Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2. FEAR 1, the unrivaled master of first person shootouts. The weaponry and the stellar AI have no peer to this day. A shame really that producers drifted away from solid gameplay and instead start selling people trash like this Order 1866 or whatever is called, which is a series of cutscenes with QTE’s from time to time.
We went backwards. With FEAR they wanted us gamers to experience what it really feels to fights against a special forces unit. Now they want to show us how some people talk in a series of cutscenes.
It’s what the kids and ‘casual gamers’ want, so it’s what the devs churn out. If you like RPGs you’re in luck, Kickstarter keeps providing quality stuff. But if you prefer FPS you’re screwed.
Agreed!
FEAR is a very special game…a true masterpiece in the FPS genre!
Those people at GOG are doing god’s work.

The problem with the MK collection here is it’s the DOS ports which don’t have great joystick support because of limitations at the time… that being 4 button gravis pads and there wasn’t a way to hook up two at the time. Granted you could use keyboard emulation but the support in the arcade kollection was better.
The one thing I’ll hand to them is they released this on more than just Windows.
Also, the graphics where slightly degraded from the arcade. Still better than the 16-bit versions at the time. They had to reduce the colors to fit the VGA palette in these games and there’s some bugs introduced in general.
