Warner Bros will release Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League next month. And, from the looks of it, Rocksteady is currently in “damage control” mode, with its product director Darius Sadeghian trying his best to convince people that this isn’t a GaaS game, and that it has the DNA of the Batman: Arkham series.
In an interview with GamesRadar, Sadeghian avoided calling Suicide Squad a Game as a Service title, claiming that the game does not fit with any particular label. And you know what? I’ll bite. If it doesn’t fit with any genre, then what exactly is it? Why should players be excited about it? What’s its target audience?
The truth is that this new Suicide Squad is a GaaS game. We know that. Warner Bros knows that. Rocksteady knows that. Everyone knows that. The fact that Sadeghian attempts to hide its genre speaks volumes about Rocksteady’s confidence.
Not only that but some new previews went live a couple of hours ago. And, surprisingly enough, some of them were negative. But you know what all of them had in common? The game’s genre. All of the previews call this a GaaS game. The fact that Rocksteady is still trying to hide it is laughable.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League suffers from all the issues we’ve criticized. No matter what the execs say, this isn’t a “Batman Arkham” game. This statement kind of reminded me of Redfall. Remember when Arkane and Bethesda were claiming that Redfall had the DNA of Arkane’s games?
And I’ll be realistic here. The Rocksteady that made Batman: Arkham City and Arkham Knight is long gone. That’s the harsh truth. The team that is working on Suicide Squad is not the same as the one that gave us Arkham Knight. I mean, even the studio’s co-founders Sefton Hill and Jamie Walker left it at the end of 2022.
To sum up, if you’ve played Anthem and Marvel’s Avengers, you more or less know what you can expect from it. Suicide Squad will be a GaaS title, and it might have an interesting story. And, if you want to experience its story, you’ll be able to watch a story video on YouTube. That is if you are not into GaaS games. If, on the other hand, you love them, you might want to give it a go!

I just watched a preview video from the German PC Games and I think at the core it could be a fun game like Sunset Overdrive but cringe dialogue, item rarity, skill tree, etc… No thanks. There are better alternatives if I want loot driven games.

This game never looked good and the minute it was revealed that Sweet Baby Inc. consulted or worked on it was the final nail in the coffin.

This game is DOA. I’m more exited for the sh@tshow this game brings on release than the game it self.
A lot of the fervor around the game would go away if people were just honest. If it’s a Games as a Service game, call it that. If this isn’t the same Rocksteady that made the Arkham games, and instead is more concerned by the color of hair the “developers” have, say so. If it’s not the game Rocksteady really wanted to make, but the WB coproration wanted instead, just BE HONEST!.
All this lying is really the underlying issue. If Rocksteady from the start said “We wanted to do a Superman game, we even eluded to it in Arkham Knight, but Warner Brothers wanted us to do Suicide Squad. Then when we make it very similar to the Arkham games, but Warner Brothers stepped in and wanted us to make a Games as a Service game instead.” No one would care. Everyone who did care, would understand the game isn’t what we wanted, and would end up not paying attention to it. Not giving it any coverage, and just forgetting it even exists. We could all have moved on with our lives years ago.
But instead, we continually get lies, and are given false hope that “Maybe it isn’t as bad as we think it’s going to be”. Even though all the leaks and now actual hands on reports are saying “Yup. It’s exactly as bad as you think it is.” Just stop the lies and we can all move on from this gaming travesty.

Well Rocksteady (with WB being complicit) seem intent on self destructing, as this will be the second DCU based game thats marketed as a SP game but it in fact needs an always on connection. RS pulled the same sh*t with ‘Gotham Nights’ and I was forced to set sail on the high seas for alternative way to play the game I f**king paid for.
The fact RS are trying to be dishonest right from the get go demonstrates they are not trustworthy and dont deserve your money. Fool me once, shame on RS/WB. They wont get a second chance.

The thing I don’t understand is why tf do they keep ruining dev teams whose area of expertise is single-player story-driven games?
