Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy 16 will be officially coming to PC on September 17th, and there is a PC demo that you can download right now. Moreover, the publisher shared the game’s official PC system requirements. So, let’s take a look at them.
Let’s start with the basics. Final Fantasy XVI will be using the Denuvo anti-tamper tech on PC. Moreover, it won’t have any Ray Tracing effects. However, NVIDIA has told us that it will support DLSS 3 (with Frame Generation) at launch.
To run the game, PC gamers will at least need an AMD Ryzen 5 1600 or Intel Core i5-8400 with 16GB of RAM and an AMD Radeon RX 5700 or Intel Arc A580 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070. These PC specs will be enough for 30fps at 1280×720. The game will also require 170GB of free disk space. Yep, you read that right. You’ll need 170GB of free disk space. Not only that but the publisher recommends an SSD.
Square Enix recommends using an AMD Ryzen 7 5700X or Intel Core i7-10700 with 16GB of RAM and an AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT or NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080. This will be enough for gaming with 60fps at 1080p.
As said, SE has also released a PC demo which you can download from this link. I’m currently downloading it, so we’ll have a separate article about its performance. Will the NVIDIA RTX 4090 be able to offer a Native 4K experience at 60fps? We’ll soon find out.
Finally, Square Enix shared this PC trailer. So, be sure to check it out.
Enjoy!

170gb hard drive space…holy sh*t
This game doesn't have RT even on PS5, don't know where you got that idea. This game runs on the Final Fantasy XIV engine.
All in game cut-scenes are locked to 30FPS.
Nice job square.
Denuvo, to protect this turd. This thing was on sale for PS5, on disc at that, for $25 last week. 😆
Square Enix never fails to make people scratch their head in wonder. Never change, SE.
its weird how the remake had no denuvo and it was 70 bucks.
What is with games file sizes lately? First Ragnarök(190 GB) now this 170 GB. At this point, gotta get another 4 TB SSD
nvmes on consoles allow for very high transfer rates so they dont compress anything.
Go for it it! 😆
what was the last time they made a good final fantasy game? 10?-12?
F##K### RPG Sh##it Games !!!
We want FPS Hardcore games =
Halfe Life 3
Painkiller 2
FEAR Remastered
Call of Duty 1 & 2 remastered
Project IGI Remake
Red Faction 1 & 2 Remake + New Red Faction 3 (not the garbage Armageddon &
Guerilla )
Quake 5
Medal of Honor
Call of juarez
New Resistance (ex-PS3)
New Killezone (ex-PS3)
Brothers in Arms
……….. etc
Sure…because what the industry is missing is remasters and remakes…ffs
Go play Fortnite Sh*t !! you ret*rd !!!
What Fornite has to do with what i said? that's not even a game…but a glorify chat room. Keep asking for remasters and remakes like the seal you are.
At least i asked for REAL GAMES FOR REAL DUDES !! like the old times when i was gaming on My PC in 2004 ( Doom3 – HL2- FarCry – Painkiller – Unreal Tournament 2004 …. etc), Now games are for f*ggs and M##F##LGBT Sh##t. Take an exemple of Sony and Guerilla Games they killed the most beautiful FPS ever created Killzone 2 & 3( beside Crysis !!) and what they make instead : A pile of crap open world Bullshit game “Horizon” just to make feminists and woke(ist) happy to serve a dark agenda !! F*k’em !! i just want killzone 2 or 3 or 4 ……….. a single-player FPS Action-Game , or Quake 5 sequel , HL3 with new Source3 engine …….. i know it’s far far far fetched dream but i’m not alone and every true gamer will have the same opinion as mine, gaming is dead (if u aren’t aware of that!!).
60 FPS at 1080p expected? https://media0.giphy.com/media/I8nepxWwlEuqI/giphy-downsized-small.mp4
Storage: 170 GB available space
At this rate in 2026/2027 we are going to face our first 1TB games.
