At its State of Play 2024 event, Sony officially announced a remaster for Horizon: Zero Dawn. Horizon: Zero Dawn came out on PC in 2020. And, at least in my opinion, this is one of the most unnecessary and pointless remasters I can think of.
According to Sony, the remaster will have better 3D models, shaders and textures. Moreover, it will have new conversations mocap and improved cameras. And, well, that’s it. No Ray Tracing. Just some tweaks here and there.
Now I’m certain that in a side-by-side comparison, we will be able to see some slight improvements. However, you can already get those “better” shaders by using a Reshade. Not only that but you can also add screen-space RTGI and RTAO. These alone can make, in some places, the original game look better than the remaster.
At this point, PC gamers can start using Reshade to “remaster” all the latest games. I mean, that’s almost what Sony is doing right now. So, we can get one step ahead and create HD Remasters that even current-gen consoles may not be able to match. How ironic is this?
And I really don’t get why Sony decided to remaster the first Horizon. Is this a result of their failed GaaS strategy? Are they “remastering” PS4 games – as it’s easier to do it – so that they can quickly increase their profits? It simply does not make sense.
Anyway, the good news here is that the remaster will be offered at $9.99 for those who already own it. And again. I don’t really see the point of upgrading to it. It’s not like you’ll get a generational leap. You’ll simply get some minor graphical improvements. So, why should any PC gamer purchase the upgrade?
At least Sony did not reveal a remaster of Days Gone at its event. There were rumors these past few days that we’d be getting a Days Gone Remaster. And while it may be in development, Sony has not officially revealed it. Days Gone is another game that does not need a remaster, at least on PC.

Wrong John. They probably got a loan discount to make the female Samurai game by adding LBGT content to the original Horzon game. Any cutscenes that showed her butt or anything have probably been removed as well or camera angles changed. See Mass Effect Legendary.

Mods fix their changes. There is a Miranda butt shot restoration. They also have a new ending mod that is pretty much perfect and post citadel game DLC. Those are on Nexus.
When looking for mods Nexus removes try basedmods, moddinghaven and rpghq. They have things like changing the voice of SIRona in Harry Potter back to the obvious female voice. The character looks like it was just a pitchedit to try to appease the transcrowd who boycotted the game anyways lol.

Aloy had a really pretty tummy, and the fire carja suit displayed that very well in the first game. Wouldn't put it past them to cut it out as it was in the 2nd. Well, it wasn't technically cut out but made very hard to find, most of her outfits on the 2nd game she's covered head to toe.

The fire Carja suit is available in Forbidden West and unlike Zero Dawn you can transmog it over a set that has the specs you want. I used it for over 75% of my playthrough

If i remember correctly,when PS4 was on par with Ps5 in releases,Ps5 games were 10$ more than ps4 versions.
Ubisoft offered ps5 versions for free,but every other game taxed 10$.
Ghost of tsushima director's cut,Death Stranding DC,Callisto protocol was 10$ extra for ps5…i tell you is the name,remaster that bothers,but the package is the same as for any other games since ps5,instead 60$ ps4 was/is 70$ for PS5.
The practice of charging for different versions of games between ps4 and ps5 is incredibly scummy, since most of the changes are already enabled by the hardware that you bought and paid for. Modern sony is just the worst,

This series is the Avatar movies for videogames in terms of cultural impact, i don't believe is as popular as Sony (and journos) claim to the point of having a remake less than a decade later. Sony has no shame.

HEY someone has to make alloy uglier, just like the last of us remaster.
Anyway the idea they gonna "remaster" a game from 2017 is hilarious to me, bro i still havent played alot of games from 2014.
Also i did not like the games graphics due too too many effects like lens flare blinding me. The gameplay is meh and the side quests are trash with woke crap sprinkled on top. The campaign is mostly about humans and while i did not like most of the filler blah blah in the game, i gotta say the ending was perfect and spot on, but i did not like the game, i think it would be better if it was a linear action adventure game without bows and more interesting weapons. Get rid of the filler crap and the woke nonsense. Second game seems to go the other way and make everything worse, so i have no interest of playing , i pushed myself to finish the game after giving up on it for month, it took 80 hours to do everything and then went to the ending, you see the game tells you that finish up any side stuff before the last mission.
Reviewers said the map feels large and natural with the different biomes, nope not true and that the game did not have an overcrowded map with too much unnecessary crap to do, again nope, again 80 hours.

It got a remastered version. It is the PS5 Legacy of Thieves collection and had the same price at release…10$ for upgrade if you owned Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy.

