The Chinese Room’s Unreal Engine 5-powered first-person narrative horror game revealed

Secret Mode has revealed the next game from The Chinese Room, Still Wakes the Deep. Still Wakes the Deep is a first-person, narrative horror game, built in Unreal Engine 5, and below you can find its debut in-engine trailer.

Still Wakes the Deep is a return to the first-person narrative horror genre for The Chinese Room. For those unaware, The Chinese Room was the team behind Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, and Dear Esther.

Here is the game’s description.

“You are an off-shore oil rig worker, fighting for his life through a vicious storm, perilous surroundings, and the dark, freezing North Sea waters. All lines of communication have been severed. All exits are gone. All that remains is to face the unknowable horror that’s come aboard.”

There is currently no ETA on when this game will come out.

Enjoy!

  1. So the devs went from Source, to Amnesia’s HPL, to CryEngine, to Unity and now … UE5.

I feel they waste a lot of time relearning a new engine every couple of years

  2. Lovely atmosphere. Hope this one can indeed see the light of the day.
Btw, it reminded me of ‘The Bunker’. Wasn’t it so short, I’d play it again. Awesome FMV.
