Valve’s next game is rumored to be a competitive 6v6 third-person hero-based shooter

‎Gabe Follower, a CS data miner/insider, has apparently leaked the first details for Valve’s upcoming game which will be called Deadlock. According to the leaker, Deadlock will be a competitive 6v6 third-person hero-based shooter.

Deadlock was previously codenamed as Neon Prime. In this game, players will battle on a huge map with 4 lanes. The game will also have usable abilities and items. Not only that but there might be some tower defense mechanics.

The leaker concluded that this will be a mix of Dota 2, Team Fortress 2, Overwatch, Valorant, Smite and Orcs Must Die. And… well… that’s not what I wanted to see from Valve.

What’s also crazy to me is that Deadlock will not be tied to the Half-Life universe. As the leaker noted, the game had initially sci-fi elements that were inspired by Half-Life and Portal. However, after some bad feedback, the dev team decided to remove them and focus on fantasy.

Now as with all rumors, we suggest taking everything you just read with a grain of salt. ‎Gabe Follower has a pretty good track record, which is why we’ve decided to share this rumor.

Again, as a gamer, I’m not that happy with this next Valve game. I get why Valve wants to create this title. This may become a huge commercial success. It can also bring tons of money via micro-transactions. But man, this is Valve we’re talking about. The team behind both Steam and Counter-Strike. Do they really need another multiplayer cash cow? Why not go back to its roots and release a single-player game?

Anyway, Valve may soon officially reveal this game. Until then, though, I’m a bit disappointed by these latest leaks. Damn it, Valve. Count to three already.

Stay tuned for more!

  1. Oh man I was worried for minute, because you know how much we badly needed another hero shooter. Thank heavens that valve has decided to bring nothing new to the table. They should just go ahead and make it VR also. Good Fuqin Riddance!

      1. Ok if you wanna talk handheld why would it be steam deck. The only one that’s tied down to a DRM platform. The one that’s ran by an entire DRM platform. You do know they’re is the Asus ally, Legion Go & MSI Claw, which are treated like any other computer, AS IT FUQIN SHOULD!. Why do you like to associate with prison behavior? Do you like to be in 24 hr lockdown? What’s your deal man? How can I help you be where you’re suppose to be?

You have so many better options (competition) and you still go for the prison cell. They gave you 3 other hotels to choose from and you choose a night in prison instead. Unfuqin believable.

        1. the steam deck is just a better alternative to those you named, and you can still install any game you want from any other non drm store, (GOG or whatever), using Lutris and proton.

          1. But it’s NOT! and i you think so, you’re just a fan boy. Because you can install Linux and anything on those other devices. It’s just a device and you can put whatever you want on them.

          2. Steam is a DRM too, yet gamers treat it as a second coming of Christ because you can join friends easily.

It shows you the average gamer critical thinking.

          3. That’s why we are so Fuq’d. I got depressed when I learned the true meaning of “WE”. We the people, that means it will take masses of us to make any form of change. And it was at that moment I knew I WAS FUQ’D! I’ll never get to see anything true and holy because I have to rely on the “we factor”. I don’t know how you deal with this. Me personally, having a hard time with life with this one.

          4. I solved it by not caring anymore and only making jokes and snarks about the current state of the industry tailored for your average idi*t.

      2. Steamdeck sold because its a basically portable emulation device that can run any emulator available (Valve knew about it and slip one footage in their ads about the Deck capability running yuzu back then). That kind of device will sold, you can see it in today thriving portable emu scene for a device like anbernic for example everywhere

  2. I hope this is not true.
They already have Team Fortress 2 so another “Hero FPS” doesn’t make sense.

    1. Valve doesn’t want to do single player games anymore. Portal 2 stem from Narbacular Drop and that came out 13 years ago.

When you print money from Steam sales and hats selling, you don’t need to develop anything.

  3. Oof… So… Let’s break it down besides just throwing in “money”.
    – Valve doesn’t need money to begin with, so why would they do this nth generic trend chasing piece of sh*t?
    – Money of course? But they don’t need it. So it must be something more nuanced.
    – Either Gaben himself or some suit is pushing for creating an alternative revenue stream for the long run, which is an important practice in business…
    – But they have that with DotA2, and TF2 which is old AF and can’t be bringing in much money…
    – Could they use a new revenue stream? Always, and they tried many times, some failed like Steam Machines, some were a success like the Steamdeck. Do they need to take this risk then? Not really, but yes.
    – Does this instantly stink of DOA? Absolutely. This is oversaturated AF… Unless it actually evolves the genre and is special. I/we don’t know about that really, though we don’t expect it.
    – I wouldn’t do it. I’d pursue the goal in a different way.

  4. I want to steal from valve like black people turkish people do, I hope they don’t make a multiplayer game because I barely play any games these days.

  5. “Combination of Dota 2, Team Fortress 2, Overwatch, Valorant, Smite, Orcs Must Die, Tetris, Call of Duty, Battlefield 2042, Banjo Kazooie, Digimon World, League of Legends.”

  6. 3 different codenames for a project trying to attract the fans of 6 different franchises, sounds like development is going well.

  7. “Why not go back to its roots and release a single-player game?”
In this time and day and looking at valve ‘handbook’ itself, no developer working there will crazy enough risking their career making high risk single player games or any of the sequel of the Valve properties ended with number 2. Their handbook clearly said if you want to make something you have to pitch it to other teammate to support and working on the idea, the initiative wont be coming from top management (Im sure there is any, although their handbook said that they have no hierarchy aka flat management structure).

Imagine, what will you choose to do if someone asking your effort of working on traditional HL2 ep2 sequel that will take years ? If you are dedicated enough probably you will take it, but what about ‘senior’ that previously working on HL2 and you’re looking for their guidance and advice ? Im doubt anyone of those would want to involve in that kind of scrutiny in their age with family and responsibility at home. Id rather working on gimmick like Steam Sales crafting system that take only for some months without many time and monetary risk involved. CMIIW

  8. Why not go back to its roots and release a single-player game?

    cause singleplayer doesn’t pay
