Batman: Arkham Knight – Warner Bros Suspends Future Game Sales Of The PC Version

Warner Bros has just announced that it has suspended future game sales of Batman: Arkham Knight for the PC. According to the publisher, this suspension is due to the current state of the PC version and will be lifted once it addresses the game’s issues to satisfy its quality standards.

As Warner Bros stated:

“We want to apologize to those of you who are experiencing performance issues with Batman: Arkham Knight on PC. We take these issues very seriously and have therefore decided to suspend future game sales of the PC version while we work to address these issues to satisfy our quality standards.  We greatly value our customers and know that while there are a significant amount of players who are enjoying the game on PC, we want to do whatever we can to make the experience better for PC players overall.”

Warner Bros has also asked PC gamers’ patience while these issues are resolved.

Warner Bros concluded:

“The Batman: Arkham fans have continually supported the franchise to its current height of success, and we want to thank you for your patience as we work to deliver an updated version of Batman: Arkham Knight on PC so you can all enjoy the final chapter of the Batman: Arkham series as it was meant to be played.”

  1. “As it was meant to be played.”

Stop it with this gameworks nonsense. Every single game that has had GameWorks in it has had issues. Instead of wasting time and resources adding lameass GameWorks effects, improve the games performance, add better textures and make sure it works smoothly at at least 60 fps. That is all we ask from console ports, is this too much?

      1. I know but Nvidia is their partner in crime and probably pissed at Rocksteady for making them look bad and costing them a fortune in potential future GPU sales this quarter and probably pressed Rocksteady into making that statement.

        1. Gameworks is only part of the problem. Even with those settings turned off we have:
-30 fps lock (can be edited in the ini)
          -Crappy textures
          -Instability
-Stuttering and FPS drops when gliding and driving
          -Missing graphical effects
-Broken SLI that makes the game run worse
-Textures that take forever to stream in

    1. That quote has got nothing to do with NVIDIA man, NVIDIA’s marketing says “NVIDIA, The way it’s meant to be played”. Let’s read properly.

    2. to be fair, MGS port was amazing and borderlands titles were good all gameworks. but yeah most AAA games with Gameworks logo are doomed to have s**t optimization, caused by gameworks or not it’s a bad jojo :))

      1. oh wow MGS had Nvidia logo. for some reason i kept thinking it had AMD logo. that fox engine though is really well made for PC it seems.

      2. But optimization has nothing to do with performance of a SDK. Just because a game does not run at a stable 60 fps on your hardware does not mean a game in general is not optimized.

SDK’s will make a performance hit. Nvidia’s problem is a lot of their partners mess up and gameworks get’s what I would call a unfair blame. I mean nobody blamed TressFX when Tombraider came out and had mass glitches at 1st let alone those awkward effects in crossfire with lura’s hair. S/E fixed it.

And even with AMD hardware you lose FPS with TressFX on. Pretty much the same FPS loss that people see when they turn on Hairworks in Witcher 3 on Nvidia cards.

        1. well it’s nvidia’s fault too, they are marketing the game for pc, they are showing 60fps videos of that game, aren’t they ? they have to make sure the game runs good specially when they bundle the game (a locked 30fps game) with their latest high end cards. it’s mostly their poor choice of games, i agree it’s mainly the game’s fault and warner is to blame but nvidia should’ve known better specially after FC4/ACU etc…

          1. But how can it be their fault at all? They don’t Develope the game. They supply code via SDK. The developer needs to take full credit for what they did. Period. And Ubisoft already admitted they rushed the F out of Unity sure FC4 will come out as well.

I will not be shocked with Nvidia does not have something to say about this because on their end everything was fine. WB has a company F’;ed up Period.

        2. TressFX 3 just means pretty much more then one model to use. So performance will not be as awesome as people think unless it’s used on limited models in a game. Which remains to be seen.

          1. still remains to be seen. But I would give S/E credit for the work they have done for PC gaming. hitman, Watch dogs, Tomb raider, all the FF port’s. Wish they would fix FF XIII/2

Well the real credit goes to Eidos Montreal. They are the ones doing Deus EX mankind with TFX 3.0.

    3. you can be really ignorant at times man. bad dev’s make bad games. It has nothing to do with gameworks. I mean why must I keep typing the same thing over and over again.

