Divinity: Original Sin II – Coming To Kickstarter On August 26th, Prototype Will Be Playable At PAX Prime

Larian Studios today announced its sequel to Divinity: Original Sin, Divinity: Original Sin II. Divinity: Original Sin II is described as Larian’s most ambitious RPG ever, and Larian Studios will launch a Kickstarter campaign for it on August 26th.

A prototype of Divinity: Original Sin II will also be playable at PAX Prime, highlighting some of the game’s unique features.

In addition to being among the first to go hands-on with Larian Studio’s upcoming RPG, attendees will have the chance to meet the developers and win (some very cool) prizes.

Larian Studios’ founder, Swen Vincke, said:

“Divinity: Original Sin wouldn’t be the game it was without the input from our Kickstarter backers & Steam Early Access players. There were a lot of them and they pushed us forwards in directions we hadn’t anticipated when we started development. To this day, our entire team is incredibly grateful for this. Our community was a critical factor for the success of the game. Without having that same community on board, I think it’s going to be very hard for us to achieve the goals we have with Divinity: Original Sin 2, and so we’ll do our very best to convince them to back us once again. The result at the end will be so much better if they do.”

Stay tuned for more!

  1. now that they got money, let’s hope they don’t start consolizing their games. that’s usually the case: companies usually start to get rich thanks to PC gamers, then they start consolizing to get into “mainstream”.

  2. I still have to play the first and wasteland 2 😀 i love these kind of games but maybe we’re going a bit too fast here, they’re coming out like mushrooms.

      1. that’s why i didn’t play wasteland 2 yet, there is one planned for divinity as well?
Edit: just checked…..Ah well guess gonna play them next summer then 😀

        1. both coming this year i guess but next summer you can add “Torment: Tides of Numenera” to the list too 😀 pillars of eternity is also great if you didn’t played it, i recommend it too.

  3. i don’t quite like it. it’s more of the same. they should not be doing like what Activision or Ubisoft doing with “franchise fatique”. I had rather they work on something completely different. They are just wanting to be “safe”. Also, i dont think they need another Kickstarter for it, to be perfectly honest.

    1. Jeez, it’s not that they want to ‘play it safe’ or trying to milk the franchise. Larian is still a small developer (and ridiculously tiny if you compare them to freaking ACTIVISION)

They did the engine themselves from the ground up, they even implemented specific controls and UI for the upcoming console release, so it’s only logical that they’ll do a sequel.

  4. I kind of liked Ego Draconis. I understand it’s kind of an outlier in this series but I had fun with it despite the flaws. The final battle was insanely hard. I never played the expansion.

  5. Eh? why kickstarter? didn’t they sell a bunch of copies of the first one? they’re not going to invest the money they earned through sales? —__—

    1. They wanted to stay away from Kickstarter but community asked them to not seek publisher because with crowd funding model they won’t have to worry about targeting lowest common denominator. So they changed their minds. Most of the money will probably be their own.

    2. Why not? It’s basically the same strategy they used before: they make the game on their own dime and then they go to Kickstarter offering several improvements that the people can vote on with their wallet, what exactly is the problem with that?

If you had played Divinity Original Sin in the first place you wouldn’t be asking such stupid questions.

  6. Sad when you think that music might not be as good as old Divinity games since their composer died recently. 🙁
    RIP Great Man.

    1. Funny thing, I’ve bought the first game but have never get past the main menu because i can’t stand the music. And I’m not even joking, I’m sure the game is good but every time i managed to get some time to play it, i ended up just staring at the gorgeous main menu graphic with that horrible music for about a minute or two and then i decided to close the game. Every damn time. WTF is wrong with me.

  7. Lord, that first paragraph could use some tweaking…divinity original sin divinity original sin divi…..woooo I though my eyes were skipping. Good thing I bought the sony branded anti skip technology.
