Pizza Bear Games is currently working on a new arcade helicopter game that is heavily inspired by classics like Desert Strike and Choplifter. This new indie title is called Megacopter: Blades of the Goddess, and below you can find a new gameplay video for it.
In Megacopter: Blades of the Goddess, you will play through the campaign featuring seek and destroy, boss, rescue, and defense missions. Players will be able to upgrade the Megacopter with the fabled AZ-TECH: ancient weaponry and armor.
The major difference between Desert Strike and Megacopter is the bad guys you face. In Desert Strike, you fought against other humans. But in Megacopter, you’ll be up against aliens. This means the game can have cool sci-fi weapons and power-ups. However, I kind of miss the realistic feel of Desert Strike. Guess you can’t have everything in this life.
Other than that, I’m really liking what I see here. From the looks of it, Megacopter will be a lot of fun. The controls feel to be tied and responsive. The game will have in total 4 different biomes and dozens of missions. And yes, this will be mainly a single-player game. Or at least that’s what I got from its description.
So, if you loved Desert Strike and Choplifter, you should keep an eye on this. After all, we won’t get a direct sequel to DS anytime soon. So, here is hoping that Pizza Bear Games will be able to deliver a solid indie arcade game.
There is currently no ETA on when Megacopter will be released. The devs have only stated that it will come out soon. It will also be compatible with Steam Deck. So, if I had to guess, I’d say that it will come out later this year. That’s the safest bet.
Enjoy the video and stay tuned for more!

While he is a die-hard PC gamer, his gaming roots can be found on consoles. John loved – and still does – the 16-bit consoles, and considers SNES to be one of the best consoles. Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2. Looks fun.
This game removes hitscan weapons i think, it was almost impossible to avoid damage in those old games. Also, i don’t get namedropping choplifter, that game is 2d, just because you control a copter?
Looks great, if only you covered more indie titles like this one and less UE5 amateur stuff
John prefers indie indies.
Lol why not both ?
Good question, thing is, John is a cool dude who don’t bother with games that don’t generate enough clicks, so that’s why he barely cover indie stuff, even when it is offered for free on EGS, there was even a time EGS offered 2 games for free and John only bothered to cover the more famous game, such a nice guy…
Yep, i always thought that this “Dark Side” in the title has a meaning, where you can get more “underground” and less “mainstream” news for example, but in the end it’s just an edgy title he gave for his blog like when we were 12 in the early 2000s and our nicknames online were things like DarkWarrior or ShadowNinja…
The only none-mainstream articles you could get on DSOG are nude mods and UE Shovelware, i’m still coming here to avoid woke none-sense and biased articles based on inclusivity and sh*t like that because i like the fact that John mostly keeps his opinion for him
I used to joke that “dark side” is because there are too many black people in DSOG community, lol. But yeah, an actual site more focused on piracy, bootleg games, banned/censored games would be great stuff.
I loved even more than you will get done right here. The overall look is nice, and the writing is stylish, but there’s something off about the way you write that makes me think that you should be careful what you say next. I will definitely be back again and again if you protect this hike.
It was great seeing how much work you put into it. The picture is nice, and your writing style is stylish, but you seem to be worrying that you should be presenting the next article. I’ll almost certainly be back to read more of your work if you take care of this hike.
Aaaaand monsters and aliens again.
I guess I’m really getting old and boring, but I’m really tired of this.
Is it really that hard to make a simple, realistic game with humans as enemies?
Like, a simple, military game with humans? Like the actual Strike series?
No, huh? Monsters are mandatory, huh? Oh well.
Like, seriously, can you guys even name ONE recent game which doesn’t have monsters and/or aliens?
I was soooo disappointed when I saw the weird enemies in Atomic Heart.
Another game I skipped.
Serious question, actually: could it be that we can’t have humans in games anymore because it’s politically incorrect? So now we’ll only kill aliens and monsters?
But don’t aliens and monsters lives matter too, then?🤣
I can’t wait for Arma 4, at least one game with a realistic setting.
But I wish we could have realistic settings in 2D indie games.