1 Gameworks has nothing to do with textures. These textures in the game are worse then the freaking console version.

      2. Gameworks does not effect how a dev does AO, AA, DOF, it’s just adds effects for them. But guess what. Game does not have any of those. For all we know the game is only running FXAA since all the AA option is Off and ON. Really?

      3. Sure gameworks effects has a performance hit because they are effects for people who go out and buy GPU’s that cost as much as a gaming console. All SDK’s have some sort of performance hit. Just like Radeon SDK does. And if anybody else says other wise they are full of it.

      4. The game is so broken SLI/CF does not even work. People are getting over twice the performance with one card then two. SDK’s don’t effect that one bit.

      5. The only thing that looks cool in the game is the PhysX effects. I don’t even know how they managed to get that to work properly since they could not even put in AO let alone standard graphic effects in games.

      6. This will teach WB a lesson not to have a 15 man team who knows little about PC programming for their game. I mean come on it’s a modified UR3 engine. Unreal 3 been out since 2009? Yeah great job they did with that..

  2. PC gamers punted this console trash like it was a soccer ball in the World Cup. Awesome news. Make it right or don’t make it at all.

  3. yeah…reading the comments I really can’t fault nvidia on little bit…they “Work” with developers to enhance their brand..I would too..WB on the other hand..WTF…surely somebody somewhere knew the state of this game and they pressed the release button anyway. Poor form indeed. To those suckers that are given credit with the PC port, BRAVOOOO!!! you guys got screwed man..something crazy bad..WB ran a train on ya

  4. Actually kind of impressed that they would do this. It should have been released in a better state, but it wasn’t. So now their choices come down to doing something drastic like this to save face (Time Magazine and Forbes were covering how bad the port was!!) or just let it limp along bleeding until it dies somewhere forgotten in the woods like Ubisoft does with their garbage ports. I think with all things considered they are doing the right thing.

    1. 32% mostly negative, is not something you see on many AAA famous games. Batman is probably the first even AC unity didn’t have that many negative reviews as far as i remember and that game was and still is (as far as i heard) messed up.

but we have steam refunds to thanks for though.

        1. yea but i didn’t check anything so i didn’t want to assume anything wrong. i have a feeling steam might remove games with very low steam reviews (there was this airplane game i heard was simply broken and removed for example. now this game got removed temporarily, not completely though just the purchase option but still)

  5. lol, we did it 😀

    1.Remove that f***rd DRM.
    2.Bring Back Missing Graphical Effects.
    3.60fps.
4.optimize the damn game for good.
5.fix the option menu and add more options.
6.free season pass for standard edition.
7.free game for season pass owners.
    8.apologize more.

    1. we did again

Steam was forced to remove paid mods
NCSoft/Arenanet was forced to add rewards to their pre-purchase

this is Unity among PC gamers at it’s finest.

    2. Let’s be realistic here:

      *Cheaper Season Pass

      And you forgot:

*Better visuals than PS4, and I mean BESIDES GameWork effects:
      – better textures
      – better lightning
      – more particles/longer persistence in the world
      – higher quality ambient occlusion
      – unlimited framerate AND/OR native support for up to 144 MHz displays.
      – FXAA/MLAA/CMAA and MSAA (up to 8x) and TXAA (2x and 4x) AA options
      – more tessellated objects in the world maybe

        1. Except for bugs at launch, as far as features and performance goes, they did a great job on Arkham Origins.

          1. WB Montreal did Arkham Origins itself, but Iron Galaxy did the PC Port for it, it’s a little-known fact, but there’s credits for it available.

Somehow, that one actually turned out rather well, aside from the (expected) launch day issues, & the actual content being mediocre.

          2. Shows here they did not touch batman origins on PC.

Oh wow so much for KI on PC from MS. Iron Galaxy is porting it. Wonderful!!!!!!!

          3. Yeah, not sure which page you went to, but anyway;

Batman: Arkham Knight 2015 Microsoft Windows

          4. okay now I see. WTF is going on here? If that’s the case why was all the AA options in Tact. As well as PhysX, Gameworks. WTF is going on lol

          5. My thoughts exactly. This situation doesn’t make any sense, at all.

We’ve got two Professional Studios, each of which have worked with Unreal 3 before (though granted Rocksteady has modified Unreal 3 to suit their requirements), suddenly producing what is literally THE Worst Unreal 3 [AAA] PC Game in History.

