Microsoft announced that the Creators Update for Windows 10 is rolling out today. This new update for Windows 10 features Game Mode, and offers built-in Beam game streaming.
As Microsoft noted, the initial release of Game Mode works best when your PC is experiencing resource contention. This basically means that when your PC is working hard to run your game and possibly other concurrent software, Game Mode can help manage system resources more efficiently and optimize them for gaming.
“To enable Game Mode, pull up the Game bar (Windows key + G) and click on the Settings button. There you’ll be able to opt the running game into using Game Mode. And the Creators Update is just the first milestone in our commitment to Game Mode and Windows 10 performance improvements for PC gaming.”
As we’ve already said, Game Mode supports both UWP and Win32 games.
Furthermore, and thanks to this update, the Windows Game bar is now supported in full screen mode with over 80 of the most popular PC games.
Last but not least, Microsoft has implemented an easy and interactive way to stream your games on Windows 10. All you have to do is press the Windows key + G while playing your game to bring up the Game bar, and click the broadcast icon to launch Beam.
“This gives everyone the opportunity to show their creativity as a game broadcaster. And it gets better. Thanks to Beam’s low latency technology, Beam streams have less than a second of delay, enabling streamers to engage and interact with their viewers in near real-time. What’s more, Beam enables streamers to incorporate interactive features such as animation and sound triggers right into their stream. The ability to manage your Beam broadcast and interact with fellow gamers on chat will appear as overlays.”

Its cool that they support it but at least for Nvidia users, the hardware accelerated Geforce experience recording and broadcasting is much better
Doesn’t ReLive have virtually the same features?
Never used it, but per their web site currently there is no hardware 4k/60fps recording
I would like to argue against that.
Evidence: pressing alt+z to bring it up crashes my mouse and i have to boot it up in safe mode to uninstall geforce experience.
hello sir. not my problem.
Captain out for duty.
Something wrong with your PC. works fine here
The funny thing is the Xbox DVR works perfectly. And i love uploading my CSGO raping sprees to my potato farm.
Recording with DVR is a lot easier + you don’t have to mess with nvidia annoying mess that now forces you to log in
Easier it is, but I tried recording at highest settings, its only FHD max and the quality is soso
Nvidia is limited to 4K/120FPS and the quality is user set based on bitrate not some arbitrary Normal and High setting.
The most important part is hardware Encoding.
BanditCam is paid soft but supports both ATI and NVIDIA hardware encoding/decoding, also allows to record in HEVC, which Nvidia shas hardware for but their software is not utilizing because its useless, YT and otehr streaming sites dont support it, so its only good for personal collections for now
Game DVR is build for people like me who don’t wanna mess with things and just want something that won’t hit performance and will do decent job.
Same as Microsoft’s browser is no where near Firefox and other modern browsers, and same way as Microsoft Paint is not as advanced as other software.
I tried to install Geforce experience but then it asked me to be online and register an account in order to use it, so I uninstalled it, took out the hard drive where I had downloaded it, threw it in the trash, set it on fire and called the cops.
So this game mode thing is not for everything? U cant just click a button that shuts off all useless to gamers functions? Hmm.. yet again MS has disappointed me. Not to mention how people showed what Game Mode really gives us (1-2 fps AT BEST)
Game mode? More like useless mode..
P.s. I already have a program that does exactly that now that i think about it ;p I gotta try and see which one works better
Game mode doesn’t change your max fps. It’s all about minimum fps. Check bencharks on PCGamer: “Tested: Windows 10’s Game Mode makes unplayable games playable—sometimes”
I did see them, but i forgot about the min part. How much was it? What was considered playable? 30? 25? I know friends that game on laptops with 20-25 fps, and they never thought its not playable. I know others that think anything under 60 is insane. I think anything under 120 is ;p
Soo yea, what is? ;p
P.s. 60 Fps looks laggy on my 144 hz monitor, its blurry too. It was made for 120 hz. Thats my min for somewhat enjoyable gameplay. 144 with G sync tho <3
If you have PC fast enough to give you minimum 60-100fps then you don’t need Game Mode. This mode is for owners of “slow PC”.
