Bethesda gives the green light to Fallout: New California mod: “We don’t foresee an issue”

A few days ago, the team behind the Fallout: New California mod for Fallout: New Vegas got a bit worried about its mod when Bethesda officially revealed its latest update for Fallout: The Board Game. However, it appears that the mod is safe as Bethesda gave the green light to the team, and wished them good luck.

As Bethesda’s representative stated:

“The great thing about modding is that people can build mods about whatever they want. We don’t foresee an issue with this team’s work, and we wish them well in their development.”

Fallout: New California is a prequel to Fallout New Vegas and promises to feature hours of new gameplay, as well as a fully voiced stand alone campaign. This total conversion mod will add an all new story around a new player character, an adopted resident of Vault 18, embarking on a journey through the wastelands of the New California Republic’s Cajon Pass.

With Bethesda’s blessing, it’s almost certain that this mod will not get shut down, so kudos to the publisher for supporting the modding teams!

    1. indeed. I have more mods installed on my PC instead of actual games, lol. from Skyrim, Elder scrolls, and Fallout just to name a few of them.

    2. no not really, there’s no point playing on PC now that consoles support mod. good games, superior experience and mod support are all on consoles. honestly i’d never touch a PC.

      1. you cant get those mods on consoles, the owners of consoles block them in case there are copyright issues

      2. Mods will never be on consoles because they are a controlled and completely closed platform. You can think of consoles as the Apple devices of the gaming world.

    3. Sadly,Japanese Dev still don’t understand that, even though they jump into PC market lately…Some of them still hate when modder replace their “pride” works into something else..

  1. Good guys Bethesda. These guys understand the modding community and it’s potential. Skyrim is as big it is on pc only due to the constant modding support.

    1. “Skyrim is as big it is on pc only due to the constant modding support.”

I believe that to be true as well. The last I heard Skyrim sold around 30 million copies. Came close to making it into the top 10 best selling video games of all time. I think it’s pretty obvious to Bethesda that they are selling more copies than they probably would have otherwise due to the value added to the game by the huge modding community. Skyrim has been out for 7 years now and a lot of people are still playing it with new mods.

      1. There are actually TOO many mods for Skyrim though. Sometimes I get confused which one shall I install first, Lol.

But I think SKYRIM is one of most heavily Modded games out there, imo ?

DSOG reader “@Bub&Bob” has pretty good experience with Skyrim mods, and extensive knowledge as well.

He guided me with some of the essential Skyrim mods, as I’m still new when it comes to modding this Game. Can’t seem to recall all of them though.

        1. I agree, Bub&Bob would be the go to guy for Skyrim mods from what I’ve seen here. He doesn’t seem to visit as much lately. Zatara is mostly lurking lately too.

          1. Still here, fella. Been enjoying the summer weather plus I’m hooked on (modded) Championship Manager 01/02 and I’ve been installing a ton of textures mods plus the unofficial update for Unreal Gold.

        2. You’re welcome to ask for further advice if the BOSS guide on the Nexus plus that list of personally recommended best mods is proving somewhat of an ordeal to work through, haha.

A few more recently released Skyrim SE mods I’d recommend are Immersive World Encounters, Skyrim Reborn – Whiterun Hold and (now that somebody has finally produced proper patches including a replacement esp plug-in) Skyrim Immersive Creatures.

  2. Wouldn’t surprise me in the least if Zenimax decided to overthrow that blessing and throw some lawsuits around.

      1. Shareholders prioritize money over the art and especially over pro-consumer practices. That’s reality, not negative.

        1. it has nothing to do with pro-consumer practices, they only react to external threats which this might be one of them.

        2. “pro-consumer” lol Some of these made-up terms. It’s like me saying I’m pro-food because I need to eat.

    1. What are they going to do? Release an update that removes modding? I don’t understand why this is even a thing. The game has mod tools, implemented by the developers, of course modding is going to happen.

  3. why does Bethesda have to give a green light for a mod?is this what modding has come to?people made mods for fun not a devs permission if thats what mods have become modding is over.

Bethesda shouldnt have been even asked.

      1. Because ZeniMax is traditionally known for being crazy and extremely sue-happy (historically, that is). They’ve even screamed and thrown tantrums over Fallout fansites in the past, so that they’re suddenly so pro-modding, especially since this doesn’t seem to be going through their paid mods program, is very unlike them.

Of course, it is possible they’re hoping this will end up on their paid mods program, but yeah.

        1. This honestly is a brilliant point, you’d think Zenimax would have forced then into putting it on the mod store(I don’t know the official name of it) due to their past issues with mods such as that one multiplayer mod for 3(i think that’s what it was for or it was new vegas) and the whole “Fallout Online” fiasco that used 1 and 2.

I almost just got ran down by some dude on a bicycle while typing this out walking. Hopefully you guys appreciate the words of a near dead man lol.

    1. Hahaha you’re certainly correct about that one. They do excell at their pedophilic tendencies exceptionally, nobody can deny then if that.

  4. This is why gaming companies annoy me so much, we have Bethesda that in my oppinion makes some bad design decisions regularly to turn me off their games but are super cool about mods and fan made content.
Then you have Nintendo a company that made in my opinion two of the best games of this entire generation and did it on a weaker gaming system. Yet those tools just sued to close two major room sites and if you made a Nintendo anything (sculpture, song, fan game. just to show your appreciation for their games they would probably send you a cease and desist within a week.