            ??????????????

          6. yeah somebody high up messed up big time. And I am sure WB will not want to admit their precious rocksteady had any fault.

          7. Thats easy. Its said that iron got its hand on Batman AK 2 months before realising this sh*t

        2. The frame cap, at least, can be changed with an ini tweak. But generally you’re right – there’s only so much a porting team can do without access to code. Most of this is probably on Rocksteady.

          1. Or just Warner’s deadline. There is a movie coming so they probably planned around that.

          2. Movie? The next batman moviw(batman vs superman) is coming in 2016. This game has nothing to do with movies

          3. I was thinking along the lines of a movie tie-in game. If that’s on the way for Batman vs. Superman then you don’t want another Batman game anywhere close to it or you’re cannibalizing your own sales. Warner may have put a deadline on this game so it doesn’t steal the thunder of the next one.

    3. hopefully this will damage Denuvo’s reputation. best option is for them to completely remove it, but least they can do is to lesser the effects it has on performance cause we are all almost sure it is damaging the performance.

    4. After they’ve fixed the game, i think they should re-release it on GOG, surely that would win the heart of many PC Gamers XD

      1. I agree. DRM doesn’t make any sense this day in age. Buying the game legitimately offers passive benefits to consumers that are reason enough to purchase it, like no viruses and automatic updates and multiplayer.

Trying to gimp pirates with DRM only hurts paying consumers by adding computing overhead to increasingly complex games, which kills performance.

Pirates are gonna pirate, that’s what they do. But remember, pirates will one day be paying consumers because they do love games, too.

          1. Lol, wow. I have no interest in that game whatsoever, but I’m glad to see CDPR’s hard work has really paid off! They deserve it.

          2. And you can add 500k of Summer Sale…and end of next month you can add more 500k! while GOG selled just about nothing in their sale!

    5. “60 fps”? No. No framerate lock at all.

And they don’t have to make the game free for anyone, they just have to allow refunds. Those who trust them will not even consider to demand a refund and they know that.

My verdict so far: About on par with Ubisoft releases except Ubisoft doesn’t apologize. So slightly better than Ubisoft still.

  6. Holy moly, it is the Steam new refund policy that did this? It could be huge for PC gaming.

    ??? ??? ????? ?????? ?? ?? ???????? ??? ???????? ?? ??????

    1. I’m certain they never would’ve done this if Steam refunds didn’t exist. They’re being hit where it hurts.

  7. Pc community against the greed of AAA publishers.
Good job guys. We did it.
A clear memo was delivered. A memo that others studios are gonna read for sure.

  8. STEAM yearONE FTW! 75% sale and im ready to go!

    GOTY: Witcher 3 X Fallout 4 X MGS V!

      1. I really hope GTAV doesn’t get PC GOTY. It was an amazing accomplishment for consoles that it worked (as well as it did), but it was hardly optimized for PC. The performance was good, but it really lacked a ton of PC-centric features.

I would definitely vote it Console Port of the Year, though.

        1. GTA V imo is the best game made for PC in recent years Ultra 60+ FPS i even go 1440p 45+ FPS its extreme!
Witcher 3 and FC4 are by far the worst using x64 forced tesselation without a single slider for it to use less and that destroyed many of pc gamers experience in special those with Kepler cards like i do.
as for GTA V it has a tesselation changer and its a maserpiece of a game 10/10.

          1. The world is brilliantly realized, and the graphics are great, but the game itself is dull. The three main characters (none of them women) are interesting characters, but there’s zero character/ personality arc – the characters are exactly the same at the end of the game than they are in the beginning, as if the game takes place completely within a couple of days or week. There’s some witty dialogue between them but none of them are likeable – I found that I didn’t sympathize with any one of them and I didn’t care for any of their accomplishments or even cared if they succeeded. They were all just in it to get money. And all the secondary/ tertiary characters were annoying a**holes.

Not only that, but that beautiful world was mostly just static background to what ultimately amounts to a driving/ ragdoll simulator. Your interaction with NPC’s amounts to punch/ shoot/ or bash them with a vehicle. At least Watch_Dogs made an attempt to treat NPC’s as real people with real identities/ lives.

