As promised, Turn10 released Update 15 for Forza Motorsport which adds support for RTGI on PC. Thus, the PC version now supports RT Reflections, RTAO and RTGI. So, it’s time now to benchmark these ray-traced effects and see how the game runs with them on a high-end PC.
For these 4K benchmarks, we used an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D with 32GB of DDR5 at 6000Mhz, and the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090. We also used Windows 10 64-bit, and the GeForce 566.14 driver. I know there is a new driver for the game. Moreover, we’ve disabled the second CCD on our 7950X3D.
Without any Ray Tracing effects, Forza Motorsport runs with an average of 112FPS at Native 4K/Ultra with DLAA. With Full RT Reflections and RTAO, our performance drops to 84FPS. And then, with all the Ray Tracing effects enabled, including RTGI, we drop to 55FPS.
Forza Motorsport supports NVIDIA DLSS, but there is only one “Auto” option for it. By enabling it, we were able to boost our performance to 100FPS. That’s with all the RT effects enabled. So, with DLSS, it is possible to run RT Reflections, RTAO and RTGI with high framerates on an NVIDIA RTX 4090.
The problem with RTGI, at least in this game, is that its visual enhancements are not that noticeable. Here are two screenshots at night. The left screenshot is without any Ray Tracing effects, whereas the right is with all the RT effects. In theory, the game should look significantly better at night with RT. However, the visual improvements are minimal at best.
If I had to guess, I’d say Turn10 did an excellent job with the real-time non-RT GI of Forza Motorsport. This is why RTGI does not make a transformational change. That, or there is something really wrong with the RTGI implementation. The point is that a lot believed that RTGI would make a huge difference. It does not. In fact, it’s a bit disappointing
It’s also worth noting that Forza Motorsport does not support DLSS 3 Frame Generation. That’s a shame. With a base framerate of 55FPS, DLSS 3 Frame Gen could improve performance without adding any major input latency issues.
In my opinion, if you own an RTX 4090, you can experiment with RTGI. That is provided you use DLSS Auto. However, don’t expect this to be the next Metro: Exodus Enhanced Edition.
Enjoy!

All I see is less FPS for no reason.
so much FPS loss and no real improvement. Why bother anyway?!
Why not? At least to try it … Plus this update is probably a step towards something better but clearly we need mo powah baby
Frame generation seems to be built into the game but they never enabled it as an option. It can be turned on by adding the dll files and changing a line in the ini file. I don't think the path tracing option looks any better though and it is not worth the performance drop.
I don't think it's path tracing but… I didn't hit up muh boy Google to double check. That said this update would be the one needed to eventually dial up to path tracing quality. Unfortunately so many more rays with more bounces uses a lot more juice. Only remedy has really pulled PT off without issues..
i mean I can play Alan Wake 2 maxed out at 4k DLAA no FG & full path tracing at 80fps all day long with the lowest dips being in the mid 70s. The game is gorgeous & Remedy once again proves why they are Remedy
You are right I meant the RTGI option.
Modded frame gen in this game is full of artifacts. Lsfg is an option but it is fairly demanding itselfdropping the base frame rate 20% or so at times.
Forza 7 still looks better
Yes it does but no it doesn't.. it's a fickle mistress but on a technical level 7 doesn't look better.. unfortunately from an art level it does. It's weird that it happened after t10 being basically rock solid with every game since the first.. this should have been an easy upgrade win them & I really wish we would get the story into what we went wrong, where, when and why
Forza Motorsports: One of the greatest failures of this decade. I still regret purchasing this game when it came out. I don't understand how Turn10 fell so low….. Playground Games at least gave us competent racing in Forza Horizon 5. How this game is still crap shows it was nothing but lies….. "Built from the ground up!", not-so-much, eh.
T10 has always had a pretty solid lighting model and the nature of racing games makes seeing additional accuracy for RTGI a bit less simple as it is in other games. I wonder if settings for additional tweaks still exist in those folders..yes I know that's very helpful but TBF I haven't slept since Friday (it's Tuesday night) so I'm not in the mood to look them up on Eurogamer lol
They must have taken out the dlss options because they had more than just ‘auto’ before.
