Helldivers 2 feature-2

Helldivers 2 is the third biggest Playstation launch on Steam but suffers from major issues on PC [UPDATE: Now THE biggest PS launch on PC]

Sony has just released Helldivers 2 on PC and PS5 and from the looks of it, this is the third biggest Playstation launch on Steam. In just a day, this online squad-based third-person shooter managed to hit a peak of 64K concurrent players on PC.

The biggest Playstation launch on PC is still God of War with a peak of 73K concurrent players. The second biggest Sony launch is Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered which had a peak of 64K concurrent players. Helldivers 2 now sits in third place, followed by Horizon Zero Dawn and The Last of Us Part 1.

Helldivers 2 64K concurrent players

Now while the game has initially sold well on PC, it currently has Mixed Reviews on Steam. From what we’ve seen, there are major instability issues with it. A lot of PC players report constant crashes. Others claim that there are awful mouse smoothing issues, and that there is no support for DLSS or FSR.

Some have also reported poor performance on high-end PC systems. Sadly, we didn’t receive any PC review code so we can’t comment on its performance. This is also a GaaS title, so it’s a pain to benchmark it. Still, we might purchase it in order to at least test it on the RTX 4090.

It’s worth noting that Helldivers 2 uses the nProtect GameGuard protection system. So, I don’t know whether this system is the cause of the crashes on PC.

To its credit, Helldivers 2 looks great. The game has a cool dismemberment system and can display lots of explosions on screen. Since the first Helldivers game used the Bitsquid Engine, I’m almost certain that its sequel uses an enhanced version of it.

Anyway, as with most online games, we suggest staying away from it until Arrowhead Game Studios manages to address these instability issues. In theory, the team will be able to resolve them in a week or so.

Stay tuned for more!

UPDATE:

The game has now surpassed God of War’s peak concurrent number. As such, Helldivers 2 is now the biggest Playstation launch on Steam.

  1. And so it begins. Next up will be the million, xillion etc sales press release showing how fake all this is, it’s desperation and mind control attempt by these scum devs who put out largely terrible junk. Some lone dev or small group who really care about art style, storytelling and quality can easily outdo these megamonopolist devs, but of course the dream is always to get bought out for 100mil, seen that in another industry a few times. So then on it goes, the cartel is like a disease that spreads.
The other scam is using public gov money for this, cpdurtards did that, another form of public money for private profit, here you’re pals w the rainmakers who hand out public money, so you get to be a millynare. Games like Kona, etc who are state financed. The small group dev has to rely on art style and fun because they don’t have the resources for fancy graphics so you won’t see that much there, take Rush Rally 3, it’s just fun but has very old graphics should have used cell shading tbh or the larger dev company that does New Star GP which beats the hex out of the megaf1 franchises in so many ways it’s hilarious.

  2. A ps5 performs like an RTX 4070 with built-in DRM.

This game has Korea’s famous nProtect GameGuard DRM. Anyone who ever played a Korean game, knows how awful it is, and how it often leads to crashes and performance issues.

Easy solution, stop buying boring Sony games and stop buying games from Steam full of DRM..

    1. So what you’re saying that is Steam’s fault cuz devs/publisher injected their garbage trash called DRM into their games, huh? Blame who ACTUALLY did that, Steam only is marketplace, and their own DRM is nothing but a few DLLs file try to confirm what you are.

      1. Valve introduced mass DRM on PC.

First, they introduced a forced launcher on PC, which is DRM. Then Valve introduced their own Steamworks DRM which most games on Steam use. Steam also supports Denuvo on their platform, something which GOG refuses to allow.

Valve also introduced Microstransactions on PC.

Consoles have built-in local offline DRM and basically don’t suffer a performance penalty for it.

So yes, if you buy through Steam, it is your own damn fault if you get laggy games with DRM that crash.

This DRM disaster on PC is purely the fault of PC gamers and Steam fanboys. Then again, the average IQ of a PC gamer is pretty low, even 14-year-old Nintendo fans want to own their physical games.

        1. Agree, GOG is the right way for the future, regarding to console its actually worst than PC, their physical machine is DRM for itself let alone the always online and the requirement to pay upfront just to play online in game we already bought. We at least still had cracking scene on PC, pirating is the only preservation we can count on until all digital only release following GOG way

        2. Valve also introduced Microstransactions on PC.

False. Asian MMOs would’ve had MTXs many years before TF2, Dota2, CS:GO and were even things.

        3. Except every publisher was already using Starforce, Securom or Safedisc on their games by 1998.
          You’re full of sh*t dude.

          1. true starforce was garbage , it would cause my pc to crash , blue screen to the point of making it go into crash loops .

      2. true!!! i bought sniper elite 3 on steam and never played it becasue it crashes 5 minutes in game …do you know how i played the game? pirated version , the files on it replacing the original …and for some stupid reason i was able to play without a single crash.

      1. Note that you can’t directly compare the number of FLOPS between AMD & NVIDIA GPUs.

In fact, you can’t even compare the number of FLOPS between GPU generations of the same vendor, e.g. on paper AMD’s RDNA3 should be alot faster than RDNA2, but that doesn’t translate into real world FPS numbers.

Therefore, the closest GPU to the one inside the PS5 is actually the Radeon 6700 (non-XT).

