Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater feature

Metal Gear Solid 3 – Original vs Fox Engine Remake vs Unreal Engine 5 Remake

Now here is something cool. YouTube’s ‘Cycu1’ has shared a video in which he compares the original, Fox Engine Remake, and Unreal Engine 5 Remake of Metal Gear Solid 3. So, let’s take a look at it.

For those who did not know, Konami has remade a lot of the MGS3 cut-scenes in Fox Engine. But instead of a game, they used them for an MGS3 pachinko machine, which really upset fans. But hey, we at least got a faithful remake of MGS3, only this time Konami and Virtuos used Unreal Engine 5 and not the Fox Engine.

I should also note that the cut-scenes in the Unreal Engine 5 Remake are running in real-time. Those for the Fox Engine could be pre-rendered. So, this is something you should also keep in mind. This may not be an apples-to-apples comparison.

With this out of the way, let’s take a look at the video. The 3D models and the textures are significantly better in the Unreal Engine 5 Remake. However, the lighting and shadows are much better in the Fox Engine. The cut-scenes in the Fox Engine have a better art style. Hair physics are also better in the Fox Engine Remake.

As I said, I don’t know if these are pre-rendered cut-scenes. Still, the Fox Engine cut-scenes look much better than the ones in the Unreal Engine 5 Remake. You could even say they look a generation ahead.

Overall, this is a really cool video that a lot of MGS3 fans will find interesting. So, be sure to watch it.

Speaking of Metal Gear Solid 3, I suggest taking a look at these tweaks for the UE5 Remake. PC gamers can enable Hardware Lumen Ray Tracing, Ray Reconstruction, and Frame Generation on PC. Do note that you will need a high-end GPU to enable the first two features. As for Frame Gen, if you own an RTX-40 or RTX-50 series GPU, I suggest using Smooth Motion instead. I’ve tried both of them and found Smooth Motion to have fewer artifacts than Frame Gen.

You can also unlock the framerate in the PC version. By using MGSDeltaFix, you can set your framerate to whatever FPS value you want. I’ve finished the game with it and was able to fully enjoy it at 120FPS. This is a must-have mod for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.

Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

    1. Whichever you have access to. If you value the original's vision, OG looks more artistically pleasing. Also, OG controls would take some serious getting used to.

      1. Yes. While I always prefer to have native PC ports, the PC version of the original MGS3 in the Master Collection is based on the HD Collection (released in 2011 for the X360/PS3) which lacked the Ape Escape crossover game mode and probably other things that I'm unaware of.

Just a disclaimer, the Ape Escape game mode is included in this remake on the PC/PS5 versions while the Xbox version has Bomberman instead due to Ape Escape being owned by ((($oyny))).

        1. I’m honestly not bothered much since i don’t play the extras, but pcsx2 version can be made into the HD version by installing HD textures and high resolution so it is probably the most complete version of the main campaign.

        2. The PC port is fine as its now, it has modes to chnage resolution, it runs fine.
But this Unreal remake is the best

    3. Get MGS Delta, I played them all, and this one is Ace, looks the best, has modern controls, you'll enjoy it more than playing retarded PS2 semi top/side view controls

    1. Yeah, some developers think that just because they created a game franchise that makes them "great people!" and then think themselves as if they were the sole developers of the entire game while all the other hundreds of programmers who worked for whatever game that nobody even knows their names had nothing to do other than just listen and obey as they watch these narcissists take all the credits for themselves.

      1. What are you ranting about? How did Kojima "take all the credit" for himself? There are literally credits in all of his games crediting everyone who worked on them.

      2. He doesn't strike me as too narcisistic, even with his self inserts. On the other hand people wants to force humility into talented people as if their accomplishment makes others recentful.

      3. What the f*k are you ranting about? How did Kojima "take all the credit" for himself? There are literally credits in all of his games crediting everyone who worked on them.

      4. This is literally just your own self insert opinion, Harry Gregson-Williams and Yoji Shinkawa are both very well known from MGS.
The only reason Kojima himself is well known at all is because of MGS fans having a cult of personality around him, the man doesn't even speak english I have no idea how you think he would "take all the credit".

    2. What's there to be sorry about Kojima? If anything being fired from Konami was the best thing to happen to his career since he wanted to ditch this franchise for so long.

  1. "But hey, we at least got a faithful remake of MGS3"

Obligatory John is stupid post. Not feeling creative with an insult right now, if anyone are inspired, drop it in the replies.

  2. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater….. now sits at only 6,000 concurrent players on Steam.

I have never seen a faster player dropoff except for maybe Death Stranding.

2 out of 3 players stopped playing this $80 game within 1 day.

Kojima is a giant hack and Metal Gear is massively overrated.

    1. It's because this is just the same game that we've all already played but with a new coat of paint + terrible PC port with barely any basic PC features such as as 120+ FPS (as is always expected from almost every dumb and incompetent hack job developer nowadays).

      1. It's not the same game, they tweaked mechanics, dumbed down AI while modernizing controls making the game challange trivial.

        1. They made the game better!
There is no challenge if you have bad controls, thats not how you do challenge .
MGS4 had modern controls too, its a great game

          1. It isnt, it just looks this way because everything else was updated, they said its exactly the same old AI

          2. Who’s “they”? And i just caught you lying, if you make the Main Character more proficient while not balancing the AI to account for that, them you trivialize the challange. Add to that the AI being more dumbed down compared to the original and you got yourself a cakewalk of a game.

          3. They the devs.
Lying? again with your retardation, you think like a school-kid, “oy! ill my mom your lying”
Who said they made main character more proficient? they only introduced modern controls, thats it, everything else is cosmetic.

