Yesterday, Microsoft released Halo: Campaign for those who have pre-ordered its Premium Edition. And, as I’ve reported, the game appears to be running great, at least on a high-end PC system. However, it still has a few annoying issues. The good news is that there are simple workarounds for some of them.
As the title suggests, the game currently has Chromatic Aberration and Film Grain enabled by default. Sadly, there is no in-game setting to disable them. Not only that, but Mouse Smoothing is enabled. This is perhaps the only UE5 game in which I’ve seen Mouse Smoothing. So, I don’t know what the devs have been smoking.
Thankfully, you can fix those issues by creating a custom configuration file. To do this, head to C:/Users/Username/AppData/Locals/Meteorite/Saved/Config/Windows. In that folder, create the “Engine.ini” file. Open it, and paste the following commands. Once done, save it, make it a “Read Only” file, and launch the game. And there you have it. No Chromatic Aberration, no Film Grain, and no Mouse Smoothing.
[SystemSettings]
; Film grain
r.FilmGrain=0
r.Tonemapper.GrainQuantization=0; Chromatic aberration
r.SceneColorFringeQuality=0; Extra cleanup
r.Tonemapper.Quality=0[/Script/Engine.InputSettings]
bEnableMouseSmoothing=False
bViewAccelerationEnabled=False
bDisableMouseAcceleration=True
Another annoying issue that plagues Halo: Campaign Evolved is a 30FPS lock at the cinematics. From what I know, these are pre-rendered cinematics. Still, I’d prefer an interpolation option to have them at 60FPS.
The good news is that I don’t have any frame pacing issues with them. On my PC system, I get a constant 33.33ms flat line, without any stutters or spikes. I’ve seen some people having issues with them, but I don’t know what could be causing these issues.
Finally, the game suffers from some traversal stutters. These stutters occur when the game loads new areas. Thankfully, they are not as annoying as those we’ve seen in Oblivion Remastered. So, most of you won’t be bothered by them.
Our PC Performance Analysis for Halo: Campaign Evolved will go live later this week. It will include benchmarks for a wide range of AMD and NVIDIA graphics cards. So, stay tuned for more!