But once again not directly comparable, because the PS5 has the [i]GPU in an APU/SOC plus a proprietary graphics API to program it.

        1. Its actually closer than you think, of course console marketing will make you think otherwise to boost their notoriety. With DX12 devs can tap the GPU real performance, but many wont bother, just gave them to 3rd part dev to port and make crap PC port out of it. The reality is many console settings actually lower than the lowest options on PC or simply just disabling it (Digital Foundry confirm many of that case in their optimised settings video). Let alone their thermal envelope that will pretty much limiting the performance compared to discreet GPU.

        2. Part of that reason for RDNA 3’s lesser performance is the chiplet design ….. You will ALWAYS lose performance in a chiplet design over a monolithic design because you need an “interface layer” to tie everything together and you will ALWAYS lose some performance. No one factors that in when looking at the specs.

The sole benefit of a chiplet design is lower manufacturing costs

      2. 2060? lol, good luck.

A 6GB old 2060 against a PS5 with 16GB VRAM. That’s not going to perform anywhere near a PS5. especially not for consoles ports, and especially not a higher res.

In reality most console ports are barely optimized for PC, and Sony just shoves them onto PC just to make a quicky extra buck.

        1. You either have no idea what you are talking about or like to exaggerate things. Either way, you are wrong. A PS5 is a joke compared to a 4070.

          1. The guy is mentally imbalanced. He makes ridiculous claims usually about Steam because he has some kind of grudge against Steam and if you try to correct him he will edit his comments, twist what you say in your reply and in the end he will get his feelings hurt and block you.

          2. Yeah, it’s a shame that he doesn’t reach out and get mental help. He shouldn’t be posting on public forums.

          3. Well Steam are kind of idiots sometimes …. Just ask all the Steam Witcher 3 users about their saves files vanishing after a Steam client update ……

          4. It is you who has no idea what they’re talking about.

Claiming a 2060 peforms like a PS5 for console ports is ridiculous.

If you think a 3-gen old 2060 with 6GB VRAM is going to keep up with a PS5 with 16GB shared VRAM, you’re a delusional idiot. At higher res that PS5 is going to crush a 2060. I am not even a console player and I can’t comprehend how delusional some PC gamers are.

I would be shocked if you get anywhere near PS5 frame rate in any game.

          5. Hahaha what a load of bollocks it’s an 5700xt with a bit of RT bolted on.

It’s closest would be the 6600 lol.

It also has a down clocked garbage zen 2 CPU.

It is no where near a 4070.

It absolutely does not crush a2060 especially if you enable RT lol

        2. Im sorry but the raw power is around that. Consoles went live in 2020 and basicaly used mid range 2018 pc gpu performance.

          1. Consoles went live in 2020 and basicaly used mid range 2018 pc gpu performance.

They’re SOC with shared memory, which gives them a massive advantage in terms of memory bandwidth and memory capacity. They’re not directly comparable to GPU. Regardless, they’re much faster than a 2060.

          2. Fill rate is not the Α and Ω.
It will go hand in hand with how fast it draw cells.

Hence a lowend gpu never really make sense having memory higher than a CERTAIN point since its drawing capabilities will bottleneck the advantage of bigger Vram pools and fill rates.

Ps5 is just a low end gaming machine for today’s standarts

It was so even when released. Let alone now, literally two pc gpu gens away!

There has been numerous talks and videos for their gaming performance, no point reiterating whats been beaten to death again and again.

How much optmized is a game that runs on a console vs a PC is a totally different subject and shouldnt be directly included when comparing the three different platforms.

And as far the optimization goes, you can polish a turd up to a point before the HW finally reach its limits.

The difference is that with a consloe, the perfotmance will hit an index ans atop improving (if even), while on PC, the aoftware gets tuned aswell but the HW is also upgradable- you will play CP2077 on a 2060 gpu with rt turned ofd and at 1080p, then thr developers will keep improving their aoftware to run faster, better, less buggy. But 3 years down the linr, you replace one single subsystem, the gpy, and CP2077 graphics look likr a totally different game with PathTracing at 4k.

          3. today’s standarts

consloe, the perfotmance will hit an index

let alone now, literally two pc

how much optmized is a game

            ans atop improving

What is this garbage? This is the 3rd AI bot I had to block today.

          4. console alredy are maxing what they can deliver ,if not then the consoles would not need upscaling and graphic options

          5. First, there is no such thing as a 2060Ti, so what you were claiming is already baloney right off the bat.

But let’s give you the benefit of the doubt, assume you misspoke, and meant the 2060 Super. Let’s give your argument another bonus and ignore all the console optimisations.

A 2060 Super is still nowhere close on specs to a PS5, nowhere close.

            2060S 12nm.
            PS5 6nm.

            2060S clock 1470 Mhz
            PS5 clock 2233 Mhz

            2060S GPU cores 2176
            PS5 GPU Cores 2304

            2060S fill rate 224.4
            PS5 fill rate 321.6

            2060S 8GB DDR6
            PS5 16GB DDR6 (albeit shared)

          6. The closes is the rtx 2070 base, its almost on the same boat , the 2060 is bit slower …now the gtx 1080ti could do rtx , then the 1080ti would be the pefect match maybe faster than the ps5 gpu,11 gb? but faster clock speed