          4. >Main character now have the ability to walk and aim in 3rd person view.
            >Main character now have more spatial awaraness due to modern 3rd person controls
            >Main character can now crouch walk, making stealth easier
            >Added quicktime events in the Boss fight.

If the enemy AI is at best in vanilla state (it isn’t), them they are at a disadvantage, the game broke with the ballance set in the original.

            “They the devs.”

So the devs lied, happens all the time, the only question is if you are just parroting what they said uncritically or if you are complicit with their lies.

” again with your retardation, you think like a school-kid”
That’s a rather naive take spiced with edgy angst. You think like a pre-school kid.

          5. Naive take is living a life and always looking at who lies and who didnt.
People like you are easily butt hurt, especially at work and just life, if someone promised you something and forgot about it,, thats like “WW3” for you, he “lied”, he “scammed me” and whah whah sup sup
Sadly I have experience with such people, your type analyzes everything people tell him, takes words for granted, no measure of humor is allowed, very hard people to work with and probably to live with.
Everything you listed about main character is related to modern controls and camera.
I Looked up MGS3 Delta guide, there is no word about quick time events at final boss fight [maybe its cinematic after you done with her as conclusion to the fight like some games do, but its for sure NOT part of the actual fight]
Reddit says the new boss fight is harder “Her new CQC timing is harder and of course her new mechanic of destroying your gun”

This whole discussion is dumb, even if they made the game easier, say they did, hows that bad or chnages the game story?
Play the game in hard mode if normal is too easy

          6. “Naive take is living a life and always looking at who lies and who didnt.”

Sounds like you get taken for a ride a lot in life, i’m not interested in your coping mechanisms.

“Everything you listed about main character is related to modern controls and camera.”
Except crouch walking and walking while aiming, which wasn’t possible in the original. Yeah those things make the game easier.

“Reddit says the new boss fight is harder”

            lol, reddit.

“This whole discussion is dumb, even if they made the game easier, say they did, hows that bad or chnages the game story?”

Because challange is fun and removing challange makes the game not fun. It also undermines the story, you are fighting against an elite force that’s not meant to be steamrolled.

“Play the game in hard mode if normal is too easy”

This wall of text just to agree with me in the end? Weak.

          7. Yep you are that type of people, always whining, always butt hurt and “everybody is a cheater” that why you obsessed with Jews like your friend brucy the cumswalower, since you always need “someone to blame” for being such a loser.

I dont need white or cope, because somehow all this sh*t never happens to me, [I wonder why LOL]
Your world view is completely negative and even if you win in lottery you’ll be b*ching and moaning that why you didnt win more

I dint agree with you, I pointed that you whining is pointless game provides you with BOTH hard mode and ……. CLASSICAL mode, you can play with broken retro camera as much as you want

Stop being such stiff bore and people will like you

    2. That's normal when you consider the fact that the all time peak is 19,634

Not to mention, there isn't really a demand for console exclusives on PC.
Tlou and uncharted sold like t*rd, no one wants console trash on PC.

    3. The game sold 1,000,000 copies at launch. For a full-priced game, that's a remake, and of a somewhat obscure game at that, those are great figures. Also MGS is one of the greatest game franchises of all time, and your opinion is trash.

    4. Virtually all singleplayer only titles have a dropoff like that
GoW Reloaded peaked at only 4800 on day 1 and within a week the game had lows below 500, and it has multiplayer.

  3. It really is a shame that Fox Engine was never allowed to shine any further than Konami's soccer games (PES/WE) & MGSV (the glorified demo of Ground Zeroes being the overall better game than the Phantom Pain with arguably the most stupid plot twist ever).

Unfortunately, the Fox Engine was already doomed in 2015 when the French lead developer left Konami because the Japanese CEO decided to focus on the much more lucrative mobile games market (iOS & Android).

For a short summary, here's the Gemini AI overview from a Google search:

    1. These closed engines are worth as much as the companies behind them are willing to work with. Love it or hate it, Epic Games UE dominates because they license engine to other devs and make it user friendly.

      1. True, and personally, I think it makes zero sense to not release the source code of an abandoned game engine like idSoftware used to do up until idTech 4 (back when the legendary John Carmack was still there).

I mean, it's a sunken cost anyway, so if you have no interest in further development, just open-source the damn thing and let the community have some fun with it.

But no, intellectual property rights and all that BS…

  4. "However, the lighting and shadows are much better in the Fox Engine."
First minute in, gotta love a sun that barely casts any light or shadows…

Also, the Fox cutscenes aren't pre-rendered. They look like MGS V's, which runs in real-time. I don't see any visual quality uplift to indicate otherwise.

      1. Original did, I never played the original on PS2, back than i preferred JRPGs and RPGs
My only MGS3/MGS2 experience was the psVITA collection and now soon on PC
I do own that HD collection for PS3, never played it
And I have last years MGS2 and MGS3 HD PC re-releases, not as full collection with 2d games, but separately .
Cant wait for Collection v2 with MGS4, i have this game running 4K on emulator, but rather get normal PC release even if its same textures and models, just for ease of use.

          1. Im more of a MGS4 fan, played it first.
As I said I played MGS3 and MGS2 on Vita, it had a refined control scheme with touch that helped a lot, like choose from sub menu and all that

          2. Sounds like you are just a spoiled kid that don’t know when to shut up when the elders are talking.

  5. I must be crazy because I think both the original and Delta look better than the pre-render version. I mean, the fury cutscene is a great example of why. You can see Snakes reflection in the fury's visor in both the original and Delta, but it's absent in the pre-render version.

Also the color palette is significantly more faithful to the original in Delta. I wouldn't agree that the lighting is any better in the FE version, either. I much prefer the look of the OG version and Delta, but that's just me.