It is a $10 upgrade for Steam owners of the game and upgrades the game to the sequels visuals. For full price I agree it would have been pointless for existing owners but as a $10 upgrade it is far from pointless.
They said $10 upgrade for PS4 owners, but maybe they will offer the same upgrade option on PC.
I bought the original game on Steam for a cheap price and only played it for maybe an hour, so the $10 upgrade option would be a good deal for me. The game looks a lot better based on the trailer. John is crazy to suggest that reshade is enough to make the original game look better (Reshade cannot upgrade assets, and more advanced screenspace effects like RTGI have ugly artifacts).
They moved the game to the newer engine, Reshade can only do post processing effects and is often buggy.
So I agree that John has lost his mind to suggest this is a useless remaster that Reshade can achieve.
Reshade is great and can improve overall visuals quite alot honestly. I use it for almost every game.
However I agree that it's completely nonsense claiming that reshade can achieve what the devs did with this remaster. As reshade is not able to add better mocap, new animations, better character models, improved cutscenes (and added animations along the better character models), more fidelity (like added grass etc.) or new recorded dialog.
Maybe John should have first watched some comparison videos and get better informed as they show quite well that this is not just a cheap resolution improvement remaster or anything like that.
You can still argue about if this remaster is really needed as the original still looks beautiful but his statements in the mentioned regards are just wrong.
And personally I don't understand why people always complain. There are people who didn't play the game yet, I don't see any reason why the shouldn't be able to play the game in the best quality possible. Also some people may want to play it again and whats wrong if they can decide to enjoy it with even better graphics than the original?
10$ is a pretty fair price for an upgrade like this as well in my opinion. And for those who don't want or need it, simply don't buy it. You can still keep and play the original as far as I know.
And for those complaining they should instead bring a new game, I'm pretty sure they are already working on it since quite a while and this is just a filler in between, so I don't think there is any need to worry..rather they may have less pressure releasing their new game to soon and having more time to polish and take their time to make it good. So it may even benefit as it may help them for their new game.
The equivalent of the movie Avatar in video games. Style without substance. I could not get into the story no matter how much I tried. Fantastic from a tech perspective. Remaster was not need it. The only thing bad that I remember were the facial expressions. Also the water and the reflections were a bit simplistic.
The story is alright, for game standards. And yes, the woke setting. But gameplay however is pretty good. You can see from a game like this that there are very different groups within these dev houses awkward glued together desperately trying to coexist.

true 100% but credit where its due the ending is perfect, it took me months to finish the game because i wasnt enjoy it, there is so much filler and padding and that applies to the story as well, the story seems to have been made for a 1 hout and 40 minutes movie and they dragged that out to 80 hours of gameplay.

It's because of the lack of exclusives for the PS5 so they are upgrading old PS4 games to make up for the lack of original PS5 titles. If they do a PS5 remaster alongside a PC remaster it won't cost much in time and resources and they need the PC market now to make up for the weak game sales for the PS5. Consoles are basically sold at cost or even a loss and they make the money back by selling games and services. If you don't sell games and services you can't turn a profit. Part of the reason a PS5 Pro costs as much as it does is they don't have enough 1st party games to sell so they were forced to sell the Pro at a profit instead of cost. If they had enough new exclusive games coming out to support it then it likely would have been $100 cheaper
Reshade RTGI is pretty dodgy in this game and causes shadowing in foggy areas and with the always on DoF in cutscenes

Draw distance for dynamic shadows is very low on pc with maxed settings. Are they updating the pc version or just ps5?

Hopefully this remaster fixes that annoying graphics lighting/shadow bug where its like random oil slick patches in the open world where you walk into it and Allloy will turn black, and least the transition from gameplay to cutscene should look good now and not glitchy

It's quite dangerous to let western devs in charge of "improving" characters, mocap, voice lines, etc. Even on a western developed game, you pick a downgrade at your own risk, and the game world will become gayer, uglier and less white.
Why pointless? The last of us was remastered. Skyrim was re-re-released. I enjoyed Horizon. I'll play trough it again.

This is the game that turned me against Sony… the blatant man hate is constant, The FIRST side mission is help a Stupid father and save his young daughter.. Oh wait the daughter is a WaRRiOr who needs no help and she saves her father, no help needed. NEVER before have I skiped cutscenes…..80 hrs in i'd had enough….skip… I remember the audiologs near the end was all women talking tough and S.T.E.M nonsense and ALL the men were crying and weak. some Chad needs to do a Based YT breakdown.
