DOOM – New Stunning Screenshots Show The Power Of The id Tech 6 Engine

Bethesda has released a new set of screenshots for DOOM. DOOM is powered by the id Tech 6 Engine, and these latest screenshots actually show better visuals than those showcased a while back. DOOM looks beautiful. Moreover, color grading seems to be toned down too, which is a big plus in our opinion. Enjoy the screenshots after the jump!

  1. Wow, those shots certainly do look a lot better than what was previously shown. I’m still not sure why everything needs to be so excessively colour-graded in modern games, but at least they’re showing off a much wider palette of colours now.

  2. SH*T F*CKN Awesome!
If this is actually ingame just wow. Looking like a new step up from anything almost, or it’s just me thats overhyped ..LOL!

    1. I agree it’s almost giving off the vibe of the original doom’s which is kinda hard to do considering how far technology has come. The gameplay has the pacing of the originals too, I’m cautiously optimistic.

      1. pacing of the originals? WTF are you talking about… It looks like it’s half the speed from what was shown… looks like it’s built for a F’king controller…

        1. least we can walk in more than 8 directions and don’t need to lift the mouse up constantly to put it in the center. not to mention this looks pretty fast for someone that was just walking us through the place to show of the game

  3. Who cares… The ID many of us grew up with as teenager’s when Wolfenstein 3D was “Shareware” is long and gone. This game is not going to make a mark on PC gamer’s. And Bethesda lost it’s ways after Morrowind once they got touched by console sickness….. I mean think about that. Morrowind on PC on it’s lowest settings looked better then the Original Xbox version did. And that is Fact. Not oh yeah I am PC Master Race. That is truth. 110%.

So to me this will be a console port. Nothing more…. Nothing less. XD

      1. No just been playing for a very long time and just naming off a company sell out for weak console hardware.. But hey maybe if I talk enough s h i t about the game maybe it might be great on PC and is a True PC game and ported to console.. And not a console game ported to PC…

        1. All Doom games are ported from pc to console. Doom1,2,Final Doom and Doom3 and Doom3 Resurrection of evil. All came on pc first and console later.

          1. Yeah…. And Doom 4 will not be… That’s why I am calling them a sell out… And Bethesda been selling out way before they bought ID software… Which is why I said the ID Software I knew as a teen is long and gone even if Doom 3 came out when I was 24… But still…

          2. if the ID software you knew as a teen was still around they would have went out of business long ago. times have changed man. i too grew up with all this but i refuse to become a crotchety old man that wont realize that the world keeps moving even if I dont want it to.

          3. Yeah we all know times change but that does not mean you sell out and build your games around consoles 1st.

          4. Times change but at its core, business does not. Key word there is “Business”
The term “Sell out” doesnt apply to BUSINESS, its only used by those who dont understand how “business” actually works.

          5. who cares with all the side track chit chat… Bottom line is the game is a console game that is being put on PC.

          6. Don’t know what you’re talking about. The game looks great.

I think the only thing that’s hurt here, is your fanboy pride and ego. Not so much the game.

I think you’re overestimating things. Not many PC exclusives look as good as a lot of multiplatform games. And the most popular games on PC are MOBAs, RTSs, MMOs and indie games. Not the most graphically impressive games.

          7. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTfe7V-_3r0 Yeap, that looks damn great to me too, absolutely like what a Doom Game is supposed to play/look like, & not at all like a generic, boring, unmemorable FPS that could have any IP/Studio name on it what-so-ever…….. Like, say….. Epic Games/Bulletstorm! 😮

Yes, I am absolutely saying this looks closer to Bulletstorm than it does to DOOM Classic, because it does.

On the bright side, at least they FINALLY realized brown-cake filters belong in 2005-2006. Albeit, at the cost of 2008(?)-style plastic filters however, apparently.

Alternatively, let’s compare Brutal Doom to this so-called “DOOM” Game directly; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dw6F-rQ3aw

            Oh, be still my heart.

          8. I was meaning visually. Which supposedly is what consoles are holding back.

That’s multiplayer footage. Not the same as single-player campaign.

If anything Bulletstorm is a bit of an evolution of Doom. Or Brutal Doom.

Hell, Doom 3 wasn’t anything like Doom classic either and I wouldn’t say that game was held back or anything. I feel people are just looking for something to vent their frustrations out on when a developer makes different design decisions they don’t like and they look to consoles.

          9. Doom 3 was literally “a Corridor Shooter with a Flash light Mechanic” that devolved the entire DOOM Franchise to utter sh*t, there was absolutely nothing good about it at all. There’s a reason people consider it to be a f*cking joke.

It wasn’t held back as much as its basic design concepts were just completely ridiculous, likewise here. Consoles ARE more of a factor now than in 2004 (Weapon Wheels for example), but the basic issues once again stem from Developer design decisions.

Slowing things down isn’t what DOOM is about, & it’s not “different” either, it’s devolution. DOOM has a signature Gameplay style, it’s not something they have a right to rewrite in order to cash in on the IP name. Quake 4 was barely Quake, DOOM 3 was absolutely NOT DOOM, & “DOOM” here isn’t even halfway between DOOM 3 & DOOM Classic so far.

If id Software wants to make generic boring-as-hell looking shooters that somewhat draw on specific ’90s elements, they’ve a right to do that, & nobody’s stopping them. The moment they try to put the name “Quake” or “DOOM” on it though, we have a problem.

    1. @johnmellinger:disqus Decisions are made which bring the game to as many people as possible and generate the most revenue. Whatever choice they make, will be the right one based on current market demand. Simple really.