We're well on our way. I have heard Ark: Survival Evolved with expansions and maps takes up 400 GB of storage. There are already quite a few games that take up over 200 GB. It didn't seem like that long ago when a 1 TB drive was plenty.
HDD requirements are a joke these days. Just drop your games ssd packed already and you can charge twice
Could be an interesting return of physical media, lol.
Cant wait to play. Like the Change from Turn based to Real time action in FF games. Gotta playtest the demo first to see if my PC can even handle it.
Gonna check this tonight! but will probably not buy till its like $20ish.
edit: no epic exclusivity is kinda crazy too
So not even Timmy saw it worthy to pay Square an extra? Poor square…
Square Enix CEO said something about ending exclusivities a few months ago, I thought he was referring to console exclusivities but looks like he was talking about Epic too, we'll know for sure when FF7 Rebirth is announced.
same, guess the epic wasnt trying to throw them a big enough bone for it either when it came out recently that exclusivity isnt the greatest for them either.
For those concerned with ever growing game sizes:
File-systems on Linux like BTRFS support compression at the system-level, which can reduce those ridiculous numbers quite effectively.
For example, it managed to reduce Nioh from ~80GB down to ~30GB, which had the nice side-effect of reducing the load times from a microSD card.
Keep looking forward to get your hands on technical innovations like this via SteamOS one day…
If it wasn't for game compatibility, I would download Linux on my gaming pc. I love the steamos on steamdeck. Valve is the only thing that can fix Linux gaming in future.
With my 100Mbit/s connection, downloading a 170GB game would take me 5 hours.
Just to play a 6/10 RPG? Nope.
You can do something else while the game download.
Sure. You can argue this about shader compilation too, or about loading times etc.
Yet, all of this causes friction between the player and the game. At 170GB many people will be forced to redownload the game more than once, due to SSD size constraints forcing them to uninstall it. That's why I much prefer Unity over bloated Unreal Engine games, Unity games boot up quickly and have a smaller footprint.
"You can argue this about splash screens too, and about shader compilation, and about loading times, etc."
No, you can't, unless you are gaming on a PS3.
I agree with the last paragraph, but it's more like i'm still with old hardware and denuvo not letting me pirate AAA games. And even if i could fix those problems, there is also the bloat.
I don't see the problem. Why don't you just donwload it overnight or do something else while it loads. Like shaving?
Im pretty sure that size due to localization/ language dub, bonus material and 4K texture, I wish steam had repacker like feature to skip certain language and feature
It's not Steam, it's the devs problem. They could make a heavily stripped down version of the game with low res assets and such, one language, 720p videos, etc. and make things like 4k textures as free DLC. What stops them from doing that is laziness, fear of scaring dumb consumers, etc.
Yeah, especially dumb customer, devs just dont want to bother with them that rarely even read the warning
They where doing something like this in the PS4 era. At least i remember 2 games that did that, Monster Hunter and Fallout 4, they offered optional higher res textures, but at some point the bloat took over.
The dumb customers will then not install the dlc and leave bad reviews because the cutscenes are only 720p and the textures look like diarrhea. I can understand them.
That was exactly my point, dumb@ss.
I'm never going to pay $70 for something that is already in the bargain bin for PS5.
They can keep it.
gave up on the demo after walking 3 steps cut scene on repeat. not to mention the subs don't match the japanese audio.
Yeah, Im also using japanese audio, but my problem is the lipsync, its catered to english voice over like Ghost of Tsushima, for me personally, its make it difficult in immersion. Thank fully the english audio quite good in my opinion,I like just like FF XII english dub
ye that was bad too. but i can't stand it when they lazily just add the american script as the subtitles. Like i can't remember her name, but she says "Hugo" in japanese and the subs say "you c*ck"
It has always been liked this. I remember playing the German version of FF10 and all the German subtitles, which were directly translated from the Japanese script, didn't add up at all with the English voice actors. This happens often in JRPGs so being able to understand German is somewhat an advantage because you understand more of what the Japanese original actually is about. Unfortunately the Tales of Series bases their foreign translations on the English version.
