Modder who accused Palworld of using 3D models from Pokemon games admits that he has faked everything

Palworld has become one of the most popular games recently, but it seems to have upset a lot of Pokemon fans. A few days ago, a modder said they had proof that Palworld copied 3D models from previous Pokemon games. And now, the modder has confessed that they made it all up.

Here is the original X comment that sparked this drama.

And here is the modder confessing that he has faked everything.

We’ve been seeing a lot of this lately. Some folks, whether we’re talking about YouTubers or big commercial websites, use drama to get more views and followers. They might share rumors from unreliable sources, or even create fake tech videos. Want an example? YouTube was filled with fake comparisons between the new Samsung S24 and iPhone 15, even before people and reviewers got their hands on them. That’s just how things work on social media these days.

It’s interesting how fans can be that naive. Just think about it. People are defending a big corporate company that’s created some of the ugliest Pokemon games we’ve seen to date, over a small team that just made a game that looks two generations ahead of it. Nintendo and Game Freak have been taking advantage of their Pokemon license. What’s ironic is their overall reception. Pokemon fans are buying them despite their major visual and performance issues. And I can guarantee you this. If Ubisoft made the latest Pokemon games and called them “CreedMon,” the same fans would be trashing them. And that wouldn’t surprise me one bit. After all, Ubisoft is bad and Nintendo is awesome.

What’s pretty funny is that some news outlets turned this single X comment into whole articles. Shouldn’t they check if the game models are really the same? Shouldn’t they do some investigating and use editor tools to figure things out? But hey, it’s easier to rely on an X comment and run with it. That’s not very professional, especially for the big gaming news sites. But that’s the world we live in 2024.

At this point, I’d like the Pokemon company to sue Palworld. Since these 3D models were not ripped off from the Pokemon games, Pocketpair will undeniably win this case.

Then we have artists from other gaming studios that are jumping into the Palworld controversy bandwagon. Shouldn’t these artists focus on their games? Or how about this? You are a 3D artist so you most likely have the appropriate tools installed on your PC. Export a 3D model from Palworld and do some investigation. It should be easy for you.

And that is that. The drama surrounding Palworld has been fascinating. For the time being, know that Palworld has not used any 3D models from the Pokemon games. Yes, it’s heavily inspired by it. Yes, a lot of Pals look similar to Pokemon. Nobody denies that. But unless it’s using ripped models from them, Nintendo cannot do anything at all to Pocketpair.

Finally, make sure to check out our Best Palworld Mods. In that article, we shared some cool mods that are available for it.

And now grab your popcorn and let this show continue!

  1. Pokemon fanboys shilling for Nintendo in exchange of peanuts in the form of mediocre Pokemon games, what a fking surprise.

    1. I always assumed people who defend companies (on Steam and other forums) have some sort of mental or physical disability because they can’t do anything other than play video games.
Being a disgusting lonely fat slob is also a very high probability guess.

      1. I defend companies when they take appropriate actions. I like Steam. Not a fan of that crap store Epic. Steam makes mistakes though. Epic gets a few things right. So there is that…but assuming everyone that has an opinion is likely fat is more a reflection of your self-conscious nature.

  2. Success do breed jealously and shills at the same time hoping to get some clicks on drama, like our dear Johnny.

And honestly, even if it was “stolen assets” or 100% plagiarism or AI use, i still think devs should be allowed to do it. I’m pro plagiarism and anti copyright laws.

  3. Who cares.. I refuse to believe any sane person over 15 years old, playing Pokemon games. And i wonder how the hell that game has become that kind of golden seller at Steam with nearly 1m players at one day.

    1. PCMasterRace and Gaming subreddits seem to be in love. Since many casuals moved over from consoles and/or bought a handheld gaming PC like Steam Deck, it shouldn’t be surprising.

    2. Xbox owners are claiming the game as theirs because it is not on PlayStation and it is a huge hit. Xbox owners will champion anything as long as it is not a sony exclusive.

  4. Twitter is the place where a mom decides a Measles, Polio and Tetanus vaccine is overrated, because that guy who sells online herbal medicine said so.

Imagine having to deal with these people as a doctor. The faster they nuke Twitter off the internet, the better.

