Rise of the Ronin April 10th Patch Released, Packing Performance Optimization Improvements

KOEI Tecmo and Team Ninja have released the April 10th Patch for Rise of the Ronin, which features a number of performance optimizations. So, let’s see what this new update brings to the table.

The April 10th Update, also known as Patch 1.09.0.3, has optimization improvements for rendering to reduce overall VRAM usage. It also comes with optimization improvements on GPU performance for Ambient Occlusion and Upscaling. So, in theory, the game should run better now than before.

It will be interesting to see whether the devs will keep improving the game’s performance. Right now, I won’t be re-testing RotR. However, I’ll be sure to check out its performance in one or two months.

The devs have also added a new graphics setting, Dynamic Adjustment of FPS. This option will change your framerate dynamically according to performance for a consistent gameplay experience.

It’s also worth noting that the patch fixes a weird issue where CPU load could increase significantly when Audio Output settings were set to “Surround” or “3D Audio Effects”, while the spatial sound was disabled in Windows sound settings. As such, CPU load should be lower now with these settings.

Moreover, the April 10th Patch comes with a number of bug fixes. For instance, it fixes visual noise issues during a specific cut scene. It also fixes an issue where the game would get stuck loading after restoring public order. Plus, it fixes an issue where the game would occasionally crash when switching languages during gameplay.

Like always, Steam will download this update the next time you launch its client. Below you can find its complete changelog.

  1. Fixed an issue where NPCs would appear without their heads being displayed

    Hehe.

Now, that's one weird/funny glitch to be honest. Glad they are fixing some of the bugs/issues.

But regardless of the current optimization/graphics and some performance issues, it's a nice fun game, imho. I have been enjoying it lately.

More like this: Nioh meets Wo Long in perfect synergy. But the game definitely has the potential and there's room for improvement as well.

It has been overshadowed lately by Ghost of Tsushima/GOT though. I'm saying this because a lot of peeps are comparing this with GOT which isn't fair in my opinion.

    1. I'm not very fond of these type of games, but I enjoyed Ghost of Tsushima thouroughly. How does it compare to Tsushima?

      1. Hey there, well, actually I have not personally played Ghost of Tsushima yet though, but I have watched few gameplay walkthrough videos on YT.

And from what I can tell is that RONIN's gameplay has a different take on combat and the style.

Of course, there might be some similarities, but IMO, both games still vary differently in terms of gameplay.

Because a lot of gamers started comparing Ronin with GOT, and obviously a slew of negative feedback started to flow across the internet.

They might be also correct to some extent, since I'm no expert myself when it comes to these type of action games, but I think RONIN deserves a special place in the gaming hierarchy as other PC titles of late.