PS: I want see tests in bad optimized games such as “Batman Arkham Knight”, “Assassins Crees Unity” or “Project Cars”. Those games have really bad minimum fps
I don’t know what your source is, but you’re clearly misinformed. Gamemode was never marketed as some “free performance button”. It helps ONLY when there are background tasks running.
If you check my source, it gives quite a significant performance boost when background tasks are running. In GoW4 it improved the minimum framerate from 12.5 to 18.5 fps, a 6 fps increase, and average fps improved 5 fps, which is significant considering this happens for free with no additional hardware.
If you are so lazy that you just want a “free performance” button, you should make it yourself. Microsoft has made it quite easy to enable game mode, you just need to do it once in borderless or windowed mode and then it is always enabled.
Once again, anti-Microsoft crybabies fail to do research before whining.
SOURCE: “Tested: Windows 10’s Game Mode makes unplayable games playable—sometimes”
First: Thanks for taking the time to write all of that!
Second: From all the tests ive seen, the fps gains were raging from 0/1/2. Thats why im a tiny bit disappointed. I can go and find out the tests if you wish, im sure it wont be too hard. If however you are right and it is more than 1 fps, then its surely worth it! My old laptop can use all the help it can get.
P.s. The game mode is already a Free fps button mate, didn’t you watch the video from Major Nelson? ;p It’s not that im lazy or anything, i have a similar program that already kills a ton of running tasks with a click of a button. I just expected this to work for everything and just like my program.
Like a tablet/phone switch that turns off everything (AKA Flight mode/Battery saver, not per game but overall for the entire system)
Just a heads up – You can’t activate the game bar to enable game mode while the game is in fullscreen. Set it to windowed or borderless then press Win + G to get the game bar. You can enable game mode and then set it back to fullscreen.
I have to admit, it really makes a lovely difference in games. A few titles I legitimately was getting anywhere from 6 to 10 extra FPS but overall, this feature is less about raw framerate increase and more about fluidity and reducing random stutters caused by other applications taking brief priority in the background.
I was having lots of issues with “other-application stutter” in Ghost Recon Wildlands even though I have a 1080 Ti and can keep 80 – 100 FPS at 1440p, but using Game Mode eliminated these random hitches for me. Something else it does is automatically remove the application’s affinity for the first couple of cores/threads on your CPU.
This is a practice that I started doing manually a while back because it eliminates most of the stutter caused by interrupting applications and background processes by allowing them to use the first core or two which they naturally bind to instead of competing for it.
Now Game Mode does this for me so I don’t have to do it every time I launch a game. It really is a great start to a much needed, native Microsoft feature that I hope can grow over time. I’m not at all disappointed with it though even in it’s early state.
Just to reiterate, don’t expect this to give you frame rate boosts in the manner overclocking will. Expect it to remove stutters and performance issues caused by interrupting applications and poor resource management.
Wow, it sounds good. Random stuttering is one of the most annoying issues when it comes to performance.
One question, though: do you have many unnecessary programs running in the background?
No – I keep things very clean and minimal, but there are a few things that I do keep running, like NZXT CAM for controlling all my NZXT CLC watercoolers and fans etc, in addition to Logitech software and Malwarebytes for active connection monitoring. It definitely contributes to some stutter, but using game mode prevents these programs from doing so.

When i see this sheet, i ask myself..
What if thy meaning of life ?
So everyone knows that Windows 10 has a lot of spywhere. So the streaming service uses the spyware is also obvious right? So the question is, why did it take THIS long to set it up on Windows 10 when Xbox already had these futures?
I don’t claim to have the answer, but modified spyware that gets to spy on you directly on what you are doing seems to be it. I got nothing to hide but even I hate when people goes up to my face and looks at what I am doing. And that would make me perform much worse if someone really did observe me that close…just saying.
Where are all the good benchmarks at?
In the Windows 10 Creators Update, we now support Windows Game bar in full screen mode with over 80 games, listed below. This feature is controlled with the new Gaming settings page in Windows Settings. Look for “Game bar” settings, and make sure that “Show Game bar when I play full screen games Microsoft has verified” setting is checked.
