Ubisoft has just released the official story trailer for its upcoming Assassin’s Creed game, Assassin’s Creed Shadows. As its title suggests, this trailer focuses on the game’s story. So, make sure to watch it if you are interested in it.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows takes place in 16th-century Japan during the Azuchi-Momoyama era. In this game, you will live the intertwined stories of Naoe and Yasuke. Against the backdrop of the turbulent late Sengoku period, this duo will discover their common destiny as they usher in a new era for Japan.
The game promises to have spectacular castle towns, bustling ports, peaceful shrines, and pastoral landscapes. Ubisoft also claims that AC: Shadows will have unpredictable weather, changing seasons, and reactive environments.
Earlier this month, Ubisoft shared some videos that showcased the exploration and new parkour system of this new AC game. In December 2024, it also shared more details about its combat mechanics. So, I suggest reading those articles.
Finally, AC: Shadows will not require a mandatory internet connection to play. However, it will be using the Denuvo anti-tamper tech. Since this is Assassin’s Creed we’re talking about, I don’t expect Ubisoft to remove it via a post-launch update. That’s a bummer but hey, it is what it is.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be released on March 20th.

At the very least I'm very interested to see what they've done with the additional time for this. Previews do seem good but I do wonder how much they've put into the narrative and story considering how you can supposedly play 90% of the game as just a single character and what that split may have been before the delay. It's the first AC that i've actually been interested enough in to check out since the first so Im just going to be hopeful.

Trust me, the backlash has a lot to do with racism. AC has never been 100% historically accurate but I understand where the outrage is coming from to a certain extent.
There's nothing inherently wrong about depicting Yasuke in this fashion but the problem comes with the timing. People wanted to see a Japanese man as the lead role for this game. That's understandable considering how long many have waited for this moment.
But in all honesty, people wouldn't even be half as mad if they casted a masculine white protagonist with charisma instead of Yasuke or any other black guy for that matter. It is what it is. People are intrinsically racist but they try to be sly about it and make up excuses and gaslight you for questioning their stance.
No people would not be mad because of what you call white would be in the game ,because japan had connection with countries such as Portugal and Portuguese history has tons of legends that could fit perfectly on a assassins creed game .

I have no desire to change how other people think. Calling them out on their behaviour by using certain key words is not some kind of manipulation tactic to try to make them fold. At least not by me. The word racism, by definition, is an umbrella term for things like discrimination, intolerance, xenophobia, etc. You described it yourself by explaining your own personal experience with it.
The word may be weaponised by some to cause certain people to back down but the word alone, no matter the origin, has a specific meaning to it which can be valid to use depending on the circumstance. The word ‘gay’ used to mean something else in the past but morphed entirely over the years. Definitions change.
Like I said in my previous post, I get the complaints to a certain extent, from those who are coming from a place where their intentions are pure. My comment was directed at those who use We Wuz Kangs types of memes to ridicule blacks whenever they’re being portrayed in a more positive and less stereotypical light. This happens all the time. These people come out the woodwork in large numbers and completely turn these situations into something much uglier than it was before. Complaining about something is fine but resorting to mocking an entire race for it can never be justified. I call it racism but if you wanna be politically correct about it and use an alternative term then that’s fine by me.
The fact that they could use a white man for this game doesn’t change my mind about how the audience would have responded. Of course the journalists would be the ones doing their typical coordinated attacks, but most of the gamers complaining about Yasuke on sites like this would be silent if Ubisoft just went with a fictional white man who happens to be a samurai. But again, the timing is off. If this was made maybe 10, 15 or even 20 years ago we wouldn’t be seeing this same kind of backlash I think. It’s just because of the political turmoil that’s going on these days in the world. However, I still believe Yasuke should have just been reserved for a standalone DLC if anything. That would have mitigated most of the problem I think.