Plus, the game had zero depth, which is very non-PC game-y (there’s got to be a better word for this). The punch/ shoot/ or bash-with-vehicle gameplay is exactly the same at hour 400 that is is in the first 10 minutes.

And the entire story mode can be beaten, easily, with just a pistol (guns are super-accurate), in about 15 hours, 13 of which is just driving.

TLDR: How a game performs and looks is only two of the metrics of a good PC game. GTAV was a PORT, delayed on PC for two years, and undeserving of PC GOTY in my estimation. A good PC game NEEDS depth, because that’s really the main thing that sets it apart from casual, time-wasting simplicity. If we were to remove depth of gameplay from the equation then Geometry Wars 3 would be an equal contender for PC GOTY as GTAV.

          2. i didn’t like the story either(its far as quality from the previous GTA’s) but are to many stuff to do alone in single player and online with friends !
i have 300h+ on steam for GTA V and still i feel that i didn’t do everything in GTA V.
As for GTA V story you are 100% right no emotions what so ever just some cool reply’s and dialogs each and there!

          3. GTA Online is really a different game. I was mainly referring to the single player game.

I’ll give this to you, though: Maybe just the online game could be contender for GOTY. Hmm. You get to actually customize your character and the player advancements and gameplay (considering playing with others is a gameplay factor) are totally different than the single player game.

There really needs to be a greater divide between the single-player and online portions of the game. It doesn’t do it justice to call it GTAV Online. It’s a totally different game.

      2. GTA got luck not being released in 2015. It would not even being listed to GOTY . lmao

        1. It will be… its a good game .
at least at sales destroys everything just because its masterpiece optimized!

          1. i didn’t played the console version so i don’t know how was that at 30 FPS low textures and using Xbox/PS controller and no editor what so ever.

          2. Pretty much, but it still looked beautiful and was given a 10/10 score from a lot of gaming sites for some reason.

  9. I hope WB learned a lesson with who they have port games to PC. I just want to know who’s wonderful Idea it was to have Iron Galaxy even touch this game. It’s graphics options are just unreal. And the 30fps cap just takes the cake.

Only ignorant piles of Fud will call it gameworks/nvidia at fault. I would like to know how it’s their fault since none of their effects hardly even work in the game from the get go. The only thing that works is PhysX. Everything else looks like they just put it in or not even at all.

I just want to know why Nvidia’s build looks amazing. Yet the retail version is so garbage. HBAO+? Game does not even have AO. DOF? Nope….

Maybe this time WB will have a dev team that should be on such a project for such a Big game. Oh and for the textures being such garbage just look at the memory management. 1080p eating up over 5 gig’s? WTF.

    1. Honestly, I’m not convinced it’s Iron Galaxy’s fault. – No, I’m not saying it’s Gameworks’ fault, either.

Granted, they did supposedly handle the PC Port, but they also did the Arkham Origins Port, & that one turned out fine, expected launch day issues aside.

I mean seriously, this thing is so broken, it actually switches between DX10 & DX11 by itself. This is NOT normal, by any extent. There are missing Textures, effects, basic things that really just SHOULD NOT BE BREAKING when transferring from a Console to a PC, using Unreal 3. Think of Watch_Dogs – the stuff was still there, it was just disabled, hidden within the files, but STILL THERE. Here, the stuff is just flat out missing, period.

This entire situation just doesn’t make any sense. Granted, Rocksteady did modify Unreal 3 to suit their own needs/requirements, but it doesn’t make sense that Iron Galaxy could break the Engine, could break basic programming so much that this stuff is actually happening.

To top it all off, none of this is affecting the Console version either, so it’s not like we can say Rocksteady f*cked up, & like you said yourself – look at how smoothly Nvidia has it running (though granted, 99% of showcases are done on SLi’d/CrossFire’d Rigs with Super-CPU’s, since the Games are still wildly unoptimized & they don’t want to show FPS losses). This entire thing just doesn’t make any sense.

      1. You make some great points. If there were such a thing as game journalism I would expect then to try and interview people to find some answers, but mostly game journalism is reserved for trade shows and reposting Twitter gossip.

Although, someone did mention that TIME and Forbes have reported on the issue, so maybe they’ll find some answers. WB has shareholders, after all.

