Keen Games released last week its co-op survival action RPG, Enshrouded, on Steam Early Access. And, in just four days, this new survival game has managed to sell over one million units.
Enshrouded supports both solo and co-op modes. Each session can support up to 16 players. In this game, players can venture into a vast world, vanquish punishing bosses, build grand halls and forge their path.
The game features a voxel-based building mechanic, similar to that of Minecraft. Thanks to this system, players can create grand architecture on an epic scale, customized with a vast assortment of materials and furniture.
What’s also interesting here is that Enshrouded uses its own custom engine, called the Holistic Engine. Yeap, this game is not powered by the Unity Engine or Unreal Engine 5. Not only that, but Enshrouded looks amazing. So kudos to Keen Games for developing their own engine.
As said, the game is currently in Early Access. Keen Games plans to take it out of Early Access within a year. Its Early Access build has all of its core gameplay elements. During the Early Access phase, the team plans to improve and add new gameplay features. Additionally, it will try to expand the world significantly.
From the looks of it, the game can also scale well on older PC systems. To run the game, PC gamers will at least need an Intel Core i5-6400 or AMD Ryzen 5 1500X with 16GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 580. Keen Games recommends using an Intel i7-8700 or an AMD Ryzen 7 2700X with 16GB of RAM and an NVIDIA RTX 2070 Super or an AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT.
Stay tuned for more!

Telling people never to buy DLCs and Early Access is in vain, right?
DLC has a variable value, it can be great sometimes depending on the dev, the game or the price. People should avoid Denuvo-Protected and AAA games on release instead.
DLC content is mostly cut content from the original game. Devs/publishers could wait and release an Expansion, or start working on the sequel – but preferably new IP instead.
(I am very naive in all of this, I know, we are in the endgame (de-risk situation) after all.)
Hope crash is coming before the industry is creatively dead for good.
If we strictly talk about AAA games, the industry has been creatively dead for more than a decade.
“DLC content is mostly cut content from the original game”
Like i said the value is variable, never said it’s always good
I’m starting to miss mobas and battle royals.
Nope, never hope for the comeback of the battle-royal trend, NEVER !! Just take a second and think about how Fortnite and its aesthetics… Done ? You’re welcome.
How is Fortnite or PUBG worse than looter shooters, survival games, UE asset flips, or weeb games like palaworld or whatever it is?
PUBG is online-only. Survival slop at least works offline and has single-player.
fck single player games, no one gives a sh*t about them.
All what you mentioned has been there for longer than the BR trend, these are not trends but rather a stable market now that has close to 0 influence on other games (Looter-Shooters being the exception) and yes, i prefer having fun in a survival game with a couple of friends rather then wasting my a time playing with kids on a BR game, where 25% of the time is camping and the 75% is waiting to join another game because you’re been fragged by a camper
I feel like I’m wasting my time when I play video games as it is. Gathering and building sh*t in an artificial world exacerbates that feeling.
I’d rather suck a black dck than make myself feel like that.
Starting to miss? They are just around the corner.

This and palworld look boringaf, I mean those who enjoy the loop can’t be that large of an audience, seems like it would get pretty stale even w co op. Even w the takejewism of justar these will likely be moved on from when gta6 comes out, seems like the types that play these also have consoles, nonsensically. Every time I’ve tried these sort of games they get stale after a few hours, farming sims etc
Suvival games and Western RPG are much more popular on PC.
They involve gear upgrades, crafting, items, inventory management, which makes them annoying to play on consoles lacking a mouse. MMO never really took off on consoles either.
Consoles is the platform of fighting games, FPS, platformers and simpler JRPG that don’t require much inventory management or crafting.
oh maybe if you cherrypick it. I’m on pc but use a controller and played all sorts of games, and most games are geared towards consoles ie have controller support in fact it’s the jap games that are the most nonsensical menu systems and such like dark souls 3, mh, etc 77 has all that too crafting etc and I do that just fine on pc w controller.
I was speaking of just the game loop of these which is largely the same after the first rush of it then a few hours of the loop and sounds like washing the dishes all day lol I can see if you’re doing the same survival killathon defense of rust so it’s a party type game but that’s never appealed much to me either.
I see. For many games I use a controller on PC too, it has finally become plug-and-play. I can’t imagine playing a shmup with a keyboard.
Sales of BG3 were much lower (relatively speaking) on consoles than on PC. Console players have no idea what CRPG are.
While you can play inventory heavy games like BG3 on consoles, it is not nearly as enjoyable as on PC, a mouse gives you much tighter control of where you are aiming than a controller.
But console players and gamers in Japan do know what Dragon’s Dogma is. It is a dumbed down version of a Western RPG, where inventory management is simplified, crafting is extremely simple, everything is realtime and action based, etc.
Due to a lack of mouse control on consoles, Western style RPG don’t work well on consoles.
It’s a good game. Unlike other survival games, this game has a good backstory, lore and skill progression. Better than Valheim.
The world is a lot more mysterious and grim than most games. When it’s dark, it’s dark, you need your torch or you’ll see didly squat. The environment is very well done, very dynamic, much better than Dark Souls imo.
I guess it is settled, survival games and free 2 play is what PC gamers crave. No point in being mad about it, just accept and move on.
They’ve been craving since DayZzzz. Even crap like The Day Before was the top wishlisted game. Next is Rooted. It still pisses me off.
That’s why game’s engine is like dogpoop. Bought it, got over 140 frames, yet somehow game and animations feels like it’s 50-60hz. Hope for a patch tho, since i see lot of posts regarding said issue at Steam discussions
yeah too bad it looks like crap. i wonder how they managed to keep all those hot graphics so stable.

Cool story… now fix the game and its frame issues…
I get sick of games in Early Access.
Unfortunately, people will keep paying for games in Early Access, and so they will keep releasing em as so.
Very true.
It’s been like 12 years since DayZ started the early access open world survival game fad and PC gamers still buy these low effort asset flip games in droves.
I reckon that people just treat unfinish jank games as glorified chat rooms where they can d*ck about with their friends. Real time messaging/cat apps are free, you don’t need to fork over $20-30ish USD to some scam developer for a communication location.
