MGS V: Ground Zeroes Hits Steam On December 18th, Will Pack Superior Graphics, 4K Support Confirmed

Konami has officially announced today that it will release the PC version of METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES via Steam on December 18th. The company also confirmed it will be 4K compatible and will feature an increase in the number of simultaneous light sources, the number of models that can be displayed on-screen and increased shadow resolution.

According to the press release we got, METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES takes place in 1975 and sets in motion a series of events that culminate in the stunning plotlines of METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN.

“GROUND ZEROES centers on Big Boss – legendary hero and mercenary – as he infiltrates a sprawling secret prison base called ‘Camp Omega’ in Cuba on a rescue mission. He soon finds himself alone behind enemy lines with a truly non-linear mission that showcases key advances to the series made possible by its use of Kojima Productions’ FOX Engine.”

GROUND ZEROES is centered on a large open environment, with missions where time of day and weather have a dynamic effect on the game and its content.

The game offers a total freedom of movement within its missions, with users choosing how they engage guards, the route they pick, and who they rescue.

Furthermore, the game features an online global ranking system where players can compete in unique in-game and mission challenges and achievements to see how they compare against others around the world.

Enjoy!

    1. Everything above “free” is too expensive, because it’s a demo. Personally, I will wait for 50-75% off for a pack with two games. I’m a patient man.

  1. I’m really starting to get irratated by this new “it supports 4k” trend. 4k isnt a feature. Any engine not designed by idiots should allow you to use what any resolution you want. Half Life 2 “supported” 4k resolution, I can play the original Doom at 4k. Idiotic PR nonsense designed to hype up imbeciles

    1. Both yes and no, try playing jedi knight 2 at a high resolution it propably gonna crash.

Most of the time a higher resolution is a given but there are some CONSOLE games that didnt even consider that a game might run at a superior resolution at some point and they hardscripted the resolution and fps to scripted events so it can cause bugs.

    2. They mean that the uncompressed textures are at least in 4k resolution. Yes you could play Doom in 4k, but it would still look like crap because the low level resolution will just get upscaled with massive quality losses instead of being replaced by natively higher resolution ones.

      1. Texture size has nothing to do with resolution. Even a texture less game can look much better at 4k resolution.

    3. After MGR 1080p max option, 4k support for GZ is good news for many of us , it shouldn’t be news but it’s Konami after all

    4. True most games due have 4k support for the resolution but the HUD doesn’t fair so well with the large resolution. For example im playing dragon age at 4k down sampled and it would be impossible to play with out mods that increase the text size.

  2. Sony Shills getting BTFO this week.

4K Textures. Enhanced lighting and Shadows. Truly the ultimate version.

    1. Well that’s a real annoyance, I honestly don’t see why they won’t release retail,I know that retail releases can be a major overhead but it reaches so many who don’t have GB’s to download massive games.

        1. I’d rather get it digital only than not at all.

You have to look at it that way. They are trying to find a way to release console games on PC as painless and risk free as possible. By going digital only they almost guarantee a profit, no matter how badly it flops. Which I don’t think it will but it’s always a big fear when anybody is porting a console game to PC.

Ed Boon had to be hounded for months until he caved in and brought MK9 to PC only to then be surprised by how much better than expected it sold.

They all just need to get a taste and overcome those PC piracy superstitions that still run rampant in their circles.

          1. i agree i just hope some amazing games get a boxed copy for those who want to put them in the collection.

    2. It’s smart. That way they get the most revenue. They are showing the way to other console publishers. If they go digital only, they make maximum profit from every sale and have no rational reason to worry about pirates anymore.

    1. The main story “campaign” takes about an hour including cutscenes. Maybe less if you’re quick. You can play some additional scenarios on the same map after you beat the main misson, but that’s about it. Hardly worth 20$ (or was it 30$) that they asked for it on the consoles. Think MGS 2 tanker chapter that is sold separately for a ridiculous price.

  3. Supports 4k = we did f’ all to optimize textures, congrats PC master race hope you got 6gb of VRAM to run what should easily fit into 2gb…

    1. How would uncompressed textures fit in 2gb of vram? You need to learn the difference here. 4k is the number once reason you’ll deliver uncompressed textures. In 1080p in Shadow of Mordor you will barely notice a difference on Ultra and high, but all you need to do it jump up to 1440p and you’ll already notice a fairly obvious difference. At 4k this will get even more obvious.

      1. Where did I say uncompressed textures fit into 2gb of vram? You need to learn reading comprehension. Uncompressed textures are a joke. A good compression algorithm can greatly reduce vram requirements and the textures will look identical. What I am saying is they could have easily compressed the textures using a quality algorithm and reduced VRAM requirements, but it looks like they didn’t care about PC optimization which is par for the course in 2014…

        1. Supports 4k = we did f’ all to optimize textures, congrats PC master race hope you got 6gb of VRAM to run what should easily fit into 2gb

It’s the only thing you said.

The textures that fit in to your lol2gbvram is the compressed pos. Ultra=aka the uncompressed version, is for higher resolution, and looks identical at lower resolution monitors but have a major difference as that screen resolution get’s cranked up.

          1. I think you’re misunderstanding something here. High textures aren’t necessarily “compressed” compared to Ultra. They just have lower resolution. And because they have a lower resolution they will appear more blurry ingame. It doesn’t matter if you play at 1080p or 1440p, high textures will still appear blurrier than ultra if you stand close enough to that texture. But of course the difference will be easier to spot on a bigger monitor with bigger resolution.
Now, compression, if done properly, allows you to keep the same resolution and quality of a texture (or video, or audio) while redusing filesize. A well compressed textures would look the same as uncompressed in-game, but will require much less VRAM because of their reduced size. That’s what Sandy Bridge meant in his comment, I believe.

  4. lololololz.

yeah, and the neogaf console peasant forums are imploding.

“teh ps4 iz massively powahful, why dey do diz!?!?”

    1. The salt from the Sony shills is amazing.

Demfax would be going on overtime, if it wasn’t for the fact that he does it for free

  5. still no pre order or buy button on steam 🙁 i will buy it and it has both consoles exclusive DLCs in it and superoir graphics.