    1. As a D.N.P. clinical researcher. I see your point. However not all vaccines are safe. If you really knew like I do. You would understand basically even if we do trial runs, anyone who receives any medicine, vaccine, etc… is really a test subject. We are still finding out long term effects of many said drugs/vacs. Many are not good. Many are kept hushed up.

  5. It’s interesting how fans can be that naive.

Really? Its 2024. If you get mad at pokemon/palworld over this (even if it was true), youre an incel loser with no life…. of course youre gonna be a dumbass naive fan.

  6. I think nintendo would have looked at this game and decided on whether to pursue legal action or not by now since it’s been out there and likely the pw devs made sure that even if they lifted models they changed them enough to be in the clear legally. These big syndicates all work together and some unsubstantiated complaint by nintendont would have been enough to get this game delisted. Idk though big money usually can change a lot of things and minds lol I think it’s interesting that some of the most highly rated reviews on steam are about “don’t get sued”, why would some player say this? Idk we actually interface w mostly ai-machines on the net so what is real or not is hard to tell.

  7. This dso gaming article is BS. @byofrog continues to discuss how the models are rip offs – he’s not at all backing down and he doesn’t seem to be manufacturing fraudulent criticisms at all.

  8. I used to use Twatter crapbook and other social networks for years full of crap stiring dicks 10 years later dont miss it at at all now i use a phone so simple.

  9. Weird, I’m reading through everything and can’t seem to find the part where he admits to “faking everything”. It seems he scaled the models to the same size to make them easier to compare.

    1. His claim was they were 1:1 scaled perfectly. They were not as he admitted to modifying the models to fit.

      Did you read the article?

  10. There’s no need to talk about others; you’re no different yourself. Where is the 256GB Marvel Spider-Man 2? When someone tweets, aren’t you also creating a piece of news yourself?

  11. My brother recommended I might like this web site He was totally right This post actually made my day You cannt imagine just how much time I had spent for this information Thanks

  12. How is scaling models uniformly “faking everything”? It’s like scaling down a Macy’s parade balloon to check if it’s similar to, let’s say, a figurine. It doesn’t change its shape at all.

My hunch is that they, in fact, ripped some actual Pokémon models from the game and changed them slightly. Just like that “can I copy your homework” meme.
Hear me out and don’t let the hype blind you.

The devs of this game strike me as sloppy, as someone who throws sh*t at walls and hopes it sticks. Look at their previous game, Craftopia, which was abandoned in no time. It didn’t make enough profit so they threw another viral sh*t at the wall… and it stuck this time.

It looks to me as if the people behind Palworld have the “get-rich-quick scheme” mindset. They are associated with crypto and NFT. They were extolling the merits of AI generating new Pokémon designs. They revealed in an interview that a middle schooler working part time at a convenience store made those models. Given all that, making deliberately inspired designs instead of some lazy modifications just seems like too much of an ask to them.

It’s like those no-name speedrunners who suck and then achieve multiple world records. They raise suspicion and rightfully so. They often turn out to be cheaters.

The Occam’s razor dictates that they probably didn’t have enough skill to pull it off without any help (i.e. ripping models from other company to use them as very strong guidelines).

Keep in mind, this game is VERY derivative. It isn’t a spiritual successor like Yooka-Laylee, it’s not much more than “LOL survival popular + LOL Pokemon popular = profit”. They don’t care about such things as art direction, consistency, etc.

People are enamored with them right now because they’re so “based”, they speak very casually in their interviews, etc. But everyone would be very relaxed as well if you just experienced the feeling of becoming a multimillionaire overnight. Why do you think their intentions are noble? Just because they’re perceived as underdogs?

The fact that Nintendo often does reprehensible things doesn’t suddenly exonerate the developers of Palworld.

    1. TL;DR

There are multiple reasons to believe that the devs of Palworld didn’t have required skills to come up with that many original or even loosely inspired monsters. They probably ripped some Pokémon 3D models from the newer games (ultra easy to do) and switched up some of their features just so it barely doesn’t qualify (in their opinion) as copyright infringement.
Please explain this, otherwise. The cartoony hair tufts can be arranged in millions of ways and yet they did this:

      1. And where’s you source Senator.

My source is that I made it the F up.

        Literally you as the Senator.

Adjusting the scale does not necessarily mean the whole model was adjusted all at once and that multiple tweaks could have been made to get all the proportions in line. Do you understand?
