In the past couple of years, Sony released numerous of its first-party games on PC. And while most of these releases were commercial successes, Sony seems willing to retain the big gap between the PS5 and PC releases of its first-party games.
Back in November 2022, Sony stated that Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered was its fastest selling game on PC. God of War was also successful on PC, as was Horizon Zero Dawn. Normally, you’d assume that Sony would capitalize on those successes and reduce the timeframe between the PS5 and PC future releases. However, that won’t be the case.
As Jim Ryan told Famitsu:
“We are increasing the number of PS5 exclusive titles and staggering the release of the PC version.
I often have the opportunity to ask game fans for their opinions, and when I ask them about the time lag, they say that selling the PC version two or three years after the release of the PS version is accepted favorably.”
In a way, this is a good thing. After all, the PC launch version of The Last of Us Part I had major issues with low-end and mid-tier PC hardware. Not only that, but there are still a lot of interesting PS4/PS5 games that have not been released yet on the PC. Demon’s Souls, Ratchet and Clank, and Ghost of Tsushima are three of them. And no, I don’t expect at this point Bloodborne to come out on PC.
Sony will hold a PlayStation Showcase next week. I strongly suggest tempering your expectations, though, as this event is focused on PlayStation. Insomniac Games has shared some hints about Spider-Man 2 coming to PC, though nothing is set in stone yet.
Stay tuned for more!

Actually, not a single one of them were. Not in the sense that an actual, proper release can and is on PC. It’s profitable for them because porting an already made game is such a low cost affair (GOW had a team of 4 guys that did most of the work over 2 years)
But im comparison to how fresh games that launch day and date sell on steam, every single one of their games sold peanuts in comparison, when looking at the CC numbers from Steam.
You just explained in your own comment why they are a commercial success. There is very little dev cost. Meaning even a decent number of sales off steam equals big profits for them. They already made their money on Playstation. Steam sales are extra profits.
Commercial success means they madea very good amount of profit. It doesn’t mean they have to compare to brand new releases.
That would be like calling every successful movie a failure because it doesn’t compare to Avatar 1 sales.

lmao. If you pay 4 guys to do your port, yes, you sell 2 peanuts of that game and is a “succes”. No, moving what they moved with every game so far doesnt equal “big profits” for them. That is the actual point. Other games sell 10-20-30 times or more than what their games have sold on steam. By using their antiquated idea of exclusives they’re losing on the initial marketing and hype that a new game has. And they’re collecting change when they could be selling millions of units
But they are selling millions of units. Maybe they could sell more if they made multiplatform day 1, but it’s a theory.
Isn’t this literally the opposite of what they promised only couple years ago?
It’s probably due to the call of duty drama.
I assume this 2-3 years delay is only for single player titles? I hope they are still sticking to the previous plan of releasing GaaS games on PC day 1.
And witch GaaS games does Sony have?
There’s not much of those right now. But, there are many coming in the near future. Sony plans to release 10 GaaS games by 2026.
They will probably be out of GaaS by them. They will release Game as a Cervix maybe.
“a lot of interesting PS4/PS5 games that have not been released yet on the PC” hell there are great PS3 games that were never released on PC. Like God of War 3 and Ascension, Infamous, Uncharted 3 and more. How about launching them first.
You can emulate those PS3 games now. I recently finished GoW3 with a custom ReShade preset:

https://i.imgur.com/Yxbdrog.png
How playable is it? and on what specs? Last time I checked rpcs3 was a real pain to deal with when it comes to emulation since it relies so heavily on CPU and even the mightiest ones drops frames to ~20s in the opening section alone. So its not a pleasant experience. They should release PC port since its been more a decade already
PS3 games aren’t coming to PC, Sony clearly just cares about PS4 and later games, I’m surprised people are even hoping for PS3 era exclusives on PC.
I am not surprised, those games were better.
