Square Enix announced that FINAL FANTASY XIV has more than 10 million cumulative players (including free trial accounts) as of today. Today’s announcement follows the release of the most recent expansion, FINAL FANTASY XIV: Stormblood, which expands in-game content with two new playable jobs, an increased level cap, and a storyline that takes players to previously unexplored lands.
As the press release reads, content patches following launch also brought the inclusion of high-level raids, enhancements to player jobs, and a number of other new features.
Additionally, this milestone coincides with the release of Patch 4.06 and the start of the annual Moonfire Faire seasonal event. Players can take part in an all-new series of quests, including facing off against Ultros and his uncontrollable tentacles. Triumphant adventurers can obtain event items to ring in the celebrations, including a dyeable Faire version of a popular set of equipment.
In case you weren’t aware of, there is still a FINAL FANTASY XIV Free Trial for you to try. The free trial allows anyone to access all available content up to level 35, create up to eight playable characters, and experience the different playable races, classes, and jobs with no restrictions on playtime. New players who wish to experience the free trial may register at the game’s official website.

one of the good mmos actually , but the problem is till you rech the end you need alot of time and alot of questing .. and the PVP kinda sucks .
THats the only reason i left the game, I loved it tho but basically no pvp is a no no for me at least.. Great MMO otherwise tho.
It seems to have caught up with WoW now. All they need to do is keep up with the expansions. Don’t pull a Blizzard and make people wait for years for 2 months worth of content.
Caught up? Not even close. These are just 10 million accounts, even I am counted into it because I have a free trial account, but I’ve never even played the game. Who knows if even a third of those are active monthly subscribers.
eh ? It has always been out on PC. In fact it was at first only on PC.
I’m not arguing that WoW is as huge as it was during WotK, but it’s still by far the most popular subscription-based MMO out there.
Don’t be fooled by this “10 millions” figure that Square is giving out, it’s just meaningless, it even counts people who tried FFXIV once years ago and never touched it since.
I know, but WoW over the years has been weakening. The fact that they stopped giving out numbers 2 years ago was to keep investors happy, because any investor would loathe to hear that the game/company they were investing in was to lose millions of consumers over the course of a few months.
FF XIV is still growing, while WoW has to shorten it’s expansion dev cycle by at least a year, while SE can comfortably sit at a near 2 year dev cycle, WoW doesn’t have the luxury to sit back anymore.
there is always some douchebag in the comment section that likes to downplay good news.
