Crimson Desert new feature-2

New Crimson Desert Mod reduces LOD pop-in issues & adds grass shadows

Modder ‘VAXIStaa’ has released a must-have mod for Crimson Desert, targeting those who have high-end GPUs. This mod will reduce the annoying LOD pop-in issues from which the game suffers. So, this is a mod everyone should be using on PC. At least in my opinion.

Going into more details, the mod improves the LOD pop-ins for vegetation, grass, and rocks by a certain amount “0.5” -> 1.0″. The modder does not suggest using higher values as they can cause issues.

Furthermore, the mod adds 1881 meshes into the “ignoreImposterList.xml”. These objects will keep their high-quality poly form from further away. As such, the game will no longer suffer from the poly change when the distance is changed.

As the modder noted, there are improvements, but pop-ins are not eliminated fully. For instance, the drawing line for shadows (the cascade of shadows) is still an issue and is still present even with this mod. Nevertheless, the game can look way better with it.

VAXIStaa has shared the following GIFs that showcase the poly form from close to distance. As you will see, you’ll now get a more stable image. This is what the game should have looked like on Max Settings. There are still some shadow issues that pop up, but I can live with them.

It’s also worth noting that the mod can add shadows to the grass. This is another major graphical feature that the vanilla version lacked. So, it’s good to see a mod that can add things like these.

Those interested can download the mod from this link. Needless to say, the mod comes with a performance hit. This is why I suggest it only for those who own a high-end GPU. You can still use it if you own a mid-tier GPU. However, in forests that have a lot of grass, you might notice slowdowns.

To install it, you’ll also need JSON Mod Manager v9.7.2. Once you download the mod, you’ll have to extract and place its folder in the mods folder of the JSON Mod Manager. Then, you’ll have to move the mod over to the right side (Active)  and hit “Apply Mods”.

The mod should be compatible with the game’s latest version. If it crashes after applying the mod, you’ll have to disable the encrypt option in JSOMM.

Have fun!
