While he is a die-hard PC gamer, his gaming roots can be found on consoles. John loved – and still does – the 16-bit consoles, and considers SNES to be one of the best consoles. Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2. Let’s be honest it’s the exact same thing with old one and on top of that this garbage is way too woke.
Unless they make it F2P on day 1 or launch straight into Game Pass, this is probably going to flop hard. Nobody cares about Overwatch these days. The woke Twitter/Tumblr audience that they tried to court over the last 2-3 years (i.e. by turning every second character gay in the lore) largely won’t show up because they were fake gamers to be begin with. What little of the wokies did come out to support OW might not show up since they Blizzard was outed as den of male feminist rxpists.
OW only continues to have some relevance thanks to authors who put the characters into pr0n.
f2p is a way more hard field to compete at.
1. Anticheats are almost non-existent, especially for Microsoft and Activision. Without price barrier, a game will die if filled with cheaters (which happens more frequently).
2. Successful f2p games are only Valorant, Warzone and Fortnite. There are thousands f2p games that died out there. It is a very hard field to compete at. Free games gather trolls, cheaters and smurfs who just create another account after the ban.
3. Pricing model of f2p games is trash. Most people end up spending a lot more in battle passes and aggressive skin marketing. Which, unless the game is a top hit (like fortnite), will not make the company rich.
4. That is why many companies choose p2p models. It is more secure and provides a healthier community in general, which results in fair amount of players in their games (escape from tarkov, overwatch and many more).
Heck, even Valve decided to make p2p the cs go in ranked mode. Which is what the community asked for. The community wanted paid model. They were fleeing from the game due to the trolls and the cheaters.
Jesus the way he tries to act like Jeff is hillarious. His inflections are all off and the idiotic pandering with the Blizzard rainbow is just too much. Everything is a parody now.
I played a lot of overwatch when it came out, but I lost interest whenever they started to market the overwatch league. Esports that come organically always stay more relevant in my view. They should just make Overwatch more of fun experience instead of a Esport. Since for team based shooters CS will probably be king for years to come.
I liked the PvE content they had in Overwatch, but it seems there is no momentum for Blizzard anymore. People simply don’t care about OW2 and Diablo 4 anymore.
I stopped playing overwatch because of how bad and downright toxic the community was getting. Mass reporting people to have their blizzard accounts banned because they didn’t play as a character they didn’t like or wasn’t in the “meta”, the developers banning people based on out of game activity and out of context and heavily edited recordings of private conversations and a bunch of other stuff.
Also lest we forget that while it wasn’t the first OW did popularise the lootboxe craze.
