Modder ‘FCH823’ has released a new HD Texture Pack for BioShock 2 Remastered that overhauls over 3500 textures. This pack is a must for everyone who wants to revisit this classic FPS. So, if you are one of them, you should definitely download it.
Going into more details, this mod pack is getting rid of a lot of pixelated textures that were present in the remaster. Moreover, it enhances fine details thanks to the new AI algorithms and methods that are currently available. Most of the diffuse and specular textures have been upscaled X2 or X4, depending on content and original resolution.
The mod covers all types of textures. This includes environments, objects, characters, adverts, and more. The only thing that remains intact is the UI (which is not stored as textures).
For those wondering, 2K Marin actually used AI tools to improve the textures in BioShock 2 Remastered. However, those tools back then were not as good as the ones we currently have. So, in order to fix them, the modder upscaled the original textures from 2010.
The end result is great, and at the end of the article, you can find some comparison screenshots. In a couple of comparisons, we also get to see the new modded textures against the vanilla ones that were used in the remastered version.
You can download this HD Texture Pack from this link. Do note that the unzipped file is around 13GB in size. To install it, you will need around 22GB.
Speaking of BioShock, I also recommend downloading this HD Texture Pack for the first remaster. Created by the same modder, that pack will also greatly improve its textures. So, make sure to also get it.
Have fun!

upscaling loses some of the charm of the game and makes the whole thing look rather generic.
No it doesn't.
maybe algorithmic upscaling but look at the pictures, the game looks WAYYY better.
Finally played Bioshock 2 last year after skipping the first games in the series because they scared the sh*t out of me when I was younger. Great series and tragic I couldnt push through that first scene of the splicer scratching the pod sooner. The Minerva DLC was great. Maybe if my son or daughter decide to play one of these old school games I can get them to install this too.
what an unnecessary 'overhaul texture pack'
WAT! Get your eyes checked man
Man AI has really pushed modding to the next level. Not sure how I feel about it outside of the hobbyist and into the professional realm though. Got to play all the Bioshocks early last year after missing them on 360 because I didnt think I'd like them and man did I do myself a disservice then. If I ever replay 2 I definitely gotta make sure to use this mod if the doodoo garbage 2k launcher allows it.
I am sure that Nvidia are working automatic texture AI texture upscaling (as in on the fly and in-game).
Never liked the series, way too boring story with a way too repetitive gameplay.
Some of the pscaling looks better than others but will it make the game look that mch better at 4k nope waste of time.
