System Shock Remake new feature

System Shock Remake gets a brand new demo for Steam Next Fest

Nightdive Studios and Prime Matter have released a brand new demo for System Shock today, which gives fans a whole new look at the exciting title coming in March.

The first thing fans will notice is a brand-new introduction sequence for the game; this sets the mood and stage for what’s to come once they arrive at Citadel Station. Additionally, the demo offers a glimpse as to what life was like as a denizen of 2072 New Atlanta.

As they explore Citadel, fans will discover that the halls of the Medical level are now littered with debris and clutter, alongside a few new enemies eager to make their acquaintance. Existing enemies from the original demo are smarter and sound better than ever now thanks to an overhaul of AI and audio systems. Old-school shooters will also notice that enemies are particularly juicy thanks to new dismemberment tech.

There are also some new machines across the level: Vending Machines to satiate the thirstiest of Hackers, Recycling Stations to earn some extra cred, Transdermal Dispensers for those who need a pick-me-up, and a mysterious Mod-Kit station. The new demo additionally adds improved controller support.

As said, Prime Matter will release System Shock Remake in March 2023. You can also download this new demo from here.

Have fun!

  1. The original System Shock was a heck of a lot of fun back in the day. I recall playing it back in the late 90s. It’s looking like this Remake will be fun as well. I’m not going to pay $40 for it though. I know that’s not a lot for a remake but I prefer to buy my games after they are patched and polished and on a great Steam sale for $15.

  2. Hope it will get somewhere and end up good. That said will most likely wait for a bunch of patches unless it shockingly would end up well polished on day one – Unlike 95% of todays games… yet morrons keep want to have more of that and keeps per-ordering everything just to end up disapointed.

Fool me once – Shame on you… fool me twice – Shame on me!

  3. I really like the menu interface, but they really need to add a hotkey for vaporize and move items.
Drag and drop becomes a chore after a while in these cases.

  4. It’s too colorful, contrasty and bloomy for a retro inspired game… I hope you have the option to turn that down.

  5. Thanks, I found the youtube comparison video. Interesting.

Both engines have their positives, but it’s hard to get a direct comparison because they added a bunch more details in the Unreal version that are missing from the Unity version.

  6. I’ve played that new demo and it is great.
There is a new intro, some new mechanics and you can now play cyberspace which is like the old Descent.
The only bad thing are gigantic UI and broken and missing key bindings for some functions.