A few years ago Someone on the steam forums was trying to convince everyone exactly the same and yet here we are now. “You can’t predict what future holds for you. You can only hope and get surprised”
Sure, but they want to sell current consoles by letting more people access their exclusives, there’s no point in releasing games from before the PS4 because that’s likely not something the mass audience is looking for or will benefit Sony in a meaningful way. Not that it wouldn’t be great if they do release pre-PS4/PS5 games, but even though I also prefer keeping hope alive, in this case it’s hoping for the impossible.
There is also the april fools made on this site about upcoming PS4 exclusive games on PC, which turned out to be true!!
((($oyny))) doesn’t care about bringing PS3 games to PC because they weren’t kosher like the GayStation 4 and 5, and even if they bring them, it will be through an ugly Judaized cancer demake from these pink-haired Jewish tr4nnies who don’t even know how to code and don’t even play video games.
I tried to emulate Condemned 2 and Army of Two with my mid tier hardware but the FPS wasn’t that great, and condemned is full of glitches at the time. But otoh i already emulated several Xbox 360 games, Gears 2, 3 and Judgement, Armored Core 4, Condemned 2, Silent Hill Downpour, Hard Corps Uprising and they mostly ran great with few glitches or FPS drops (Gears 3 was the worst on that front)
All I want now is a non-pozzed Gears collection ports to PC (PORTS, NOT DEMAKES OR DEMASTERS!) from 1 to Judgement, after that, the AAA industry can just crash and burn.
Will never happen sadly.
There was a rumor of a Gears collection a year ago and it resurfaced again like 1/2 months ago, some leaker confirmed it but said it won’t be anytime soon.
You can emulate them with modest hardware with Xenia Canary emulator, but you have to use a controller, sadly.
I don’t mind using a controller, why I want PC ports is because emulation is far more demanding than actual PC games, there’s a video by MK Gaming running Judgement at 4K and barely 100 FPS even on the most powerful CPU on the planet (13900K). On my 12400F, I’m barely able to achieve 15 FPS at 4K on Judgement.
I think Xenia demands more of the GPU, but you could drop down the resolution a notch if you can tolerate non 4k gaming.
Ah..the feeling of smooth mouse shooting. No nasa controller can emulate that.
Finished Condemned 2 via Xenia 2 year ago at 720p60. Perfect visuals, perfect performance.
amen, especially for some of us that skipped PS3 altogether.
At this point I just don’t understand Sony stance why stagger for so long. 2-3yrs is pretty steep. Anyway as long these are not horrible ports. Day and date if done right would max profit.
I don’t care about PS5 games other than demons souls cv or a potential Bloodborne release.
I’d rather have games from the PS2 back catalog and up. How about ratchet and clank collections, Infamous, god of war and more?
Ps2 can be easily emulated and even modded, but i woudn’t mind a proper PC port.
“game fans” lol more like console only people. PC gamers don’t like to wait years LOL WTF?
I can’t wait for more “cinematic” walky talky scripted pozfests about lesbos and troons.
just release the uncharted trilogy and go away.
If Sony were actually smart they would just create a Sony PC Launcher (100% profits) and sell their games on their Day 1 with Console Release.
However many months later, release on other storefronts (lose 30% profits). By that point the peanut sales would trail in anyway.
“In a way, this is a good thing. After all, the PC launch version of The Last of Us Part I had major issues with low-end and mid-tier PC hardware.”
How is this in any shape a good thing? You have top of the line hardware and a peasant 2nd rate citizen mentality. Keep buying Sony scraps i guess.
F***ck sony do not buy their games on PC https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/20bad177e7ea2e0fb3a677ca335e58527950352527e9e6e86922ffa1a7fa3074.jpg

I don’t how they didn’t already thought about that
Sony is first and foremost a hardware company, they need you to buy their box. Exclusives are the only reason to buy a console, Xbox is dead because everything they release can be played on PC. Sony are making plenty of money already.
The problem with that is that ‘box’ is no longer profitable and they barely make any money on it. All the money comes from selling Games and Services to play on that box
You’re acting like PC players don’t buy the games when they get ported to PC, they do. So you’re saying that Sony makes zero money from the consoles themselves, which is obviously false. And because of that they should just release everything day one on PC. They get both with their current model, so can’t see why they would change it. I mean, I’d prefer if they released everything on PC at launch too but can also understand why it’s in their interest not to.
