The Blood of Dawnwalker feature-2

Here are 20 minutes of pre-beta gameplay from the new action adventure RPG by former The Witcher devs

Rebel Wolves has released a video showing 20 minutes of early gameplay from their new action-adventure RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker. The team is made up of former developers of The Witcher, and you can really see that in the gameplay. So, let’s check it out.

The Blood of Dawnwalker will be a single-player open-world dark fantasy vampire action RPG. The game will be using Unreal Engine 5, and it will come out on current-gen platforms.

In the game, you play as Coen. Coen is a young man turned into a Dawnwalker, forever treading the line between the world of day and the realm of night.

Players will use their skills and combine vampiric strength with human resolve as they take on a quest to save the ones they love. They will face their foes – be they human, monster, or the ticking clock itself.

And here is a crucial detail. According to the devs, players will have 30 in-game days to complete the main story. Moreover, time will move forward every time you do something important.

This gameplay video shows pretty much everything you’d expect. It shows some of the game’s combat, some exploration, and a city. It also gives us a glimpse at the vampiric abilities that players will have.

The over-the-shoulder camera and the environments will immediately remind you of The Witcher 3. The HUD is also almost identical to the one we saw in TW3. Plus, Coen’s hair is identical to Geralt’s.

Now while this appears to have a lot of potential, I kind of hope the devs will significantly polish its combat system. Right now, the combat feels clunky and pretty bad. This is mostly to the combat/reaction animations. And I know, this is pre-beta footage. Still, this is the first thing that will catch your attention. The combat right now feels clunky and not that exciting.

As a big single-player fan, I’m really looking forward to this RPG. As I said, it has a lot of potential. So, here is hoping that Revel Wolves will not drop the ball.

The Blood of Dawnwalker will be coming to PC in 2026. So, the devs will, most likely, have the time to further polish it. Or at least I hope so.

Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

    1. Well, think of it as the stage between alpha and beta (in other words, post-alpha but pre-beta).

  1. I was hyped after the first trailer but…oh boy it looks bad. Camera is the worst & combat is twice as clunky and cumbersome. I agree its pre-beta but the path they're going is eventually what this game will be and its…not enjoyable. Oh & don't ask about graphics. Witcher 2 beats this game in graphics. UE5 s*cks & always will

  2. VERY typical 2020s game.
I mean that it seems to try to be everything, and in the end, I bet that it'll excel in NOTHING.
The RPG elements will be subpar, stealth will be extremely basic, parkour (that seems to be a thing?) will feel incomplete, etc.

Judging from that video, there's some gameplay elements of Dishonored, VTMB, and maybe even Kingdom Come Deliverance, like one of the comments on Youtube says.
I don't understand developers who try too hard to please everybody. In the end, you please nobody.

This is the exact same thing that happens with woke stuff in games.
And speaking of which, I'm also very worried about that, cos if that developer follows that logic of pleasing everybody, then it's going to be woke as hell.

I'm playing Risen 1 again recently.
God I forgot how Piranha Bytes games used to rule over everything.
And that's an extremely janky game. Literally everything is broken.🤣
And yet it's a million times better than any RPG released in the past decade.
In fact, being broken is great cos it's almost an "immersive sim", as in, emergent gameplay happens ALL the time in Risen. You can exploit so many mechanics.
Whether the developers intended it or not, I don't care.
It's very difficult to come back to the pathetic state of 2020s gaming after playing that.

    1. I really enjoyed risen 2 and plan on playing 3, soon. I'm a sucker for B-Tier Passion projects. Developer "Spiders" is one of my Favs…."Mars: War Logs" & "Technomancer" are like reading a great scifi novel.

  3. I really hate when they try to make the sword/melee system more than it should ACTUALLY be. It's like that game For Honor all over again. We just wanna hit a button and have the sword kill something, all this up, down and sideways nonsense is just a blatant turn off. I was very excited for this game and now it just went from a 10 to a 2. Not everything has to be this overly complicated mess.

    1. And not everything needs to be a simplified mess either, there is a place for every game and to be honest, complicated games are in the minority.

It's been so long, nice to see you again, hope you're good bro

      1. Yes, we still alive brother. Good to see you too. I agree on not everything needs to be simplified. But certain mechanism doesn’t belong in certain places. This took me right out of the game. I’m a vampire, means auto fuq sh*t up. Thinking and strategy is for filthy humans.

      1. That melee system is trash. It’s BULL$HIT with extra steps. That, I seriously don’t care for.

  4. All the time and money and media coverage to strike out and do something really different, their vision, their rules. And they choose to make discount Witcher 3.

  5. Why release this "pre beta" footage???
the game already had a GREAT level of hype and name recognition going, plus release is far off…..?

I remember that rumor about some Chinese company pulling back from investment in western developers( rebel wolves being one). I wonder if that's why they released this 20 minute video… to try to drum up funding… because this video did not do the games reputation any good…. just look at these comments…..Gamers can't see how games are made, they look like garbage till last 20% development..(I'm guilty, my excite lvls dropped)
