Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Sephiroth-2

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth gets a 21GB Texture Pack that enhances 98% of the interiors, overhauling around 14000 textures

Modder ‘Romi’ is back with another must-have Texture Pack for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. This pack is 21GB in size and covers 98% of the game’s interiors, overhauling around 14000 textures.

To showcase some of the new textures, the modder shared the following comparison screenshots. So, be sure to check them out as they can give you a pretty good idea of what you can expect from it.

FF7 Rebirth is a great game but man, SE really dropped the ball here. The game has A LOT of low-res textures. And you know what? It’s a shame that the devs did not at least use a simple AI tool to sharpen them.

Anyway, that’s one of the best things about PC gaming. Once a game comes out on our platform, modders can further polish/enhance it. And that’s what’s been happening with FF7 Rebirth.

You can download this new Texture Pack from this link. To install it, you’ll just have to paste the 3 files into %GAMEDIR%\FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH\End\Content\Paks\~mods.

This pack is also compatible with the previous HD Texture Pack that Romi released. That pack only covers the game’s outdoors. So, there won’t be any conflict or overlap with this pack.

Speaking of FF7 Rebirth, I also suggest FF7RebirthFix. This mod lets you adjust the gameplay FOV, unlocks the framerate, and adds support for ultrawide or narrower displays. Its latest version also improves shadow cascades. Thus, you won’t see shadows constantly changing right in front of view.

Then we have this amazing first-person mod. This is another must-have mod for FF7 Rebirth. This mod lets you explore the world of the game in first-person mode. During fights, it switches back to a third-person viewpoint. As such, it feels like an official first-person exploration mode. It’s really cool, so be sure to download it from here.

Finally, you can read our PC Performance Analysis for this game. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth feels a bit better than FF7 Remake. While it also suffers from shader compilation stutters, it doesn’t appear to have any major traversal stutters. It also plays great with KB&M during exploration and fights. However, some of the mini-games are unplayable with it. Seriously, I challenge everyone to try playing the piano with KB&M. It’s unplayable. Menu navigation is also a bit weird as you can’t use the mouse. In short, although FF7 Rebirth is slightly better than FF7 Remake, it’s still nowhere close to what you’d expect from a PC game.

Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

  1. Modders are churning these out pretty quickly, which means that squeenix could've done this pretty easily themselves but couldn't be bothered to because they're just that lazy. @#$% them.

    1. I had to disable his mods. 2x the size. Big issues with VRAM usage at high resolution on a 4090. Especially if you’re using other engine tweaks to make the game look/run better.

If you stand in one spot and just keep rotating the camera your SSD hits 800MB+ per second of data streaming.

      1. 800MB+?! Goddamn, seems like some quality control needs to be put in place! Hopefully the modder(s) take this into consideration and make some improvements in the future.

        1. Problem is that it’s a direct storage game. So it was designed with that in mind. “Oh hey we don’t need to keep anything in memory. Just keep dumping assets instantly and streaming them back in.”

Even worse is the artificial limits on VRAM and system memory. You can mod engine.in to increase VRAM usage but it’s not done “smartly” so you’ll cap out and same problems will continue. And if you set a value above 16GB for maximum temporary system memory usage, the game will stop rendering properly right away. No idea why.

Best solution would have been to at least utilize your system memory and pull the data from there instantly instead of slamming your ssd. But typical memory limited square enix games.

    2. More likely that the Modders just don't have anything else to do. It's not like there's any value in their lives away from a PC.

      1. That still doesn't excuse square from putting little to no effort into improving the textures. They had more than a year to do it, all they had to do is assign a few of their texture artists to improve them. It's because of brown-nosers like you that these companies get away with putting in less and less effort into every port.

  2. From the pictures you share i see that it's not worth it, the differences is very minimal, specially with 21GB, the size of another game to install.
