Helldivers 2 took the Internet by storm when it came out. It quickly became one of Sony’s biggest PC hits, reaching a peak of 458,000 concurrent players. And now, PC players can enjoy it in a whole new way. Thanks to an amazing mod, Helldivers 2 can now be played in first person.
Going into more detail, you can play in first person while on foot, inside mechs, and while driving the FRV. Turrets and other emplacements also support first-person play. Mechs can use a glass or hidden cockpit, and you can adjust the camera to fit your style.
The mod also gives you lots of camera settings. You can change the first-person view, aim view, field of view, and mech camera position. You can also set a key to switch between first and third person.
Aiming keeps the game’s normal aim system. There is also a test option that can link the camera to the center crosshair. This can help make shots feel more natural in first person.
Mechs now have their own camera controls. The EXO-45 has separate forward, up, and side settings. You can set these to zero to place the camera at the pilot’s head.
The FRV also stays in first person while driving. Tanks are different. They switch back to third person when you enter them and stay there for a short time after you leave.
The mod also improves dives and aiming. Diving no longer gets mistaken for death, and many weapons no longer force the camera back to third person. Aim zoom is also smoother and no longer pops out during aim.
The mod always hides the player’s head in first person. However, some weapons may still block part of the view since their size and position are not always made for first-person play.
The modder is working on improving some game actions. So, don’t expect a bug-free experience. A few terminals may require you to switch to third person. Some icons may also appear in the wrong place.
Overall, this mod turns Helldivers 2 into a much more immersive first-person shooter. It gives you control over the camera while keeping the game’s normal combat and aim systems. For all Helldivers 2 veterans, this mod will let them experience the game in a completely new way.
