Resident Evil 2 Remake new feature 2

Resident Evil 2 Remake, RE3Remake & Resident Evil 7 no longer have Ray Tracing on PC

Yesterday, Capcom update the PC versions of Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 3 Remake and Resident Evil 7. However, it appears that the Japanese team has messed things up, as these three games no longer support Ray Tracing on PC.

From what we know so far, these patches were meant to remove DX11 from these games. Or at least that was Capcom’s intention based on its latest PC statement.

For those unaware, Capcom stated that it will be sunsetting the DX11 versions of RE2Remake, RE3Remake and Resident Evil 7. Thus, from July 2023, these games will be solely running on DX12.

So, it makes us wonder what the hell went wrong here. For starters, we are in April and not in July. As such, these three games should be still supporting DX11. Not only that, but DX12, obviously, supports Ray Tracing, so why are those settings no longer present?

To be honest, this feels like a bug. Still, it’s funny how it happened in all three RE games. Either way, we’ve decided to publish this article in order to raise awareness. So, let’s hope that Capcom will resolve this sooner than later.

Stay tuned for more!

  1. Personally, I’m glad to hear the new versions will be the only versions going forward.

Hopefully mods will all start using the new versions as the baseline from now on, instead of this fragmented mod base these games have today, where people keep hanging on to non-RT mods.

    1. I’d be okay with it if the DX12 version was objectively better, but it runs a lot worse than the DX11 versions, even without RT. Or at least it did when they first added DX12.

      1. Yup, when i run around the main hall i get massive random fps drops, makes no sense, one minute a room you walk into is butter smooth high fps (iv locked it to 120fps) then next time you walk into the exact same room, so nothings different but now huge fps drops as soon as you burst through the doors, and im not even greedy with the texture setting, only using high 2gb to keep it under 8gb vram, tried even lower settings but same issues, for me dx11 is best atm, im only talking from my own experience

  2. I hope this wasnt a mistake. Or just stores separate the versions. It’s all about choices. Because the understand how the 5-8 people that using RT would feel going forwardedm so they should keep both version and give people options. Don’t wanna leave those 5-8 people out of what they purchased. ?

    1. They should’ve made DX11/12 as separate option in the menu. But I guess that meant porting the updates they brought with DX12 back to DX11 and that meant too much work. So they chose not to

  3. Remove Raytracing…Good! Only DX12 ….That’s a bummer. I love DX11. Majority of DX12 titles runs worse except forza series.

      1. Stop lying, DX12 is still worse. Not only do you get more stutter but the game seems to only perform well on the most recent generation of cards.
Im honestly convinced at this point comments spamming for DX12 are bots. Practically every god damn game out there that has it is a stutter fest.

  4. Removing Direct 11 support means low end pc won’t able to play this game in 60-30fps , it would become unplayable

      1. Yeah, but from my experience with resident evil 7 which run in 60fps and Resident evil 2 which run in 30fps I’m sure those update will ruin the performance

        1. That’s an assumption. That’s not correct in actual testing. But my experience is currently limited to RE7 DX11 vs DX12, so …

    1. Not everyone is foolish enough to fall for the gimmick known as ray tracing. Ray Tracing is legit garbage & adds nothing of value to video games. You do realize that if developers actually took the time, games that do not support ray tracing would look identical to games that do support ray tracing right? Not only that but they would perform way better.

      1. Screen Space reflections suck a$s nuggets, that at least needs Ray Tracing to look good. Shadows and lighting can be decently faked with rasterization though.

      2. No they wouldn’t, rasterization is full of artifacts, especially in dynamic scenes, and just can’t compete. Just look at Digital Foundry’s video on Cyberpunk’s Overdrive implementation for proof.

    2. there are people like me who will never touch a bought game. not anymore. last game i bought was deus ex in 99. kek.

  5. If they remove dx11 they damn sure need to code dx12 properly, not many who seem to be able to do so – Way too many crappy dx12 implementations that have poor performance due to lack of skill/time.

