Mortal Kombat 2 feature

Mortal Kombat 2 Remix is an incredible remaster of the classic 2D fighting game

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of the old classic 2D Mortal Kombat games. The first Mortal Kombat was amazing, and its sequel turned everything up to eleven. Mortal Kombat 2 is considered by a lot of players as the best game of the original trilogy. And, from the looks of it, there is a remaster for it that you can download and play.

For those wondering, this is a MUGEN game, meaning that is free to everyone. Here is the thing though. Contrary to other MUGEN games, this is a really polished one. Everything feels like the 2D Mortal Kombat games. There aren’t any major glitches, and the controls seem to be great. Combat pacing also seems similar to the classic MK games.

Not only that but Mortal Kombat 2 Remix comes with major QoL improvements. For instance, it introduces the “Run” mechanic from Mortal Kombat 3. It also adds new combos, as well as new moves for all characters. The stages also look better, with more details and cosmetics. Take for instance Pit 2. It now has a volcano in the background. Or the Portal stage which now has animated effects. Oh, and every secret character is playable now.

I can’t stress enough how good this MK Mugen game is. This is what a proper remaster of Mortal Kombat 2 should look and play like. It’s really polished and, as with all MK Mugen games, it’s completely free. So, if you are a fan of the classic MK games, I strongly suggest downloading and giving it a go.

I’ve also included below two videos from it. The first one shows all of the fatalities, babalities, and friendships for all characters. The second one has some gameplay footage from it. Thus, it can give you a glimpse at its polished gameplay mechanics.

Have fun!

        1. You got some super sensitive eyes or something? Do you go into a room and duck when you notice the lights are in full brightness? Do you complain for over 20 minutes if someone accidentally shines a light into your super special eyes? Do you want a teddy bear to hold whenever you are forced to look at a screen that isn’t a CRT? Don’t worry, we’ll protect you from modern screens, yes we will, don’t you worry your little shivering self, we’ll take you to a farm where all the free-roaming TVs are CRTs, then you can feel right at home and super safe from that horrible lack of strobing on OLED screens, yes we will. lol

      1. exactly, I got rid of my CRT well over a dozen years ago and I haven’t even slightly missed it. People like him are clinging to the past, he probably listens to LPs for that classic sound with a mild constant hiss every time there is any kind of silence or low volume in the music. lol

        1. No, I’m simply amused by posts from individuals who seem to misunderstand the difference between a persistent display and a cathode ray tube. I have two self-made cabinets with 25” CRTs, running GroovyArcade to which I contribute my code, and I wouldn’t dream of replacing them with LCDs or OLEDs, which are less than ideal for 240p games. If you don’t notice the difference, perhaps you’d be better off sticking to pre-made Retropies or other systems with noticeable lag and many scaling and aspect ratio issues when paired with non-CRT displays.

          1. LCD and even Oled are terrible for 60 herz/60fps gaming. To much motion blur. at 100 plus fps they are ok.

        2. i still miss my 23″ 1600×1200 @85hz crt to this day. i still have it but it’s not hooked up. it was starting to act up when i finally made the switch about 8 yrs ago. and it took a lot of getting used to.

now that was a totally different tech than a “crt television”
but i guess if you know, you know.

  1. yeah mk2 brings back good memories of playing on pc using a good ol gravis game pad. i guess i have too much arthritis and tendinitis from years of working with hand tools to play modern fighting games. prob for the better with the literal a*s rape that is mortal kombat 2023.

was jade in the original mk2? i don’t remember playing her. one thing that was cool about mk2 was if you played as shang tsung you could morph in to any of the other characters and have their full move set. you can’t do that in the newer ones.

    1. She was. You could play against her by using only low kicks in a round (when playing against the character right under the “?” icon in the ladder).