What Callous said. Sony is doing well with keeping their games exclusive to the PlayStation for a couple of years before doing the PC ports so there’s no incentive for them to do day-one releases.
No incentives except missing out on and/or dealing with:
Release hype
FOMO
Competition from new games during PC release
Streamers advertise for free
Those who’ll never buy a console but will gladly spend $60+ day one
I could go on but you see the point. They’re leaving IMMENSE money on the table with an outdated mindset.
Preach it brother ….. I’ve been saying that for the last 4-5 years ….. Another thing that needs to change is the ridiculously long 7 year development cycle for consoles in an age where everything else is on a 2 year development cycle (CPUs, GPUs, smart phones, TVs, monitors, etc.)
Can’t say I am really interested in Sony exclusives.
Nintendo makes the great exclusives, not Sony.
Playstation and Xbox console marketshare is tiny compared to Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo , the cry babies fan boys toys company that made recycling the IP’s into an art , many parents and grand parents still viewing this company as “Kids Friendly” and will put a Switch (piece of garbage) under the Christmas tree, that’s why the selling figures are that high , not because they make “good” games , not AT ALL , aside from Zelda (kind of) , all the other games are recycled ones from past IP’s , boring , childish , out of date , at least Microsoft or Sony take risks , and the fanboys of Nintendo are the worst out there , they praised their beloved Nintendo for selling them f*king cardboard and calling it a genius move and innovative ! F*K NINTENDO , AND MOST OF ALL , F*K NINTENDO FANBOYZ !
Hold The Fuq Up & Stop The Press. How come no one is calling out this clearly lying nonsense?..
“I often have the opportunity to ask game fans for their opinions, and when I ask them about the time lag, they say that selling the PC version two or three years after the release of the PS version is accepted favorably.”
What “fans” would agree to this rubbish. These people be lying and making up stories. Who would say something like this and further their chances to play a game, especially “A FAN”. That man is full of BS. Who on their right mind would agree to play a game 3 years later than everyone else. What a load of crap. But I never understand the people who also begs for Sony games, as if they are any better than any other hand released on the PC platform. PS3 era maybe, but after that is all crap.
Most Sony Fanbois don’t want any Play Station exclusives coming out on PC because then they no longer feel “special”
Yep, we live in a world of snowflakes
So basically what they have been doing
Lets be honest the reason Sony don’t simultaneously release games on other platforms like PC is primarily because they can’t support a multitude of hardware configurations and are probably aware that the majority of pirated software happens on PC. If it wasn’t for this I couldn’t understand exclusives as its just limiting their sales market.
I’m ok with this.
They should use that time to either contract a company that can do better ports. Or invest in training their current guys to do it.
Just give me Horizon Forbidden West and Last of Us 2. Side note… I don’t care how about many years it takes to come to pc. But the absurd full price when it does is a harder sell for how much older the game is. Their games need to be at least $20 cheaper
Spiderman is the cringiest superhero amerilards have ever created. super lame
batman is the only superhero who’s not cringe. they accidentally created a brutally unique and convincing noir universe with all its bells and whistles like atmosphere, detective stuff, crime, brutality etc.
2-3 years ? are you high?
who did they ask? hardline PS fanboys that don’t want to see games on PC at all?
plenty of companies manage to release games on PC and consoles at the same time, and not just one console, both current-gen consoles
Sure, we’ve seen a lot of sh*t optimizations but those games weren’t exactly stellar on consoles either
But games like Resident evil 4, Elden Ring, Atomic Heart, Dead Island 2 – and so many more
release on many platforms and work fine
But Sony can’t accomplish releasing a PC port in a year or less?
Just to appease some loud minority of fanboys?
That’s just sad and honestly at that point keep your games.
This is why I don’t want Sony blocking any Microsoft studio acquisitions, when Sony gets their way its never good for anyone except Sony
All I need is Gran Turismo, they can keep the rest of the walking simulators.
