Third-person camera mod coming soon to Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance

Modder ‘oct0xor’ has revealed the release date of a third-person camera mod for Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance. As the title implies, this mod will allow you to play this classic Metal Gear Solid game in a proper third-person mode.

The modder plans to release this mod on November 5th. Moreover, and in order to showcase it in action, oct0xor released the following trailer. This trailer packs numerous gameplay sequences and will give you an idea of what you can expect from it.

As oct0xor claimed, the code to have a normal 3rd person camera was never present in the game. In order to implement it, the modder had to reverse engineer and rewrite many things in the game engine.

As always, we’ll be sure to share its download link once the mod comes out. Until then, enjoy the trailer!

  1. This could potentially trivialize the game’s difficulty unless the modder balance it in some ways. But then again, it seems this was played with a controller based on how clunky it looks right now.

    1. That was true of MGS1, but I am pretty sure the only ‘difficulty reduction’ you’d see here would be the good kind–the difficulty that comes from clunky controls. MGS2 already had FPV and TPV, just a sh**ty early implementation. The hard and extreme and european extreme difficulties will still be more than hard enough, and the mechanics shouldn’t be broken.