And no… dx12 isn’t all about raytracing that some seems to think, perhaps the dev had to have access to some other feature moving forward….

      1. You can say that all you want, does not make it true. DX11 almost always outperforms DX12 in 99% of games.

  6. Why are they still using DX11? for older PC and windows version? DX12 is way better, and Vulkan is the best as it support Linux

    1. DX12 was performing poorly in RE2R and RE3R at launch vs DX11. That has since been fixed by more game patches and probably drivers. Some mods were also made incompatible with the new DX12 versions initially.

Now, I’ll agree, there’s no reason to play the DX11 builds, when the DX12 are just better. RT, AMD CACAO, better reflections, FSR 1.0 natively, possibility to use the RE Framework mod for FSR2/DLSS.

      1. Only because most old developers who don’t want to learn something new fail to program DX12 correctly

If programmed correctly DX12 will always win because it has better multithreading, better memory management and a much better shader pipeline …. But it doesn’t hold your hand like DX11 does

DX11 is for the lazy …. DX12 and Vulkan need more skilled ambitious programmers

      2. you really psis off many people cause you’re that kind of idiot. @everyone, he does this regularly, his mom was drinking when she had this one.

    2. If a game was made for DX11 then DX12 runs usually worse, and in the case of Witcher 3 which uses a wrapper, significantly worse.

  7. By removing raytracing, nothing of value was lost, and people unaware they had it on got a giant FPS bump.

    Good job Capcom.

  8. All of Capcoms focus is really on Street Fighter 6 right now. Don’t expect anything major with these RE titles unless it was a mess up on their end with steam.

  9. Hey John, for someone who claims he’s free speech, your s**t discord server is pretty much anti-free speech pro-zigger pro-terrorist pro-communist safe space for retarded loser alt-right fa**ts.

Kick all zigger trumpist c***s from there, hypocrite.

      1. Don’t bother with him, he has become a ridiculous meme on a bunch of gaming sites’ comments sections.

    1. Looks like someone can’t figure what free speech means. If you read something that you don’t like and still got hurt, the problem is you. Don’t let internet people rule over you that easily.

  10. Hey John, for someone who claims he’s free speech, your s**t discord server is pretty much anti-free speech pro-zigger pro-terrorist pro-communist safe space for retarded loser alt-right fa**ts.

Kick all zigger trumpist c***s from there, hypocrite.

  11. How THE HELL are you gonna remove DX11 support instead of making it optional like literally any game developer , you basically screwed people with low end PC’s in these tough times , DX12 has a lot of issues with overheating / excessive use of VRAM / memory leaks and worst of it all worse performance than DX11 by 200% and its not friendly for older GPU’s , Capcom is run by a bunch of capitalistic mofos who have no empathy for people who live in 3rd world countries with bad PC’s

  12. What they mean by not supporting DX11 is that there will be two version. DX12 as default, DX11 as a beta version in Steam. Stop crying

    1. yup Dx11 version is still downloadable and playable through beta branch, don’t know why every1 here is crying, i myself use dx11 version becuase of many great mods

  13. Unless Cyberpunk’s Overdrive path-tracing mode made them reassess things or some other big leap in ray-tracing is just around the corner and they weren’t satisfied with what they had, dropping RT seems odd.

  14. The OG DX11 releases ran better, the RT looked like sh*t (especially the reflections)

and like all Crapcom updates to PC games they introduce new bugs that
    they never fix.
Last I checked the TAA in RE8 and MH is still broken
in the PC versions and there are many long abandoned PC ports saddled
with GFWL. (Not that removing it would fix anything mind you as RE5
showcases how they broke some things and added new bugs that didn’t
exist in the original. At least they didn’t remove the OG game branch
    for that game…yet.)

  15. Lots of amazing mods were only compatible with Dx 11 version, seriously F*** you crapcom, why you removed Dx11 version from Beta branch
