3D Realms is working on a new first person shooter that will be powered by the Quake Engine

1C Entertainment and 3D Realms have announced that they are working on a new unannounced FPS game based on the original Quake engine. This first person shooter will be coming to the PC, though there isn’t any ETA on when it will come out as of yet.

1C Entertainment and 3D Realms have not revealed any additional details about this unannounced FPS and they have not shared any screenshots from it. So yeah, there is nothing to report other than this game is currently under development.

Here is hoping that this new FPS will re-capture the feeling of the old-school FPS games like Ion Maiden did. Ion Maiden did an incredible job but I’m pretty sure that its 2D visuals helped it a lot. On the other hand, this 3D game powered by the original Quake Engine could backfire as – at least IMO – the early 3D games are not as charming as the BUILD-powered 2D games.

We’ll be sure to keep you posted about this unannounced FPS game, so stay tuned for more!

  1. New retro game on one of the best game engines ever, that’s what I’m talking about….
Insta-preorder…..If they can beat Arcane Dimensions, in terms of gameplay and level design… One note though…Quake engine was never good for something like “realistic” 3DR/Duke-style of design. So I’m very curious what will they create with Quake engine, design-wise.

  2. project warlock, ion maiden, dusk, amid evil, blackroom ,Apocryph, hellbound and now this.
    Things are looking good.

  3. lol, and then one with ray-tracing after 6 years and then cancelled after 9 years.

jokes aside I wonder if they are going to use the original Quake movement unchanged. it would be kind of pointless to use that specific engine but then make a game that behaves like any other.

  4. I get that its a retro style game, but the Quake Engine is very old and has limitations. Seems like an odd choice to choose that engine when they could have easily used a new engine and make a retro game.

    1. Expect some tweaks but still… Really strange, altough I’m really excited since I’ve never seen such a move and kind of always wanted it to happen and see what turns out!

  5. Speaking of Ion Maiden…when it will come out? And yeah, I do love this new games in oldskool engines 😉

  6. I think part of the wow factor of Ion Maiden was to see how they had twisted the build engine to perform crazy feats all those years down the line.

Perhaps its like this: Making a game on the Q1 engine = everyone has something to say about it, making game on a modern engine and styling it old school = just like any other lofi indie game.
