God of War Sons of Sparta is a new God of War game that was released exclusively on PlayStation 5. However, PC gamers can now play this GoW game on PC via KyTyPS5, which runs it at 60FPS.
God of War Sons of Sparta is a 2D pixel art action platformer that came out on February 12th, 2026. This GoW game serves as a prequel to the entire franchise. It is set during Kratos and Deimos’s youth in the brutal Spartan training camp, the Agoge.
God of War Sons of Sparta is built around fast combat. You can attack, dodge, block, and parry enemy attacks. Your main weapons are a Spartan spear and shield.
The game also has a deep weapon system. You can change parts of your spear, such as the tip, handle, and pommel. You can also change your shield rim. These parts can change your combos, skills, and parry timing. This lets you build a play style that fits you.
The game has three main meters. Health shows how much damage you can take. Spirit is used for stronger actions. Magic is used for special attacks tied to gifts from Olympus.
You can play the game alone or with another player. It also supports local two-player co-op on the same system. This gives the game a classic couch co-op feel.
There is also an endgame roguelite mode called The Pit. This mode adds an extra challenge after the main game. It gives players another reason to keep fighting and improving their skills.
In the following video, we see 34 minutes of gameplay from the game. KyTyPS5 was able to run it at 60FPS on an Intel Core i5 14400F with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060. From what I know, this is a custom fork that is not yet available to the public.
I know this is a “simple” 2D action platformer, meaning that it may not seem as impressive as what we’ve seen so far. Still, this is a brand new 2026 PS5 exclusive game that can run on KyTyPS5 at 60FPS. This is a huge deal in terms of emulating the PS5 console system.
KyTyPS5 can already run numerous PS5 games. Special/custom forks can run Demon’s Souls Remake and Astro Bot at an acceptable performance. Marvel’s Wolverine can also go in-game, and Grand Theft Auto 5 is somewhat playable.