        1. I know what he’s talking about, and again, all decisions made are due to financial constraints and market demands. It’s not about some company losing their way, they aren’t idiots.

          1. So what? The original id team are off doing different things and have been replaced by a team just as talented.

    2. Grow the hell up! Selling out to console nonsense. It this elitist BS that ruins gaming, not developers making games for various platforms. The market has long since change since shareware. Most developers will release games on various platforms to generate as much revenues as possible.

        1. Growing up means mature up and not whining about things that don’t go your way……the world does revolves around you and your ‘master race’.

          1. Well guess what… Don’t like Master Race don’t come to this F’king Site XD

          2. The reality is, games cost much more to develop than they used to. Now days they HAVE to make these games multiplatform. Trust me, I miss the days when a new ID game meant mind blowing graphics and forced PC upgrades but those days are long gone and it’s nobody’s fault. It’s just the way the world works.

  4. I said it before and i will say it again. I am ready for full pc upgrade if needed to play doom 3 on max settings !!! THIS IS DOOM. MY FIRST PC GAME IN 1996. MY FIRST FPS.

    1. If what you want is to play Doom 3 on max settings, any dual core and a GeForce 3 should suffice. A game from 2004 won’t require that you upgrade your PC. 🙂

          1. I meant geforce 3 and I was totally wrong LOL. A geforce 3 could barely handle the game at 640×480 with medium settings. I remember a Geforce 4 Ti 4200 was also barely enough.

Yeah, Geforce 6 was just perfect for Doom 3.

  5. Are these screenshots 1080P max settings? Do you think it will look like this on my GTX 970 G1 GAMING 4 GB and LG22MP55?

  6. I couldnt care less about things/words like stunning, pretty, beautiful etc we are afterall talking about a damn DOOM game here! The two first DOOM games clearly showed how you can be ugly, dirty and gritty and still a world champion.

  7. I see nothing really special about them, I don’t know maybe I have better standards to use the word stunning for.

    1. Agreed. They’re just fairly average PS4/XB1 shooter graphics. Even comparing this to other console games like Uncharted 4, these graphics are very average.

  8. I have zero confidence in this game. The speed, enemy count, AI etc. all look to have been clearly toned down to accommodate the limitations of a controller. Not to mention the weapons look pathetically underwhelming. I’ll be sticking to Brutal Doom & custom maps for my satisfying, fast paced FPS action til a competent developer picks up that torch.

  9. All these characters look way too angry. They need a hug. You should be able to upgrade your hugs.

    1. LOL 😀
There should be community mod for that…oh wait, ’em f***ers won’t allow modding like that!

      1. Their approval system seems to be quite random. Sometimes I can rant about horseshit and get it on here, the next day I say something nice with a curseword and it’s chopped lol.

        1. I’m going to increase the rate at which I comment about big butts and see where DSOG draws the line.

        1. I don’t use my brains often, but when I do it’s for the important moments. But now I have a headache and my nose is bleeding. Gotta conserve brain cells for later.

    1. Yes, blurriness and distortion. That’s what happens when you get an explosion of massive heat. Have you ever seen a heat wave before????
In this pic you posted, you can clearly see red waves throughout the surface of the floor. Look at the hand and gun that is not in the blast area. Not too blurry, huh?

      1. Look at the blood on the floor. It’s undeniable that they’re using some HL2-tier textures. I wouldn’t overrate it though, you wouldn’t notice it in movement.

        1. Yeah, I’m not concerned as much with the floor textures. But I see what you’re saying if you look directly down. They could higher rez the non tile-able floors, but they’re probably saving the hd space for the models and ‘hopefully’ size and scope of the world it’s in. Maybe it will be something they address later after fine tuning more important aspects?

One of the main things I’m looking for in this game is the level creator they showed off at E3. It looked really cool to be able to put together maps that you could play on with your friends. It better have a huge variety, or it will get stale quick.

          1. >They could higher rez the non tile-able floors, but they’re probably

            tuning more important aspects?

            I died.

          2. Size and scope of the world? Variety in the map editor? Don’t kid yourself. Just look at the footage they released so far. All of it was in corridors. I don’t think the sky was visible even once. The game obviously takes place entirely indoors just like Doom 3. It’s a shame but that’s the route they’re taking and if you hope for something different you’re going to be disappointed. The map editor has you linking prebuilt floors, walls and ceilings, and filling the resulting corridors and halls with props and spawnpoints. I know there is a visual scripting component for NPCs and event triggers and that could surely be interesting to tinker with, but the results will still take place in samey looking metallic rooms.

    2. PC version wil look much better than console version. This screenshot must be from xbox one version.

  10. I missed the “stunning” part…could you please explain that?!
WTH DSOG! Were you paid by Bethesda to publish this or what?!!
They are nice…but no where stunning. Compare these to UE4 or CryEngine, and they will look 5 years old!

  11. well, i really not sure its Prey or Doom ?? but who cares, longest they got the game right with elements from DOOM64 and Prey together back with Portals and DOOM64 level architecture design will be a seller again…

  12. 1. Lowres screenshots, who releases 1280×760 screenshots nowdays?
    2. Graphics looks very plastic.
    3. Graphics doesn’t look like much of an improvement over modded Doom 3

    4. I hope the consolized Halo-style movements improves to more PC authentic movements in the future.

  13. The Power Of The id Tech 6 Engine – Sounds cool, awesome, epic..
Well, so tell me why Megatextures is still there? Not so long ago one of DOOM developers said in interview: “Megatextures is not a part of Id Tech 6 Engine.” And that is not true.