  10. Man it feels like us PC gamers are now important i’d hope so with a lot of PC sales beating xbox one sales.

  11. Well good, companies really need to start enforcing better policies for their products, ones that are pro-consumer. This incident was honestly baffling, and I hope more companies (especially Ubisoft), start taking heed from this and actually work on their PC version a bit more.

  12. Let’s hope they will come back with a game as good optimized as Batman Arkham Origins Ultra 1080p TXAA 60+ FPS !

    1. Nvidia needs to set a standard to who they have use gameworks. It’s been nothing but bad PR with games that have the Nvidia logo on them. And it’s hurting PC gaming more then anything.

I feel bad for all the thousands of people who made a Gaming PC with a 970/980 or 280X/290X card and looking forward to a game like this. Just for it to be worse then a console that is pretty much using a HD7950.

      1. Well Arkham Origins used perfectly gameworks and also worked superb on my end Ultra+gameworks with TXAA 60+ FPS using just one GTX 680!
as for consoles what i know is that they are using 7870/7850 around there as raw power and thats just ultra weak compared to my card or GTX 970 etc.

        1. It’s just a bad joke. But in the end Nvidia get’s the blame on tech sites. I think I responded to over 150+ ignorant comments today alone.

You would think I worked for Nvidia 🙂

          1. I don’t know why Nvidia gets to be blame for it !
gameworks dosen’t have anything of how the game its optimized by developers
the thing that its pissing me off is that :
How come Nvidia let a game as broken out and why they let to use their nvidia logo ?
i mean we are in 2015 and i think a game needs to be tested before it gets out!

          2. Not only that but why are the gameworks trailers freaking awesome and the game was a wreck?

          3. I just don’t understand how that can be? I mean if that’s the case you would think Iron Galaxy would be in deep trouble.

          4. No I just no SDK’s from AMD or NVidia don’t destroy games. Only Lazy or rushed Developers do.

  13. Now its done!

Good job guys, good job Steam with refund policy.

Now its a good start to refund all games from Steam who dont met the producers 1st statement from E3 etc or who dont have good performance on PC hardware.

  14. After this, I can’t wait for Ubisoft to release the PC version of Assassin’s Creed this year. Pull up a chair, and sit back and watch the fireworks, it’s been a long time coming.

    1. Oh I bet the good people over at Ubisoft are all laughing thinking at least it’s not us this time maybe people will forget about Unity….

      1. Would be nice to see a comeback in the Industry from Ubisoft.

Nvidia is sure quiet with all the Batman mess. I thought for sure they would of made a statement by now. I can just feel the lawyers looking over each word before that post button gets clicked.

I mean performance wise The last Ubisoft games I been happy with on PC has been the rayman games and AC rouge. And that’s not really saying much

  15. Great news, Steam new policy and that pc versions sells very good is what makes em crap their pants. They should never have done this stunt to begin with, and think they get away with it!

But hey, they got what they deserved and hopefully learnd something, those F*CKN CLOWNS!

  16. Thank you, Steam refunds! Assassin’s Creed Unity, Watch_Dogs, and Far Cry 4 would have had the same fate if consumers had an easy way to get their money back.

    1. Steam refunds = the reason why Assassin’s Creed Syndicate gets delayed to be optimized for PC without the cinematic effect!.

      1. Let’s hope Ubisoft is taking the port job now seriously because if they f up they’re going to have to deal with angry gamers and the refunds will send them a very clear message.

    2. Assasin Creed Syndicate will have the same fate if it releases so broken as unity was. The only difference is that unity was also broken on consoles too while batman only on pc.

  17. what the hell? the game is not broken, its the current hardware that available in market is inferior to handle this game. Its not the WB who should suspend game sale, its the f’ing hardware makers should suspend their hardwares from market. shame! intel! shame! nvidia! shame! amd!

  18. Guys, there are claims that the NVIDIA’s Gameworks video was speeded up and is not 60fps, some of the voices in the background of the video sound odd.

  19. I’ve played for 22 hours and was able to tolerate the crappy performance, but tonight I reached my breaking point when I couldn’t even come close to beating a Batmobile AR challenge because of the horrible stuttering and FPS drops. Uninstalled this piece of crap, I’ll wait until they fix it.

  20. i wanna know what these guys were smoking while working on the PC version. I want some of that stuff..
