but it is far, FAR from ” a total ##%# show”.

          4. No I am not interested in talking with Microsoft astroturfers/shareholders. Glad you figured that out. Astroturfing is a crime btw. The fine costs much more than all your PC’s combined per instance .Astroturfing is not going to work on PC Gamer’s MS. We are not console gamers. Want us to use your store? Remove UWP. Want us to care about DX 12? Open it up so people like the creator of Reshade support it. Or don’t. The Xbox division is failing and PC Gamer’s will not be used by you to try and save it. Gaming will be better without you and we will dance on your grave. All you have given the world is Forza and we do not even need that anymore since your ports are garbage, UWP is garbage and we have Project Cars 2 coming.

MS abandoned PC when they closed down Ensemble and they have shown nothing that makes anyone with half a brain think they care about PC Gaming other than using them to further standards or monopolies and removing things we already have. Case in point. Halo Wars 2 was designed around a console controller. It will be a massive failure due to this, just like the last game the exact same studio tried that targeted a console controller on a RTS called Stormrise. Incidentally that was the last time MS pretended to care about PC Gaming with Games for Windows Live and Vista.

Same old @!$% just a different year.

          5. I can verify what Kristopher is saying to be true. All of this protection is to protect xbox kids you know that right? There is another layer running in the background and that security software almost requires broadwell E Cpus in order to perform right. Say what you will but Microsoft is removing walls and adding security to a new universe of gaming. Unfortunately, it requires brute force to work cleanly. Give them some time, what your describing is far far from reality.

    2. Okay I have now included a screen grab of the game on Ultra Setting and in 4K with the same Afterburner graph included. The section with the two red arrows is 4K Ultra Settings (both test have the dynamic scaling option off). The section with the two blue arrows is 4K Ultra but with “Static Geometry” set to Medium instead of high (when Ulttra is selected “high” is the highest setting for “static geometry”). You can see that when Ultra is selected the 1st core is maxed (again in the surfers paradise section of the game, the most demanding) but when you simply knock the “static geometry” setting down one level to medium the 1st core maxed issue goes away. I haven’t been able to see a difference in the quality of anything when adjusting this setting. I’m sure there is a difference but it certainly isn’t easily apparent. Especially in motion… But even still the game for me maintains 60fps regardless (I will admit that in Surfers Paradise that the frame-rate will drop to a low of 55fps for small periods. But it does NOT with “static geometry” set to medium). Anyways there it is…
