Manor Lords feature

City builder, Manor Lords, has sold two million units in three weeks

Hooded Horse has announced that Manor Lords has now sold over two million copies across all stores. The game hit Early Access on April 26th, meaning that it took it less than three weeks to hit that sales goal.

Hooded Horse CEO Tim Bender said:

“It’s been wonderful to see so many players give Manor Lords a try. We had some pretty optimistic expectations and even some wild hopes, but reaching two million copies on Manor Lords so quickly has exceeded even those.”

Manor Lords is a medieval strategy game where you get to be a lord in charge of your own land. You can build and manage a city, fight in big battles, and take care of your people and economy. The game changes with the seasons and weather, and your city can grow or fall apart depending on how well you rule.

From what we know, Manor Lords will remain in Early Access for at least a year. This Early Access build has generated Very Positive Reviews. So that’s at least good news for city-builder fans.

It’s also worth noting that Manor Lords is developed by a solo developer. So, more power to him for creating a game that has sold two million copies.

Last month, we shared a mod that allowed you to play Manor Lords in VR. It’s a pretty neat mod, so make sure to download it if you own a VR headset.

  1. I cannot fathom why this game is so damn popular. It’s just a generic city builder set in medival times, with generic gameplay. Even the trailers make it look boring, and most steam reviews are mixed.

What’s the big deal with this game when there are already dozens of medieval city builders out there that have already done the same thing, but better? It seems to me like a game that went viral from either YouTube or tiktok for whatever reason even though there have already been plenty of games out there doing the same thing but with tiny player bases under 100k.

I’m not saying it’s a bad game, because it’s not. But it’s an early access 7/10 unfinished game that is average at best, and is missing features from its more mature peers. Yet 2million people bought it 🤷‍♀️

  2. as far as Gaming as Art, this is probably the best news of the year so far.

as far as stories to make you feel hopeful about the future of gaming, this has got to be it. so far.

it’s not even that I love the game – I’ve bounced off during a couple tries, we’ll see – but it’s definitely the result of a lot of hard work and passion from a dedicated developer with this crazy idea to trust the abilities and patience of a mass gaming audience.

never mind just Player Retention, let’s talk commercial sales: at this rate, Manor Lords — the slow-ass game about trying to plan, build and maintain antiquated medieval supply chains while building a village of plain brown buildings is going to sell more copies than Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League, the huge superhero event that probably cost 200 million dollars to produce.

    that’s amazing. that’s so awesome.
